It's on bra

Ever dreamed of becoming an actual playable character in South Park’s quiet, snowy mountain town?

Well the developers over at Obsidian Entertainment and publishers at Ubisoft have made your dreams a hilariously fun and maniacal reality with this South Park Stick of Truth game.

The Story

South Park Stick of Truth is a parody of the Lord of the Rings but with a twist, humans vs. elves, and the game resides around protecting “the stick”, which holds special powers. But of course; it’s all just a bit of playground fun to pass the time in this Colorado town.

You start as the “New Kid” in town and we all know in South Park that the newcomer doesn’t get an easy ride, but after helping Butters against one of the pesky elves, you are introduced to Cartman, who takes you under his wing and nicknames you ‘Douchebag’, which is the beginning on a long line of insults and just about as nice as it gets.

You guys (humans) currently hold the powerful stick, protecting it from the possession of the elves, who eventually steal it and yeah – sh*t is about to go down bra!

Create Your Character

At the beginning of the game, you’re given the ability to create your own South Park character to represent you.

You can make him/her a true likeness or go wild and make an alter ego of yourself. Whatever you decide to do, it’s a whole lot of fun and throughout the game you will acquire more pieces of elaborate clothing and weapons, which you can either purchase or gain by completing quests. But guys, just go easy on the eye liner yeah.

Choose Your Class

Cartman prompts you to choose your archetype, and in true old-fashioned South Park style, three of them are pretty normal – Fighter, Mage (Magician) and thief but the fourth is Jew class, as to not rain on Cartman’s parade I did not choose Jew.

Each class carries special battle abilities, there is no right or wrong choice here but seriously, Cartman hates Jews so maybe steer clear unless you want to p*ss him off!

Fight Scenes

From fighting elves to fighting Nazi zombie rats, Kardashian’s fetus and Aliens. Lastly, and my personal favourite, is venturing into Mr. Slave through a certain passage to fight your way through and save South Park.

Fighting is a main part of the game, from random encounters on the street to building your character up by gaining XP and new weapons to handle the big boss battles, it is key to know how to time your blocks and use the right attack methods.

It doesn’t take long to master the controls and the different consumables that will help you defeat your enemies, from learning special fart moves to swapping characters like Cartman to using his special swearing turrets battle showdown, it is a lot of laughs.

The (Facebook) Inventory Page

Opening up the inventory page allows you to select from a range of options. Here are a few of the key one’s you will use the most -

Home – This will be your main page and will show you a list of messages from the characters you have befriended during the course of the game. But beware of Al Gore, he is a total spammer, I’m super… super… cereal!

Inventory – Is where you can view and change all of your costumes, weapons and appearances. You can go all out and make your character look like a fashion disaster. I chose the ‘Conan the Barbarian’ look, with a dildo as a weapon.

Abilities – You have 5 abilities, 20 perks and 4 magical fart powers, which you are taught how to use by different fart experts in the game, and use them wisely you must, but don’t ever fart on anyone’s balls – that’s just not cool.

Quests – These are your main objectives that you must complete to progress in the game, and they range from ‘finding 6 Kindergarteners’ to ‘helping Mr Hanky find his children’.

For those of you who don’t know, Mr. Hanky is the Christmas Poo and lives in the sewers underneath South Park. And if you think that’s weird then just wait until you meet Mr. Slave.

The Map – Pretty self-explanatory but the map is an overview of South Park and towards the north, Canada, yes you visit Canada.

To save you walking from one side of the town to the other you can fast track by using the flag posts scattered around.

Overview

I love the game; it is like being in your own episode of South Park and is a lot of fun and laughs.

My only gripe I would say is that the fight scenes can become a bit repetitive after a while, although being able to switch characters during the fight allows you to experience different abilities and makes it more fun.

I did find myself running away from the unnecessary fights in the street as to avoid wasting time and consumables like power and health to proceed with the storyline.

All the lovable characters from South Park make an appearance in the game, from Mr Garrison to the late Chef, and expect random joke scenes to pop in now and then. This leads me to my next point, the cut scenes for Europe…

Some of the scenes had to be cut for European use and with many games doing much worse across the board I found it unnecessary, and so I did what possibly 99% of people did when playing the game and went onto the internet to find what exactly had been cut (although the text that Randy Marsh was getting an anal probe is kind of self-explanatory) here is what us gamers in Europe saw –

Europe
You don’t have to be a South Park fan like me to enjoy the game, but if you haven’t seen any of the 17 seasons then I recommend checking out the following few episodes, which relate to the jokes dished out in the game. And they are:

Season 6 - The Return of the Fellowship of the Ring to the Two Towers

Season 8 – Good Times with Weapons

Season 10 – ManBearPig

Season 1 – Cartman Gets an Anal Probe

I agree with all except "too many fights".
The game was pretty short, take away some fights and its even shorter. Besides most RPGs are packed with battle scenes.
I do think they could have improved the battles a little to make them a bit deeper, I mastered them very quickly.

We are going to see a lot of crap South Park products since they sold out to paramount years ago. It's their IP they can sell out, of course; it just means the quality of their show has tanked and other products as well. Nevertheless, they put on excellent musicals, but those haven't been sold to a mega corporation.

They said awhile ago that Ubisoft holds contract rights to the main flagship South Park games. So like stick, fractured and phone destroyer.

Snow Day was handled by THQ and Question and is a random spinoff. Hopefully Ubisoft is cooking something.

That's one reason to be hopeful, but Ubi is trending down too.

Loved the RPGs but never played the others. Have to track them down. Still not sure about Snow Day though.

The 7 Best South Park Games

The South Park series has somehow managed to stay relevant for over 25 years, but which are the best games based on the TV show?

cammers1995132d ago (Edited 132d ago )

The only two worth playing are Stick of truth and fractured but whole. The rest were garbage except snow day which I can't say anything about yet. But with that said, unlike stick and fractured which debuted as AAA full priced titles by ubisoft, snow day is a new developer and publisher and has a budget price at only $30 soooo

The 10 Weirdest Video Games You Can Play Today

From Xfire: "Anyone who's played video games for a couple of years has stuck around long enough to stumble across a few weird ones. Some are even quite popular, which is all the more reason why you'll wonder what made the developers think about making such a game and why people are loving it, despite its weirdness anyway. Not all weird video games are head-scratches. Some are actually quite good."

The stick of truth is a must have for any South Park fans. I spent a good afternoon on Goat simulator, a rare real open world. I planned to try hatoful boyfriend since it was free on Ps Plus. Disco Elysium is on my radar since the final cut came out; as soon as there is a discount, i will take it. Like movies, i like weird games too :)
