The Fight for Freedom Begins!
Introduction

Released on the 14th November across Europe, Treyarch introduced a new gritty and dark realization of second world war action. The new Call of Duty promises accurate simulation of horror warfare. This time it focuses on two campaigns, the Pacific War and the East European Wars. This has definitely proved that it is one of the ultimate First Person Shooters to be released on Wii.

Single Player

This gripping single player action begins in the Pacific islands as Americans secure each individual island along the vast oceans. After this mission you find yourself with a Russian sniper counterattacking the German forces in Eastern Europe. The campaigns alternate throughout the single player mode.

World War Two games have often been criticised for unrealistic gameplay, but this Call of Duty does not disappoint. A realistic one or two bullets is enough to kill someone unlike the drastic twenty or thirty in Medal of Honor.

Another feature added to this game that attracted much appraisal is the co-op feature, which allows a friend to fight beside you on single player mode.

The single player mode also supports the Wii Zapper. Although my personal opinion is against it. As you can see from the picture above, which is the start of the campaign mode, you are held prisoner and freed at the last minute by your comrades. A great story to a great game. Unfortunately there is no Zombie Mode, which many people feel unhappy about. It was cut out of the Wii version as were many things.

Multiplayer

This game is defined by it's multiplayer and surely without argument, this game has the best online capabilities since it's release for a Wii game. Of course, with this great motion, it also has it's downfalls. If we first look at playing online with your friends, you have to swap friend codes. We can't blame Treyarch for this matter, as most likely Nintendo sponsored these codes. Without a doubt, this game proves great online.

The glitches: Not many, but there are some which people can exploit to their benefit. Once found though, they are brought to their death easily. Nothing to be afraid of here. Inviting friends to play is the way that the online works, a message will pop-up in-game asking you if you want to join your friend's party. This is obviously annoying as you could be shooting someone and die, or be winning and accidently click "yes". Although, I could not think of another way around this problem.

There are only 4 modes to start off with, Team Deathmatch, Hardcore TDM, Free-For-All and Veteran Mode. A mere 4 compared to the xbox and ps3's vast online gameplay options. Also, vehicles were cut out of the Wii's version.

Gameplay:

Easily, the best on Wii. By comparing Call of Duty to it's direct competitors (eg MoH) then we can clearly see the greater of the two. This new Call of Duty will not be afraid to tell the truth, it provides accurate and realistic approaches in describing the horror of World War Two. It even comes with a setting which allows the player to turn down the amount of violence in-game.

The gameplay is gripping and offers the player a vast amount of weapons to choose from. The missions will keep you fighting until the end, and no mercy is shown from the enemy. Many times I will die from the enemy's grenades. This game is not a walk in the park, it requires skill and tactical approach, which to it's target audience is perfect. Even a handy flamethrower is put in, which allows you to burn anything or anyone in your way.

Graphics and Sound

I've been waiting to mention these as they are it's best attributes. Firstly, let's go over the sound in-game. Well, the surround sound gives you a great idea of the direction of the enemy and the landing of grenades. Not only does it have surround sound, but the voices of the enemy are heard, and the voices of your comrades stick near you. For example - You throw a sticky grenade onto the enemy, the enemy will shout "This things stuck to me!". This unique complex speech, adds to the game's exceptional graphics to make something you will never forget.

The graphics in this game are arguably the best on Wii. The detail in the grass and in the water is outstanding. The physics of the game in general are brilliant, if you shoot someone then blood will spray out to show a realistic reaction. These attributes definitely combine together and encourage the player's addiction.

Summary

By my standards, this game has proven to be one of the all time greats. I don't give out credit often, but Treyarch have outdone themselves this time. The graphics of this game throughout the campaign and the online play are exceptional and will not disappoint.

Another thing which makes this game stand out is the realism. We dont see this often enough in games, but it really does create a true and accurate effect, which leaves the player stunned. If there was one thing i could change, it would be the online lagg, but i can't blame Treyarch for this.

Great game, stuns the player throughout. Some bad points, but not enough to make the game annoying or irritating.
