I'm amazed that strategy guides are still a thing. Games like Diablo 3 are constantly being changed with patches, so the information in the guide will eventually be obsolete, and with sites like GameFAQs and services like YouTube, it is easy to get information about a game for free. How do companies make money off physical guides anymore?

Physical books & strategy guides are made because people still buy them. People like myself still buy physical music CDs, Movies, Video Games, Comics & Books. It's kind of like people who buy statues. They would much rather pay a lot of money & have the physical statue in their home rather than a picture on a computer.
I understand your concerns about the guide not having the updated changes to the game but the guide is still valid unless the game is just completely overhauled. How would small changes make the stategy guide obsolete?

I understand the desire to have physical things like movies, games, books, etc, but a statue is a poor example for a counterargument. There is a fundamental difference between a statue and a picture of a statue. There is not a fundamental difference in information found in a strategy guide versus information found online, except that the online information is free and more up to date.

Diablo 3 has been overhauled quite a bit since it released. It will continue to be changed well after the RoS guide hits the shelves.

All of your other examples (CDs, movies, games, comics, books, statues, etc) are great to have in physical form. A good book will always be a good book. A good movie will always be a good movie. A strategy guide may not always be a good guide.

If Blizzard doesn't support the game after launch then how will the guide be out dated? It is the UEE guide. I read somewhere they may not add updates post launch.
Has any news came out otherwise?

Was about to say the same kinda thing lol i got the Diablo 3 guide for the pc the day of release and it's content was massively outdated with in a month because of all the hot fixes to everything lol , there are even abilities in the guide the game doesn't even have any more.

I preordered the original game for PS3. It's nice to see im not worthy to play it unless I want to fork out another $40 just for the Add on content. Screw putting it in the PS store. Thats ok though. Fool me once shame on you. There won't be a second time Blizzard.

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.

I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.

All those games had to release without bugs.

Comebacks shouldnt be a thing in videogames. Just saying.

Diablo III - Still a Huge Draw in the Face of Diablo IV

Diablo III still works on modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and remains hugely playable a decade after initial release.

Are you comparing a continuously improved 10+ years old masterpiece with the... beta of an unreleased game?

kevco33387d ago

Heh, yeah. There's no comparison in here! Its a commentary on how III is still very playable over a decade later.
