Sony Comments On Lack of AAA Titles For PS4: "Perception Issue, 2015 Great For Core Players & More"

Playstation 4 is selling like a hot cakes, recently at GamesCom 2014, Sony announced that PS4 worldwide sales has crossed 10 million units. However, critics and fanboys have still tagged it as a "Console With More Indie Games" all because of lack of AAA titles, especially during upcoming Holiday Season.

That's very true. From September onwards every month is filled with interesting games until at least March. Up to now I think both next-gen consoles had a pretty weak lineup but remember that the first year of every new console is/was pretty rough.

If there were no games on PS4 it wouldn't have sold 10 million units and double the X1. It's a ploy from the Xbot side. I've got a backlog on PS4 and there is absolutely no reason to own an X1. I have over 25 games on my PS4 that I pick up at least 1 or more titles every month. Some are AAA others are indie but I always have more than enough games to play on my PS4.

Nobody's forgot that indies can be AAA quality. Xbox 360 owners have known this for eight years. Of course, when 360 owners mentioned indies in their game lists vs. PS3's, the 360 owners were ridiculed by the Sony fans who didn't care about indies.

Indie is used as a derogatory term to imply that the game is about on par with a mobile phone/tablet game.

The term itself isn't being used properly so it can be used to discredit the library that the PS4 is getting, and to downplay how awesome some of those games actually are.

What's funny is that the biggest game for X1 that people said was going to move systems left and right(Titanfall), along with another upcoming one which is apparently a big thing for the Xbox One(Sunset Overdrive), are both indie titles. I've not once seen a Sony fan discredit those titles because they're indie.

The topic at hand is if the PS4 has AAA games for 2014. Not whether or not it has a lot of 1st party AAA games.

As has been shown by posters above, and is easily found by a quick google search, there are a ton of AAA games releasing starting next month, and going throughout the end of the year. So many in fact, most people will never be able to buy and play them all before the next big 1st party AAA exclusive comes out(The Order if you're wondering).

So, keeping it on topic, since the PS4 and X1 are pretty much all getting the same number of AAA 3rd party games, and the X1 has I believe only 1 more AAA 1st party exclusives releasing this holiday, and the fact that too date, the PS4 has had more 1st party AAA content than the X1 has, and has more games released both AAA and "indie", does the perception still exist that the PS4 has no games? Because it is objectively, and subjectively untrue.

It's the same thing that the PS3 was going through when it launched. Sony started the generation off with New IP's, instead of all their old PS2 franchises and people were complaining where are the games / PS3 has no games.

Yet these same people are the ones complaining about there be no new games, no new IP's, and sick of sequels.

They're just a bunch of nagging kids, who honestly don't have the money to afford half the games they claim to want, but simply want to troll or have amply supply of games on their console of choice to bash the other consoles.

Real gamers are out playing and enjoying the games on each of these consoles, while those who have so much time to talk and nag, either don't have the money to game like they claim to, or don't have the console to begin with to know all the good games on there already AAA or not.

I admit Sony could do better balancing New IP and established franchises better, but for the most part they want their established IP's to be the best they can which is why they're generally Year 2 / Year 3 games.

Sorry but this isn't a Sony only issue. As soon as Microsoft decided to pursue games with ID@Xbox, they basically committed to the same thing as Sony and will now have more Indies than AAA exclusives.

I mean people crave AAA games, but I guess that this year alone is not enough:

inFamous Second Son, MLB 14 The Show, The Last of Us Remastered, LittleBigPlanet 3, Guilty Gear Xrd, PlanetSide 2, DriveClub, Deep Down is about as much as Xbone has this year.

The general perception that the PS4 has no games exists due to the constant mantra from many XBox fan boys who insist that the PS4 has no games, or the discrediting of it's entire library because apparently it's too indie-centric(indie being a derogatory term nowadays to downplay the AAA'ness of a title of course), or focusing on the AAA titles that will exist next year, as opposed to the ones coming out in the next few months(or currently released).

And yes, many of us, and I assume most who have purchased a PS4 already, know that there are a lot of games available and upcoming. But that doesn't stop the pervasive attacks on the PS4's library to make another system look better when it actually has less content overall.

Sure. Only you can decide what is worth your time and money. That's what makes it a very subjective argument when trying to say if a console has games or not.

It's one thing to say, "The PS4 has no games that appeal to me", it's quite another to say "The PS4 has no games". The first statement is based on tastes, and is subjective, whereas the latter statement is outright false because you can count the games and see that the statement is patently false.

And that's why this article is saying that it's a perception issue. One that I don't even believe exists. I believe the Xbox fan boys want to say and possibly believe that the PS4 has no games, but every PS4 owner I know knows what games are coming out, what's available, and what they're likely to be buying.

Now if all those same people said it had no games that appealed to them, I'd be OK with that. But I still find it hard to believe out of the entire library that they can't find any games that are worth their time or money, because they most likely do exist either in 1st or 3rd party.

The only AAA game I care about this year is Far Cry 4, but there is a BUNCH of indies that I want. My only "problem" is that most indies are also playable on Vita and between the PS4 and Vita, Vita wins most of the time (I just love that little machine), so in my case, it's true that I don't have much to play on PS4, but it really is a first world problem and I'm not complaining.

I really don't get the "no games" argument I keep seeing. People dismiss multiplatform titles, but they are still playable. People dismiss indie titles, but they are still games that can be enjoyed. I've put a ton of time into Rogue Legacy this month. I'm going to run through The Last of Us Remastered starting this weekend. Tuesday I will be jumping into Diablo 3: RoS, which will probably tide me over until Destiny releases (and if it doesn't, then I have a huge backlog of other games that will). After Destiny there is a flood of games coming. But I guess I have no games to play.

In all honest there aren't a lot of first part IP's for Sony, or MS for that matter, at the current time. PS4 exclusive first parties:
1) Infamous SS
2) Knack
3) TLOU RM
4) Killzone SF
5) Resogun

And... I am sure there are other "exclusive" indies but focusing on first party or second party big PS4 IP's, these are honestly the only 5 I can think of.

It's no different for MS now or Nintendo in 2012/13. That's the nature of a new gen. But man... 2015 looks AMAZING for PS4:

You may say that it's because they're Sony fans, but a lot of Sony fans have been saying it about the Vita the past few months, because support has dried up, so I'm sure the larger install base of the PS4 may have complaints if there were no games.

You can get the Limited Edt X1 with Sunset Overdrive for $400. But if you're still undecided, if you play more first person shooters get the X1 first. If you like to play a lot of indies, get the ps4.

Because what I see is a watered down Forza 4 with next gen graphics aka forza 5, titanfall which out of the mouths of consumers was labeled a disappointment and not even an exclusive according to xbots since its on the 360, Ryse-a qte snoozefest that again got horrible feedback from fans and critics, the only thing of significance is killer instinct and its not even a new ip its a recycled Nintendo game. Its forecast has potential with games like quantum break, scaleboud, and maybe phantom dust. But when the only thing people are heavily anticipating in the next six months is a collection of one of the only successful franchises Microsoft has ever had it doesn't speak much for the console. Honestly, while I'm tired of Sony pushing Indies, it's more because of how they hype them. Coming into E3 and Gamescom, Sony put out plenty of hype about all the 'amazing' titles they were going to show off. So when I tuned into the conference, and saw Indie after Indie, I was incredibly disappointed.

However, the PS4 has plenty of games. I picked my PS4 up on July 30th, and I've played The Last of Us, Killzone, and InFamous since I picked it up. Aside from Killzone, I haven't been disappointed. I'll probably pick up Tomb Raider in the next two weeks or so, and that'll tide me over till Destiny, which will keep me busy for weeks if the beta was any indication.

Sony currently has 99 games available to play, 10 of which are exclusives. 315 total, as of 2014, either released or in development. Hohokum/TLOU Remastered were last exclusives (Aug 12/July 29 2014)

Xbox One has 59 games available to play, 12 of which are exclusives. 278 total, as of 2014, either released or in development. Kinect Rivals was the last exclusive released in April of 2014

Wii U has 100 games available to play...409 total, as of July 2014, either released or in development. Wii Sports Club was the last exclusive released Aug. 8, 2014.

I would say that there is indeed a perception issue. All consoles have something to play. All consoles have plenty of exclusive content (especially for this point in time in the generation). They even have great 3rd party AAA support.
The choice of a console, and games, is highly subjective. People who say that "there are no games" are just not telling the truth. People who say "there are no games for ME, or there are more games that I like on another console" are just choosing their console of preference.
