After seeing what Activision and IW have been doing recently, I hope it does outsell MW2. Not that it really matters.

Either way, it will be a bad thing. If MW2 sells more, then it gives Activision all the more reason to sell the same game year after year. If NSMB Wii sell more, then it gives more reason for Nintendo to sell Mario for youngsters. Hopefully both won't sell at all.

That's the thing...MW2 will launch HUGE.

NSMB will sell more consistently for a longer period of time. I have no doubt it will end up selling more than COD. But it's probably going to take awhile to catch up.

I might be missing something since I haven't been keeping tabs on Modern Warfare 2 a ton, but what's up with that game? After reading your comment (and buckethead), it seems like people aren't rooting for it or something. I could be wrong, but I'm just confused a bit.

Infinity Ward (the developer of Modern Warfare 2) has alienated a lot of fans by choosing not to support dedicated servers for PC gamers, as well as the obvious price raise on the PC platform. They have also released a video endorsing a homosexual slur (the Fight Against Grenade Spamming one) and have numerously hated on other games in all different genres. They're just being all-around aholes to their supposed fan base.

The thing is that Reggie is making this prediction based on a few months of sales. I expect that Modern Warfare 2 will sell a lot initially, but will it have long legs like New Super Mario Bros. Wii?

I sure hope not. I have never been underwhelmed by a game as much as I was with NSMB Wii at E3. It was like taking Little Big Planet, stripping it of its good graphics, level creation, character editing and charm. It'll be fun, no doubt, but it isn't worth $50.

You haven't even played the game. Judging from the hands-on articles from many publications, it seems like it's worth the $50. NSMBWii might not have the user creation aspect of LBP, but Mario's still got its own charm, tight controls, awesome level designs, catchy music and nostalgic factor.

Also, I look down on "gamers" who "hope" games would bomb simply because it's not to their liking or feel "underwhelmed." Fanboyism FTW? Ah, no.

Hate to say but Reggie is to outspoken yea the Nintendo Wii get a boost in sales but it won't outsell Modern Warfare 2, Wii is a strong console it leaks better 3D graphics and High Definition quality visuals.

GTAIV was going to destroy the Wii talks and Mario Kart being released around the same time as GTAIV was stupid because GTAIV was going to destroy it..look was happened MK outsold GTAIV on both systems COMBINED! LOL.

It's a safe bet that Mario will outsell COD in the long run. I think that's a given.

But by the end of January? I don't think it will. MW2 will have a very big launch. I'm not sure NSMB can catch it in two months.

considering the huge install base... hell even a new wii sports title will outsell anything.. but all the real gamers know that it'll just be crap..

but hey, its not like wii owners have a choice do they? :P they're not getting MW2 or anything else hardcore for that matter till red steel and no more heroes 2.. sure there are a bunch of rail shooters but they suck compared to good'ol 360/ps3 games..

i just finished MW2 campaign.. and i don't think ANY game this year will be as good.. it just blows away the competition.. and comeon you've all seen nsmb videos.. just another mario game with coop..

i can mos def see that. MWII will explode on the scene and then slowly trickle off. NSMBW is going to be the go to gift for those buying their first wii or buying games as gifts for wii owners. hell, i'm getting a copy and i haven't played my wii in months! (actually, that is a lie. the wife and i found house of the dead: overkill for 20 bucks last month and i played about 30 minutes of that)

for how super mario started in the 80's and call of duty started in the late 90's, and considering how large nintendos wii fanbase is right now by some twist of fate, for marios fanbase being built that long, it would honestly be humiliating for wii and nintendo if the game didnt outsell modern warfare 2 even if its on one platform, especially now that the game isnt gonna get as much support from some of the owners of pc and ps3, nintendo may have screwed itself over saying this cause now we see that new super mario bros "should" outsell modern warfare 2

i didn't give 2 craps about this new mario game until i listened to ign's nintendo podcast the other day and they talked about the game for an hour or so. I didn't realize that it's a huge throwback to the 16-bit era mario. This is the kind of game i've been wanting for years, I'm pretty excited for it now. Comes out this month doesn't it?
