Silent Hills to be a Project Morpheus exclusive?

Rumours and theories are starting to swirl around gamers excited for the Kojima/Del Toro mash-up Silent Hills. And not all of it is complete rubbish.

I don't think you have to worry about that because it's probably not coming to Project Morpheus and it's probably not even an exclusive.

Also, SCEWWS are already working on their own exclusive scary/suspense games. "The Deep" and "The Assembly" are two key games they are working on.

edit: "The Assembly" isn't first party, but they have been working on Project Morpheus since 2013.

It could mean interesting gameplay mechanics or mean nothing at all. It would be interesting to see this as a morpheus game but lets not get too excited just yet

Konami was such a drag. Every time they'd release the same kind of awesome Silent Hill game, with the same kind of great gameplay, in the same creepy foggy town... Yeah, it was just that kind of developer. But then one day, Konami goes and kills Silent Hill!
Konami couldn't even be original about the way they did it. I was complaining... Because the later games weren't good anymore, But guess what? SH will be coming back with Konami and it's bringing new monsters, horror and gameplay toys with it.

Although having a game like Silent Hills/P.T. in virtual reality is a fiendishly good idea, I don't think it will be a Morpheus exclusive. Exclusive to the PlayStation brand? Yes. Exclusive to Morpheus? No.

I'll enjoy the hell out of the game but I haven't actually been scared from a game or even horror movies since I was a very young child. Not much that scares me at all these days anymore, it may startle me or surprise me but that is about it.

Also kind of hard for me to be scared by something I am expecting to be scared by.

Do any of you honestly really get scared? I guess some people are still afraid of the dark but I never understood that either.

Have you played any such titles via VR, though? That is the point everyone is making. It is all-enveloping and in your face. I think even if you knew something is coming, the focus of detail and the overal visceral surroundings that VR offers is enough to drive people into fear.

I grew up watching scary movies and playing scary games. They have always been my favorite. I too thought nothing could really scare me.

I got pt right when I found out before the hype and didn't read or see anything about it. It honestly scared me. My stomach was so uneasy half way thru that I got physically ill. No bs it took me 2 days and eventually a walk through just to beat a freaking demo. So yes as a grown man I didn't sleep well that night. Or even the following nights.

U did bring up a good point tho. I had no expectations. If I would have seen or read anything about it I might not have been as scared. Outlast was nothing to be scared of. Nothing last gen was for that matter. But pt is a freaking nightmare

This is why games will one day take over movie's as the number 1 form of entertainment. I can't remember the last time I was scared at a movie, but I've been getting scared in games since RE2. The fact this game has been mentioned with VR has me salivating. Hope to get some more info on this soon...

I agree. I was watching the game with 4 friends, one of whom had the controller, on my projector screen and we all screamed/swore and jumped back into the couches. I'd like to say we were startled but that would be putting it mildly. We were scared silly. My wife, in another room, heard us all scream and laughed her head off when she came and saw us.

We didn't even try to continue and finish it. Then when we put The Last of Us in, we all still felt extra jumpy thanks to P.T.. Therefore, I would not even think about trying to play this with a VR headset. In fact Sony will definitely have to include warnings for people with heart conditions, pregnant etc. The increased level of immersion will be too intense for all but the bravest and best in health.

I agree with you. I don't think Silent Hills will be in 1st person, because they cast Norman for the lead role. It would be kind of pointless for him to be there if we can't see him etc and SH has always been 3rd person anyway.

But still, it would be insane to play a horror game like this in VR ;D. Ever since I played RE2 years ago, I've been thinking how cool it would be to play horror games like being there yourself.

It could work. There is such a thing as reflective surfaces, flash back scenes, cinematic's ect.

Yes, because we've NEVER seen a game get rebooted from a 3rd person or side scroller view to a first person view. Nope. Never seen that happen before...

Also, I'm sure the game will have tons of cutscenes in which Norman Reedus will be showing off his face. People don't need to see it every second of the game.

Care to provide examples of these reboots that arent results of next generation graphics and hardware (ie SNES -> N64)? In fact, are there any good examples of a series coming from first person to third person that actually worked? And just to be clear, I lost interest in most Nintendo games once they went 3D. But thats just me.

Using the cinematic or reflective surfaces excuse is about as silly as you can get. It doesnt change the fact that its not what Silent Hill is. Its not about immersion. Its about atmosphere and character development. But who am I to talk? Im just a huge Silent Hill fan who has actually played all of them.

Why are you putting a stipulation on it? You're saying these other games were not due to a shift from next gen graphics, but thats exactly what this would be, unless you cqn point me to a Silent Hill game that has been released on PS4/Xbox One?

Furthermore, games like Metroid and Fallout were not changed because of new tech. They could have easily kept those games in the same genre but with updated graphics, but they chose not to. You know what they changed them to? First Person Shooters.

So don't try to tell me that Silent Hill won't be changed to first person shooter because it will change what Silent Hill is. Its been done before.

I'm not saying it will definitely change to FPS, but no one can honestly say that it won't either. Not until we get some kind of confirmation anyway.

You just proved my point. The only games that actually changed genres are those that went from 2D to 3D. The tech ALLOWED them to do that. You cant honestly sit here and tell me those franchises could have started out as first person shooters originally on the tech they were on.

Silent hill started on the PS1 as a third person horror game.
Then it moved to the PS2/Xbox as a third person horror game.
Then it moved to the PS3/Xbox 360 as a third person horror game. It's been a third person game since the beginning and stayed third person on hardware that could easily allow first person.

If you cant give me any legitimate examples of games that drastically changed mechanics between 3D hardware and worked then my point still stands.

Oh wait, you know what? You're right, it has happened before. Silent Hill Book of Memories. A top down co-op shooter for the Vita. And guess what? It was ASS. It pains me to see it have the Silent Hill name.

In my opinion, first person WONT work. Ive played every single Silent Hill game to date and it's perfect the way it is already. Keep in mind the demo had that disclaimer: "NOT representative of the final game" and first person will completely defeat the purpose of casting and modeling Norman Reedus.

Also, lets not forget when Zelda was changed from an over the top action RPG to a side scroller for Zelda 2. My point is, genres have been changed quite a bit in the past.

Also, i understand that you feel like Silent Hills will stop being Silent Hill if ots done from a FPS perspective. But again, a lot of people could say the same about Metroid, which was a side scroller, or Fallout, which was an over the top strategy game. You don't think changing perspectives on those games made them stop being what they were? Those were drastic changes. Just as drastic as changing Silent Hill to FPS. And again, the tech has nothing to do with it because when they made Metroid Prime or the new Falliut games they could have easily kept the genres the same for them, but they didn't. They made them FPS games.

When? Nothing has been said about Silent Hills being multi-platform. I'm sure you hope it is, but one can only conclude that since the demo wasn't released on any other platform, that this game will most likely be a Sony exclusive.

Konami wants to make money, and they need to start fleshing out their Ips more than just depending on Metal Gear to save the day. they want this game on as many platforms as possible.

if theres anything here we should speak about, is whether or not this game will be third person or first person, and if it will be tied to morpheus in some way as a PS exclusive feature (hell throw in oculus in there for the PC guys, makes this conversation even more interesting).

Such a big stink made for tomb raider yet there are people in here saying they want it exclusive for ps4 & if it is its essentially great.

What this is busines, companies make the best deals for their platforms. I think the thing that passed people off about tomb raider was that it wasn't originally announced at E3 as an exclusive. So what ms did was build more attention to the game at gamescom.so yeah people were passed because at first they thought they were getting it but then it's like ms went out and sought this game for an exclusive deal. Not like they said oh from the start it's exclusive.that pisses people off splinter cell was multiple, wasn't that big of deal when it was announced exclusive but people know we that from the beginning.At this point if you have an Xbox 1, it's starting to look like you need a ps4, no matter how loyal a fan you are, the stuff Sony is doing isn't just next Gen it's futuristic and the race is becoming lopsided like ps2 gen. Not saying people didn't buy Xbox back then he'll 30 million people did but if you look at the sales now ms will probably finish this gen at 50 million console and Sony at 110 million Nintendo 30 million.that extra 1 billion on better ram seems like a better deal than ms 1 billion on games. Because people can say games all they won't and performance doesn't matter. But as you can see trying to convince people that a lower powered Console that plays the same games is a better option is a problem and not working. People keep saying I want this game and that game that's why I got an Xbox and a ps4. That's crap, those are new franchises and look great but a new franchise on a new system...ugh not the best games look at watch dogs. So you buy a system for what it can do down the line not for what's present at launch. And ms has a decent line up for 2015. I believe SILENT HILLS will not be a Morpheus exclusive, due to the fact not many people will own one, when SILENT HILLS comes out. But i can see a whole PT game, coming out for Morpheus, too help boost sales. Judging from the comments above me , i can see a lot of people buying Morpheus , including me , to play a full PT game.

I, can't imagine the terror of having something like the dead wife's ghost instantly being in your face like that while using Morpheus. I, love a good scare, but man... It sounds funny, but I seriously could see someone going into cardiac arrest. It would be so creepy to turn your head and look up when the entryway light broke in P.T., to see her staring down at you and then stepping back into the darkness.

They have already said this is a just a teaser and is not a representation of final gameplay. I predict it will still be a third person survival horror. Why else would they sign Reeder? It will also be multi-platform because it is built using the fox engine which is a multiplat engine.
