Fast forward to about 3 months ago - Sony began rebranding the PS3, introducing the new 120GB SKU, accompanied by new box art and a completely new logo. The launch of the born again PS3 has been largely successful so far, and that's largely due to Sony's new, aggressive and proactive stance on their marketing strategies.

Sony has gained new confidence with the PS3 slim and a constant stream of AAA games selling great. Next year is when it'll get really interesting. Both consoles have some major heavy hitters next year, both are priced the same, it'll be an epic fight which can only benefit us gamers as both try to outdo the other.

Halo Reach will be a sales monster and move lots a 360s. Sony has made a HUGE turn around, but I thk its too late. M$ will announce the their next system in 2011 and this gen will end.

I don't thk people understand what it would take for Sony to outsell the 360 this generation in NA. The PS3, for me, will remain MY gaming console of choice, but I don't see it taking over this generation.
Sony fanboys will begin to understand when the PS3 comes in 3rd place again this year in NA. U guys r free ta bookmark this if ud like and give me hell later if I'm wrong, but I doubt I am.

Not really since this gen wont end until 2014 at the earliest... unless the predictions about 2012 are true at which time no one will be about to care.

So will GT5, God of War3, MAG, and many other games coming out in just the first part of 2010. Not to mention what surprises await us the second half. Reach is a year away and a lot can happen in that time, however, most gamers who are into Halo already have a 360. Now if the 360 was still $100 cheaper for an Elete than it could have been a game changer, as things are now it won't move as many consoles as some people think it would.

Guess what... MS has stated that this gen will last 10 years so their next gen console wont be out until 2014-2015. Not to mention that NATAL is what they are launching next year instead of a gen 8 console. Unfortunately for MS, Sony is releasing the PSSphere this coming spring long before Natal hits the market. And since the PSSphere is similar to the Wiimote, more devs will are familiar with the technology and thus it will receive more support and more games.

That might be true for all consoles sold, but not for new console sales this year, this is already a fact. As to if your wrong or right, again why wait till later to give you hell... that would take out all of the fun of having a console war now wouldn't it. lol

Yeah deadreckoning is an on the fence fanboy, I think he has both consoles but every now and then he flame baits in articles and it is hard to tell which side he is on. But his comments throw fuel into the fire on both sides.

On topic, I love the new Sony marketing campaign. The commercials are funny and to the point about the features of the PS3. They need to stress PSN and how it is free tho, a lot of people pay for XBL because they don't know there is another way.

Once upon a time, people waited outside of stores for you in ridiculously long lines, huddled in tents and sleeping bags to pay an incredible premium for all that you offered when you were a plump, healthy infant.

Some people were accosted, others assaulted, and some even shot. The media pawned over you and crucified you all at the same time upon your debut, with the latter pouring on in incredible fashion across the interwebz - spawning flame wars that could power our star system for a millenia. You've won a format war, churned out AAA title after AAA title (even from launch) and even re-branded yourself within the same generation.

Yet since the PS3 launch in 2006/2007 it has outsold the XB360 and is the 3rd fastest selling console only behind PS2 and Wii.

Did you know you can get an XBOX for $100 at Walmart and on Amazon today? Talk about just giving the things away. It's a firesale, all must go! Yet, Nintendo and Sony know they don't need to lower their prices to near giveaways to get folks to buy them. Such a shame too, the 360 had potential, barely made it four years. Now it's just Halo halo halo from here on out to keep it hyped. Where's the Demon Soul's killer? Where's the GT5 killer? Oh Forza is already out? Could have fooled me as noone cares. Where's the God of War killer? Twisted Metal is also coming.. Trico anyone? Where's the Trico killer? Where's the Uncharted ONE killer (I won't even get into UC2)? Such a joke. So if Xbox 360 sells for 300 it's a ripoff. If they lower the price, it skips being a value and goes straight to being an act of desperation? Hmm. The Xbox 360 provides for its players exactly what it promises - a cohesive online community and some of the best online multiplayer games. Obviously, it's not the only console you need, because the PS3 has great exclusives. But PS3 also isn't the only console you need. Halo Reach hasn't even come out yet, and people are bashing it. Why? Should I bash the next Ratchet and Clank game? Or the next PS3 exclusive sequel? Why? Give the fans what they want. If the Xbox 360 only owners are happy with playing Halo, who are you to tell them they're wrong. The Xbox 360 has its problems, but it's not a worthless console.

I honestly did NOT mind the launch ads. I thought they were intriguing and I understood that they were trying to sell the PS3 as some alien hi-tech gizmo.

the problem was the average audience didn't care or were too busy playing Halo 3.

the PS3 ads today are great, clever, and funny. It's just too bad it took Sony so long to reach the masses.

I really liked their Universe of Entertainment commercial too.

I really don't think the ads were any sort of issue. The PS3 was bloody expensive, not worth the price for the weak library of games (ESPECIALLY compared to the 360+ Halo at the time).

Now the PS3 is affordable, it's got a great list of exclusives, and it's got a new attitude. It's a little too late though, as MS will continue to outpace them, and in all honesty even if Sony DOES outsell MS, they made poor profits this gen.

it'll take some time for Sony to overtake Microsoft in the US, but they pretty much have Europe and Japan wrapped up for second place. There are 3 key markets in this generation, and with 2 of the 3 in Sony's hands, Its safe to say that Sony is now the Second best-selling console this generation, but will take some time to eat at that lead that the Xbox has in North America.

By embracing their nostalgic past, Sony has finally broke through and has never been better. The PlayStation 3 has come a long way from the creative, but disturbing ads from 2006(Which I liked as well). Sony is now doing what many companies have overlooked: going back to their roots. They have changed their logo from the intimidating Spider-man font to a new, simpler typeface that is very reminiscent of the PS2 logo. The new commercials are a return to the humorous, straight forward approach that have not been seen since the PS one era. Other PS one era nods include the PS logo on a white background(a nod to the PS one ads) and the return of the "Play-Sta-tion" audio clip which has not been heard from since 2000. Even the aesthetics of the PS3 slim's matte surface brings an aura that the PS2 always had.

Sony is officially on a roll this Holiday 2009, and with one of the best lineups the PS3 has seen thus far, the timing for a new PS3 could never have been sooner.

Honestly a 10 year plan only works when you can build it cheap after its prime. A $300-launch console (PS2) that gets cut to $150 and only costs $75 to build during the prime of its life (3 years) versus a machine that still loses you money on every sale and after 3 years costs $300 (PS3).

PS3 has proven that doubling the cost of the console will NOT double its lifetime. And it's also proven that it's just not profitable, 4.7 billion lost by the PlayStation division since PS3's launch.

PS3 might be able to gain its stride next year, but its overall product performance this gen won't be the same as what PS2 did for Sony last gen.

Sony stepped up there marketing game BIG TIME, compared to that BS with the baby an dthe cube... and those aboslutely horrfic EU commercials, i like the PlayStation universe commercials too, but these new ones are funny, point out the ps3's strengths and are shown constaly during progams where commercial air times is crazy expensive. Football, Wrestling, TV specials etc etc. and its paying dividens for Sony so good on em. me personally im a early adopter and got my 60 GB and i loves it. It only does everything baby
