Halo on PS3, not 360 (Movie on Blu-ray)
111
There's a rumor going around that the Fox movie company has picked up the primary license rights to the Halo movie, a move which has made many people cheer since there were worries the movie would never see the light of day. If the rumor turns out to be correct though, it brings up an interesting point -- Fox is exclusive to Blu-ray and they'd be the ones publishing the title when it was released.

1.3 - Don't Count On It!!
With a release date somewhere in 2009/2010 you can bet by then even Sony will be selling movies on HD-DVD format. Where there is demand, Supply soon follows. Fox will turn sooner mark my words!
Check out Halo the movie:

Just think all those PS3 loving people seeing Halo on their beloved PS3. Then they feel the urge to play the MS exclusive game. Sounds kinda tricky on MS part. Hmmmmm.

From the moment they announced a Halo movie with Fox and Universal collaborating, I knew there would be problems. Fox is Blu-ray only and Universal is HD-DVD only. That would have screwed up the HD release of the film. Now with Universal out, situation is even weirder since if Fox makes it and releases it on Blu-ray, only PS3 owners can watch it. (Aside from Blu-ray player owners).
Off the topic, I still cant understand why they're hesitating about making Halo movie while other movies like Kane & Lynch and Gears Of War are going forward. They are great but Halo has such a large fanbase that studios should know it will sell.

Too bad fox said their not making a movie.
And are you kidding me? Halo movie on ps3 not 360. Wtf is that garbage. Since when did being on a format make one movie exclusive to a console. BOTH PLAY DVD's do they not? And besides even if all this were true the 360 does have the video marketplace for HD movies. More useless flamebait bullshit.

Well said, but effectively, there are people who want to watch it in HD. DVD's look like crap on my tv. I'd be getting the Halo movie on blu-ray. Doesn't bother me in the least bit though.

3.3 - Not sure
Even though xbox live has HD movies on the marketplace, that doesnt mean they can still get Halo if the rights are with fox, unless the shell out alot of cash and even then its going to be hard to put up there if the only HD version is in Blu ray format.
EDIT: I also forgot, what They could do is since xbox360 can upscale DVD's that would be better then nothing so, you can still watch it in High def and some way shape or form.

The Halo movie would never appear on BluRay before it was available on a format the 360 supported. This article is simply flamewar material nothing more.
EDIT: the article is also completely wrong when it states: "Also, Microsoft has come out previously and explicitly said that they will not be releasing a Blu-ray add-on for the 360, leaving Xbox 360 owners high and dry if they want to watch the HD treatment of their ambrosia."
MS has always said they were supporting HD-DVD but should the format war go the way of Blu-Ray they could add a Blu-Ray player if needed. HD-DVD is simply the format they chose to support w/ an add-on but they are in NO WAY bound to the HD-DVD format for the 360. All they need is DVD movies....so FOX would release it on DVD .....NOT Blu-Ray first if nothing else.

But Universal is not longer behind film and Fox has a Blu-ray only policy. And the rights for VHS,DVD and HD Format release of movies belong to publishing studio which in this cas is Fox. They also collaborate with Sony Pictures for special effects sometimes.

You assume the movie would be released on Blu-Ray. DVD is still the format of choice for movie consumers. And again...down the road who knows...but in the immediate future...this would not (Blu-Ray only) be the case for a Halo Movie.

You mean this quote from Microsoft: "We firmly stand behind the HD DVD format as the best choice for consumers. Current reports indicating that Microsoft has a back-up plan, which includes Blu-ray support are incorrect. We're fully committed to HD DVD and have absolutely no plans to support other optical formats."

5.4 - Simply put...
You are dead wrong. You confuse software rights with movie rights. If Fox purchases the movie rights, that will no doubt include the home video rights as well, especially since studios are getting rich off of DVD/HD sales (ever notice how soon movies nowadays are going to home video? That's not a coincidence).
With the home video rights, they can send the movie to home video in any format they damn well please, irregardless of whether it will piss off MS fanboys.
The only thing that could change that is if they specifically agree to release the movie on DVD only and not in an HD format (since Fox is not supporting HD-DVD), but don't hold your breath on that one. Movie studios aren't exactly lining up to be the one to distribute the Halo movie, and it is doubtful that they would ever get any major movie studio to agree to such a restriction.

Blockbuster is stocking Blu-Ray exclusively throughout their entire chain.
That means no HD DVD to rent (from blockbuster).

This is quite funny. Well, if they do make it and it goes through theaters and all that, I'm sure it will be out on an HD format for sure!
1. because most new movies, especially ones with a lot of CG, are coming out in HD
2. It's a game movie, it would be sad if the game is in HD and the movie isn't
I just hope the movie is good because I know movies based on games generally don't do so hot, I'm sure there are ton's of examples on many websites.
Anyways... I'd say that it's totally possible for Halo (the movie) to end up on Blu-Ray and DVD
This will be interesting... very interesting

lame even for an xbot! Listen guys most of use know blu ray will win.
When this movie gets made and released it will be blu ray only for HD
viewing! You will be used to it by then! 3-4 years from now! Cause everything you rent or buy HD will be blu ray!
Maybe MS does a blu ray player maybe not, but you will be able to buy a blu ray player for real cheap by then so why f'n worry!
And sure you will still be able to get it on DVD, unless somehow that disappears in 3-4 yrs.

What I don't get is where people ASSume that studio support is etched in stone. The movie is not due out until 2009 which means the media will not be out until 2010. NO ONE knows what is going to happen until then...for all we know the next consoles will be out and it will all be moot. These type of articles are nothing more than a mechanism for polarized a$$bags to spout off biased opinions and wave their pom poms for their coporations of choice.
