N4G Design Contest - Help redesign N4G.com (re-post)

When we launch the next site update this fall, we hope to also make some visual improvements to the the site. Since N4G is a user driven site we thought it would be a good idea to give all of you a chance to help decide how the new N4G will look. We want to keep this contest as open as possible as at this stage we are only looking for design ideas. You can do something which captures the look and feel of the current N4G design, or you can try and go for a new look, it is up to you. To participate you will need to open an account with 99Designs.com.

The winner will get $1000 and the chance to do further design work on N4G. Good luck!

The $1000 prize is for the best design mockup, not for a whole redesign of N4G. The new N4G might look very different from the winning design, as the purpose of this contest is to help us get ideas for the new design.

Here's one very small feature that I would like to see. When you reply to a comment the box should flick down under the original comment so you can view when replying without scrolling up and down.

Variable width please. I hate having 1680 x 1050 resolution widescreen and this takes up the middle third at best.

Also, some consolidation can be done with the menu items. Tighten it up a bit.

In the full user menu, there are 23 links. That's a bit much if you ask me.

I agree with the more common sentiment regarding the removal of the agree / disagree buttons.

They serve no function other than to allow fanboys with multiple accounts to show how much they hate someone lol.

I also suggest some sort of an activity meter, not just the list of activities. A bar is easier to read.

Lastly, a visual indicator of progress towards next CRank and bubble level would be appreciated.

6 - some ideas for the site

1- white color or black color choice :
a lot of people they like the black color in website

2- Rate the news\article : there some article that its truly over 1000 heat but its really not worth to see ..probably some times its will be great to see top articles by rating

3-the images section is not a good place in article it can be missed so i hope it will be under the article when the images being add

i'm not good at photoshop or design styles but this what i think it will be great if these ideas become true
