GameStop Cancels PS4 Ghost Edition of Destiny, But Makes It Right for the Customer

You act like these things are exact sciences, when they really aren't. GameStops distributor could tell GameStop they're getting them XYZ copies of the Ghost edition, which is how many they put up for preorder. Some time later the distributor could change the amount to a higher or lower sum or something along these lines happen and GameStop either opens more preorders (like we've seen with the Limited Edition as it's impossible to believe all the stock coming back is just cancelled preorders) or has to cut some people because their initial estimates were wrong. The only way to make it 100% accurate would be to keep preorders closed until GameStop has the literal stock, but lets be real here and accept that most of these things are not as rare or as in demand as the Ghost edition seems to be. Typically this stuff happens without anyone realizing it, since CEs are not known for being impossible to find.

I see that the author is trying to sell this as a make good, but was it ever confirmed that the DLC was cross-buy? I recall some people hinting at it, but I don't recall it ever being outright stated. If so, then I wouldn't be too thrilled with this compromise as I never really thought the items in the LE (much less the Ghost edition) were worth the price and only got the LE because I figured if I bought the DLC separately I would end up paying the same or at most save $10 versus getting the physical goodies. I suppose I could just trade in the PS3 copy, but without the case (meaning I lose the steel book) I'll either have to take a steep penalty, try to sell the disc alone on eBay or trade it into a place that doesn't care and hope it's enough to even out the cost of the season pass. But in the end I suppose this is better than nothing.

I feel sorry for those consumers, but i feel more sorry for those GameStop clerks who have to deal with those customers being angry.

They waited all this time to cancel preorders? That's gotta suck. Interesting though, that it seems the Ghost edition on PS4 is the one selling out everywhere, when PS3 has a much larger install base. The numbers ate gonna be crazy when it's all over with.

I actually had an issue where i would sell and rebuy games. I sold Bad Company 2, now that BF4 is such shit i wish i still had BC2. :(

I'm all digital too and I'd rather keep it than to sell it back for 5 or 10 bucks.. All I want to see is a little price reduction for day one digitalis.. If they don't do that or start giving better incentives then I will probably go back to buying discs and dealing with changing discs to play another game, yes I have gotten lazy in swapping discs and don't want to go back.. It's just so convenient...

Sorry Activision. I'm not rushing to eBay to pay a rediculous amount for your Ghost Edition. I remember when the Fortune Hunter Edition was mentioned and the only one's that got it were Naughty Dogs favorites and the ones they had to buy off. I don't want this one that bad. I'm am not trolling, you are just either too much of a fanboy or too stupid to understand. You pay a pre-order for a product and end up not getting the product you ordered. The company refuses to give your money back and instead tries to pass off something else that you didn't order, along with so called "free" bonuses. It is nothing more than a ploy so they do not have to refund you for not having what you ordered. It is illegal and morally wrong. But you go ahead and keep trying to justify it. Tool. That $30 is also only in-store credit, not the $70 cash you payed them for a product you ended up not getting.

What are you talking about? GameStop lets you cancel it up to 24 hours before the game releases, so people can still go in and get their money back or transfer it to other games.

GameStop simply hit a block that almost every other store hit. Yet instead of outright just canceling pre-orders like EVERY other store, they are giving you something to make up for it.....

They are giving you two copies of the game, and you still get everything you ordered. You could go flip the second game right away and basically get the game for free..... Or you could pre-order at Wal-mart and show up on launch day to receive a "Sorry, we ran out" note. As for plastic wrap it's a simple policy so they don't buy stolen copies of games.

I didn't know GS offers cash refunds when canceling pre orders. I have always been under the impression that everything is store credit only. Although i still do not understand how you are getting everything you ordered, unless there is a free digital upgrade offer for people who have the PS3 version of the game. The PS4 copy they are providing is just the basic version, not the ghost edition.

Retailers are getting too much blame for this.

Bungie and Activision have to step up and make more ghost editions plain and simple. its made out of plastic, its not a rare form of adamantium or something.

PS:Great for gamestop for stepping up in that big of a way, places like Walmart and Best Buy would have offered 10% off at best.

Bestbuy is giving people $50 gift cards for the ghost editions they canceled last month.But for anyone who rely wanted the GE. I think this is a better fix because they are giving you everything you wanted plus an extra copy of the game to do whatever you wish with.

They wanted to make them in very small quantities, so they are actually worth buying. Unlike other games that come out with LE or CE editions an years later you can find them on amazon or the top shelf of your local GameStop because they boxed millions of them. Not a collectors item when there is millions of them, that's just a cheap gimmick.

Glad they are having these problems, sucks for the folks buying it I'm not, just a regular version for me. But it adds to the lore of the game an overall hype. I can still purchase a LE edition of Skyrim on amazon, Lol how is it limited if I can still buy it 3 years later.
