Opinion: We Run the Risk of Visual Stagnation
21d ago ... So far, the most we've seen from next generation graphics is primarily from Sony's Playstation 4 reveal event. We've seen the machine supposedly running game engines that look pretty close to CGI visuals that you would sometimes see in an animated movie. Technologically speaking, it's pretty cool. It certainly has many Sony fans excited, with many wondering where that leaves the upcoming new Xb...Why Sony's indie initiative means big things for the future
48d ago ... I don't know about you, but I got pretty geeked out after GDC this year. Why? I'm excited about all the games coming to my Vita. Now, I've been happy with the system so far. I bought it only a few months ago, since it's my policy to wait a year or so before buying a system. It helps avoid the "1st year lull" that is all too common with many videogame systems. But after seeing the games Sony has...MS's silence on the NextBox is a good thing...
52d ago ... Sony, Sony, Sony. I really do like Sony, and they've been the talk of the town lately. They hit a home run with their Playstation 4 reveal that was just a few weeks ago, and now at GDC they've been picking up even more positive press in regards to their absolutely aggressive upcoming plan to bring more and more indie developers into the fold. Not only did they announce a ton of upcoming games f...Farewell, "Good For a Wii Game"
176d ago ... When you consider a game, how do you judge it? Maybe you start by considering the genre and whether that fits your tastes? Maybe you consider the value behind the title and its offerings? Perhaps you account for visual flair? But have you ever asked "Is it good considering the platform?" Something that I found all too common in the way Wii games were judged in reviews and otherwise was...So you want to be an indie dev?
200d ago ... People often ask me what it takes be a successful indie games developer. Ok, so that is a blatant lie. I don’t think anyone has ever asked me this—most likely because I am not a successful indie games developer. Well not yet anyway. Regardless, I know there are many people out there who are pondering this daunting question. Having now published a few games of my own, I feel I’m at least somewha...The other Super Smashing game Sony published
384d ago ... I'm going to start this blog pure and simple; 'Playstation Allstar Battle Royale' is a blatant clone of Super Smash Brothers. Not such a bad thing...but, everyone's pretending that Sony haven't experimented with SSB style gameplay before. Actually they did and you can find this game on PSN, I'm talking 'Ragdoll Kung Fu; Fists of Plastic' and there's a pretty good time to be had with friends if...I had no faith in Kickstarter. Now, perhaps I do.
409d ago ... The so-called "Kickstarter Revolution" that is just now being talked about in gaming circles was no revolution for me. I've been an avid boardgamer for nearly 5 years, and Kickstarter has long been a method for indie boardgame designers to put their design on the market. Problem is, most of those games end up sucking. I've seen Kickstarter used for a wide variety of projects, games being one...Working with Pirates
604d ago ... Piracy debate has been around for ages. Last week an Indie company made the headlines on a gaming websites because they chose a different type of advertising for their game. A special build of the game was released on a torrent site for free. Before the morale debate starts I would like to state that I downloaded games illegally before(like most of you) and to some point I understand why...New Title from Fire Hose Games: Go Home Dinosaurs! Playable at PAX
634d ago ... Feisty indie developer Fire Hose Games will be introducing their brand new title, Go Home Dinosaurs!, at PAX this coming weekend. Described as a fun, new take on tower defense players will piece together weapons shaped as puzzle pieces - all powered by tiny mammals - in an effort to defend against the invading menace: dinosaurs. Tower defense, gophers with lasers, dinosaurs and meteor shower...Skulls of the Shogun Hands-On (E3)
702d ago ... Another gem from the IndieCade booth, Skulls of the Shogun was one of the best games on the E3 floor. Described as an action-arcade strategy game that takes only the best parts of Advance Wars and Final Fantasy Tactics and mixes them in an arcade blender, Skulls of the Shogun is a turn-based RTS game. Get all that? There's more. Battling across the seasons with up to four player multiplayer, ea...Desktop Dungeons Preview (E3)
703d ago ... Already an IGF winning title, many of you may not need me to tell you that there's an unassuming dungeon game you should be playing - Desktop Dungeons. Gracing the IndieCade booth, the title with roguelike roots from Cape Town developers Quarter Circle Forward (QCF) is available in Alpha build now for PC and Mac - but I got a glimpse of the future. Best described as an attractive, 2D, bite-s...This St. Paddy's Day Throw one Back with Slam Bolt Scrappers
792d ago ... Slam Bolt Scrappers is one of those games that is just plain likable. While at a show like GDC I'm often asked for my favorite game, a question that's usually difficult to answer. There are games that show potential, games that intrigue, games that are striking but we never get to try hands on - and then there are games that you walk half a mile away from the convention for so that you can meet...I was right! NGP-PSP2
840d ago ... This is a blog purely showing off I was right on quite a lot of the points I made with my blog on the PSP2's supposed features. http://n4g.com/user/blogpost/raendom/516210 I said it could possibly include Android, I said it wouldn't use TEGRA, I said it would focus on the hardcore market, I said it'd have console-esque power, I said they'd be going with their own Android-Store; I pretty m...Corporate Capcom Conundrum!
850d ago ... *Disclaimer – You may find the following content to be bullshit. Disappointed? Yes. Surprised? No. That was my train of thought upon discovering that Capcom was blatantly plagiarising indie gem ‘Splosion Man. Released in 2009 exclusively for XBLA, the development company Twisted Pixel took their game to Capcom initially, but it was rejected. The similarities between the original title and Ca...Indie Game Spotlight: Mommy's Best Games
945d ago ... BLOG REVIEWS FORUM ABOUT CONTACT Indie Gamer Spotlight: Mommy’s Best Games October 15th, 2010 By: GHR Superman After spending some time at the Mommy’s Best Games booth at PAX East last march. We here at GamerHusbands Radio just can’t wait to see more. That’s why I have decide to make them the first indie game developer that I put in the spotlight in my new Spotlight series. Ch...For once, we're not the problem... YOU ARE.
995d ago ... All right, time for another opinion piece, and this one's a real hot topic of late. It's what I like to call the "war" on used games. First of all, are you kidding me? Used game sales are destroying the game industry? Really? You sure it's not greedy publishers snatching up developers, closing small indie companies, assimilating them into large groups, churning out so-so games, with hopes of cr...Dividing Video Games into Rating Groups
1076d ago ... Video Games aren't all the same, there are good ones and there are bad ones. Personally I decide video games into tree main categories : BAD, MEDIOCRE and GOOD and each of them could be subdivided into several groups. BAD Video Games: We can define two groups of games in this category: * Not A Game : As it is named, its a shame to consider these games as games. I don't think I've played s...Something is wrong with XBLIG
1077d ago ... Recently I've started looking up a few games on Xbox Live Indie Games. It's a much ignored part of XBLM, I find. There is admittedly a lot of awful, terrible games on XBLIG, in fact the amount of horribly designed games clearly outrank the good games in number. But hey, it's always the case with anything, there's some great games up there. Especially addictive twinstick shooters I own about...
