Activision cans Ghostbusters game

Activision Blizzard have held the anti-E3 by submitting their latest release schedule with no mention of forthcoming titles Ghostbusters, Brutal Legend, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, World at Conflict: Soviet Assault, 50 Cent Blood on the Sand, Zombie Wranglers, Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust, as well as several Xbox Live Arcade titles.

They have already reported that the will be scaling back operations across a handful of development studios, and this latest announcement leaves these titles in doubt.

A representative from Activision Blizzard has said "We are reviewing our options regarding those titles that we will not be publishing."

I am not seeing that the title is canceled. I see a lot of assumption and little info from Activision. I find it hard to believe a game like World at Conflict Soviet Assault is canceled. Especially since it is WORLD IN CONFLICT. If you can't get the title right then pardon me for questioning the veracity of your news.

Too bad about Swordfish Studios as they made the true spiritual successor to Goldeneye.

"Can" is too strong a term for this. This is, like Morganfell said, a lot of assumption. "Pushed back" is more likely what this will amount to, IMHO. I really hope Brutal Legend is still in the works somewhere. Ghostbusters sounded like a really fun rental. Was interested in seeing the next Riddick. As for the next LLL... the press will have a field day with that one no matter what so I was looking forward to that frukis.

i work for a certain company and ive been playing one of the games listed that many people are excited about but i can tell you we arent missing much if it does get canned. honestly i think activision is making a smart move by getting rid of some of these games. if you had a chance to actually play it many of you would change your mind.

not many really know the outcome of these games.. its pretty tight lid but hopefully ill know something pretty soon.

It as nothing to do with Infamous "I game I can't wait to play", and everything to to with Activion Blizzard being the new monster they are but Pototype seems safe.

I think that the poles are reversing. Activision is becoming the target of the gamers while EA is improving in terms of reputation in the eyes of the gamers.

I seriously doubt the validity of this though. The game is slated for a release this year. I seriously doubt Activision is stupid enough to throw the game away when it's quite close to completion. Activision is just saying their considering their options. Some of these games will probably get canned, but I bet it'll probably be ones early in development, and not ones that are close to being done.

Barely an hour ago, I was comparing EA's upcoming renaissance to Activision's rise to prominence regarding derivative titles.

I somewhat like the new EA. Activision has taken the throne.

However, I do doubt that a game as far along as this with the quality of the cast involved would just get dropped entirely.

Furthermore, there was news out there about Tim Schafer being unhappy with Activision and deciding to leave anyway. Yet another Double Fine creation is now in limbo indefinitely :/
