Not sure about that one. It's a bery sliding scale and even Asda(Walmart in the UK basically) say they often sell new games at a loss when they retail at around £30-35. and RRP is usually, what, £45? I dunno but it looks like it might be a fairly even cut for retailers and Sony and PD in general when the games sell near RRP.

With dearer and cheaper prices elsewhere IDK so just looked at UK figures. That said, as a musician I do know that sales aren't what makes me the most cash usually-at least not as a percentage of each CD/Download sold(unless it's at the labels or my sites). I remember, in the 80's you were lucky, as an artist to get 10% of the cost of a record as profit in your pocket with retailers clearing around 25% IIRC. I imagine, however, that with many retailers making more from preowned games the percentages are better towards the talent in the game industry.

2 - Sony is pure quality. Even those they don't get halo sales but they still show they want thier fans get the best.
Damn cheapass developer milking thier fans money with ripped off no improvement games.

3 - "and it will be worth every got d@mn penny."
i haven't pre-ordered yet but the money is already spent.

but GT5 poses some questions:

1.60 million for DLC?

2.60 million to make something like project gotham 4 multiplat?

or 3.60 million to make a game from the ground up to be the BEST it can BE?

i'd rather have number 3.it's not like sony used the same engine like valve or infinity ward or bungie.no,they threw the sh!t out and started over.

that's why sony deserves my money.i love this part though:

Have you played Forza Motorsport 3?

I was watching the guys at our company trying it out in the office. I tried it a little bit. It's very similar in a lot of aspects to Gran Turismo.(basically stating one begot the other) Some base components of the game are very different from Gran Turismo. It's a little bit different from what a simulator is(this part is funny as h#ll). You can feel it when you drive it.

lol!send it to me SCEA.i can't be waiting.

i wonder if this article is true that they have 400,000 polygons per car?the game is just insane to look at.can't wait to see the other lighting effects.

QUOTE:

What other features will GT5 have?

There will be 400,000 polygons per car, 100 times more than were present on GT4. GT4 had 4,000 polygons per car. You can customize and tune the cars, too.

INSANE....SO INSANE....

100, 000 more ?

rotfl , in game forza cars are at best 150k and they don't even have interior modeled from outside cam, it'll be like 150k vs 400k

menu cars in forza are super detailed thats sure, but in-race models aren't even near polycount of menu cars

10 - another showcase ps3 title!
I'm not exaggerating at all when I say I'm really overwhelmed with the quality of games out,and soon to be released titles on the Playstation 3! I play my brothers 360 every week, and my friends dual hd screen- liquid cooled gaming rig w/racing seat and wheel for his pc driving sims, but nothing impresses me more than prologue, and soon to be gran turismo 5! <edit> btw- not my Lotus Elise in my avatar :( my buds!

Big Lotus head myself-used to live right by the factory in Norfolk when I was younger and all the blokes used to drink in my mum and dads pub after work-and that was when they had a decent F1 team and testing was going on all the time. They used to come in and get messy if they'd done well at a GP in those days!

Anyway, I was going to my mates a month or so back when one of the really quick Exige SEs flew past me in the lanes. Went yound the bend in front at a hell of a lick and straight into the back of a tractor going about 10 miles an hour! IMO he was real lucky to live as the Exige was basically a half mangled engine and a pile of plastic at this point with him sat in the middle! So, we rang the dibble and I gave the guy a lift to the local A+E to get checked out(ambulance and ppolice would have taken way longer than we would) while the farmer stayed for the authorities. It's a real credit to Lotus and modern engineering that such a light and safety feature free car still sved this loon who, as it turned out, didn't have a scratch on him and was mildy shocked at worst.

Not as shocked, mind you, as he said his dad would be when he found out he's wrapped his trackday car! The lad was only about 18 and had been lusting after a drive of his dads pride and joy for an age he said and had only just taken it out when he crashed. Bless his silly hide.

Lovely car mind, I prefer the Lotus way of making up for the horsepower by anally shaving off the weight and making them handle better than pratically anything else I've ever tried in real life(and I've driven a lot of cool cars through my work in the past-was driving reporter at a local paper for a few years). It just shows it isn't all about power. In the same vein one of those Ariel Atoms flew past me the other day-like a turbo charged bedstead it was! I'd love a go in one of the faster mogels of them-they can even out accelerate most superbikes they say even in a straight line!

Anyhow, like everyone I'm really up for GT5 and after this wait I'm happy to have as long as it takes for them to get everything in AND make it perfect. I'll be upset if they don't manahe weather as I think it should be there in any sim wanting to be taken totally seriously by this generation-it makes too much difference to driving to be left out and living in the UK(and the lakes at that) I know all about what rain can do!

Prologue has definitely earned more than $60m in revenue with sales of 3.2 million. Not all of those sales were at $40 since you can pick it up new on disc for $25. But it probably had to earn at least $100m in revenue.

aaron5829 - 40 days 14 hours ago
12 - 60 million eh ?
I'd guess most of the budget goes to the team who travel around the world and gathering datas on cars, concept cars, tracks, equipment transportations and stuff like that...

Not bad if you ask.

It could have been more...

Damn it, i want this game so bad...

I've noticed that the supporters of "the competition" have been very quiet lately. There was a time when you could not enter a thread about GT without trolls saying how their racer was the "definitive" race game. Now all I hear are crickets.

Interesting.

Actually, I'm quite a fan of BOTH series but was put off F3 by T10 acting like arrogant tools so didn't get this one. Thing is I thought it reviewed really well, no?

If it did and it's a cool game I can't see why they wouldn't pipe up-have to say, though, that I wasn't blown away by the demo as it wsn't, or didn't feel like the huge step up from F2 I'd imagined it would be from all that sabre rattling that went on. Still, I do expect the game to be a lot better than the little you saw in the demo.

prolouge sold around 4 mil? 4 mil x $40 = 160 mil.

lets say sony get's half of that. so that's 80 mil. sony's still up 20 mil. (if that's how they split revenue up)

so basically GT5 will be profitable day one it goes on sale. good for sony i guess.

17 - Hell, the sales in Japan alone should more than make up for the cost.
Japanese will be snacking on this game like breakfast cereal on day one. I expect it to have a good period of long fluid sells. It will continue to sell decent way after the game is released as a PS3 favorites in the red box. $60mil, no problem.
