Dragon's Lair does DSiWare next week

Digital Leisure is bringing Dirk the Daring to the DSiWare service next week, with the DSi becoming the umpteenth platform to receive a port of Don Bluth's classic laserdisc game Dragon's Lair.

It's hard to say how many platforms exactly the game has been ported to already, with some computer platforms receiving multiple versions of the game on multiple media types. The most recent release was for the iPhone, and now the Nintendo DSi gets its game on with a DSiWare version of the game, due out Monday the 22nd in North America and January 1st in Europe.

Zelda Characters Renamed For Europe

Usually, the translations of Zelda games remain fairly consistent between the US and European versions, but this time, it seems that some Spirit Tracks characters and towns have been given different names for the European release.

One example is that a character which the US version named Byrne has been given the name Staven in Europe. Curiously, for the Australian release the manual and official website name him as Staven, but in-game he is named Byrne just like the US release.

If you own a copy of the European version and spot any other naming differences, be sure to point them out so that other European gamers will be able to navigate US Spirit Tracks guides more easily.

The story is rich and detailed, with the back story told in a series of stills during the opening sequence describing how the demon king Malladus became imprisoned beneath the land of Hyrule, bound by shackles that criss-cross the land. As a young Link, you'll travel to Castle Town for graduation as Link completes his apprenticeship and becomes a fully qualified Rail Engineer. It is here that Princess Zelda explains that the railway lines covering the kingdom are in fact the magical bindings of Malladus' prison and she confides in Link that she suspects something may have gone horribly awry inside the Spirit Tower, which acts as a lock holding the prison shut.

Time for Zelda to Play a Better Role in the Legend of Zelda Series

Ever since it was revealed that Zelda would be playing an essential role in the recently released Spirit Tracks game for the Nintendo DS, fans of the series began to wonder just how integral her part in the story would be. Would she help out and be part of the action? Or would she resort to a Navi like character from The Ocarina of Time?

Many fans saw this as the answers to their prayers. "Finally," they said, "Zelda will actually be part of the game. After all, the series name is The Legend of Zelda but she had yet to play more then a basic role in any of the games and in many cases is absent from the games with hardly no mention at all. However, when The Spirit Tracks was released last Monday what we saw was not what many were hoping for. Yes Zelda played a much larger role then ever before, but it was still lacking in many ways. She was not a Navi-character, but she was also not the Zelda that many fans were hoping for.
