Gordon Van Dyke Touches On PS3/PC BFBC2 Beta Exclusivity

Torrence Davis of The Bitbag writes, "Yesterday when the news broke out about the PS3 beta, I got a lot of tweets, emails and spam asking why there was no 360 beta. My quick answer was, "Xbox Live is rock solid". Many took that as a jab at the PS3 version of the game. It wasn't meant to be. After coming to a point of thought where it may have been the way I responded yesterday that started all of this, I understand why people would get upset. What I should have said is this, "The 360 version of BFBC2 is rock solid on Xbox Live.""

I miss where he says PSN is crap? Or did someone just add an opinion to the subject? Is not the CODMW2 on the Xbox already going through issues of player's going outside the map? Yes, and the game is not even out yet. So yeah who needs a beta? All game formats do.

People whining are just a little bitter that they can't access it, when you think about it logicically and with a clear head the PC version needs at beta as it's the first time the frostbite engine has been tried on PC hardware simple logic.

The PS3 version of BC1 had invite and voice chat issues which it still has to this day DICE want to fix that and use real-world conditions to help pinpoint some of the issues so it's a better product for all come release again simple logic.

The 360 version is solid it is as simple as that i never experienced any issues during my many months of playing it (i own both next-gen consoles and have played BC1 on both).

Once people stop thinking like little kids throwing their dummy out of the pram and start seeing it from a programming/developer point of view , anyone with any knowledge of building programs etc using the likes of lowly basic ones such as HTML or VB up to makers game mods hopefully sees it like that.

I fail to see how that very few amount of people can stress a server ?

2nd i find it very odd they dont mention anything about this rock solid 360 thing. He cleary does not stae anything like that timing and logistic?? So im lost why is BFBC 1 on ps3 and 360 work the exact same with the exact same issues. I play to this day??

Im just lost i need a more detailed explanation something that matches what you said cuz none of this does.

I need to know where he says 360 is not a beta becasue they have no issues and no kinks that a stress test wont help.

Most company and games released now dont have any issues when thery have very small amounts of people playing on them kinda takes away from staggering people into a beta.

Please have a better write up and ask questions that are directly realted to the 360 is rock solid even though they still have in agme mic issues and etc. I agre that you did good by following up but your questiosn did not answer anything lol.

Again why run a beta at all?? if you throw a small # of people on and call it a success that is abot as backward as it gets most games have problem when more and more people stress a server and creating Ghost accounts dont even help this very much. So why scale betas by 1000's if it really doesnt matter. and why is the game have the same issue on a 2 year old game on both systems.

I need mor explanations and better asked question.

Please write him and say is the reas0n why ps3 only has the beta because we know that the 360 will not have any problems then ask hey why is there still problems on #1 that haven't been fixed since launch these are good questions

But i commend your follow up even if it was still all your wording and opnion with some questions that really didnt answer anything.

This is a bit aside from the main topic but it brings something up that really is becoming an issue. Alot of people now seem to not understand the difference between a demo and a beta. Demos are for you to experience a portion of the game usually helping you to decide if you should buy it or not. Beta's are for the developer to tweak the game and find/fix problems.

I dont think this issue is entirely coming from the gamers, as the last few years dev's, gamestop, and both Sony & Microsoft have been pushing beta's as a reward which really blur's the line in peoples minds.

I think this can bite them in the ass if their not careful as people see a beta as a demo and treat it as such. Meaning flaws, problems, etc might be thought to be reflective of the actual game and turn people off (regardless of disclaimers).

I dont have a fully formulated thought on this, just expressing what reading this made me think, any thoughts?

I dont care about beta as much as a demo to tie us over till the game hits in march. I tried BC beta and had huge lag issues due to being out of the real beta region coverage. As all the current footage has been shown from 360 version and the BC had no issues on 360, i'm sure they want to focus on ps3 version to have better online experience this time compared the original.

Looks like the inferior ps3 version is riddled with bugs and glitches and thus needs a beta, while the 360 version is rock solid, as stated by the developers themselves. PC version just needs a beta because its the frostbite engine's first time on a PC game, so that is understandable.
