Casey Hudson’s Departure from BioWare/EA

From Aaryn Flynn, BioWare Studio General Manager

After nearly 16 years of game development at BioWare, Executive Producer Casey Hudson has made the decision to move on from BioWare and enter a new stage of his career. We thank Casey for his hard work and dedication as we look back on his time with BioWare.

From what little I've heard about the man, all I can really say about this news is - YEAH!

Not that he likely wont be replaced by another "Yes Man" who'll put a game's release date before its production quality.

DoubleR_Boss3549d ago

YEAH indeed! Now that Sylar from Heroes is leaving Bioware, the next Mass Effect is on preorder for me!!

Naga3549d ago (Edited 3549d ago )

@ DoubleR_Boss

So now that EA gets to choose his replacement, you're more confident in the future of the Mass Effect franchise?

crxss3548d ago (Edited 3548d ago )

thanks for the Mass Effect 3 ending.......

Godmars290 -"

I say this really blows, Casey Hudson was a huge part in the original mass effect, before EA took part in the franchise. I'm beginning to have my doubts now that he's gone.

MightyNoX3549d ago

Casey lost my respect when he promised the endings of Mass effect would not be A, B or C. Lo and behold~

Perjoss3549d ago

@MightyNoX

When devs speak to the public there are just saying what they are told to say. How many times have you heard any dev say anything even remotely negative about their own game?

As far as I know only John Carmack has done this when he was talking about Rage before it even shipped.

700p3549d ago

You guys do realize that bioware montreal is making the new mass effect..so casey hudson was gonna have nothing to do with the new mass effect. They were working on that new ip though.

Godmars2903549d ago

That's okay. Wasn't expecting much from ME4 in the first place. Not considering what's been done with the series overall.

-Foxtrot3549d ago (Edited 3549d ago )

Thanks for being one of the people who had a MAIN role in ruining Mass Effect Casey....oh don't forget the ending aswell

Don't come back

Naga3549d ago (Edited 3549d ago )

While there's plenty of blame to be handed out, I think you might be missing the bigger problem. Mass Effect wasn't "ruined" until Electronic Arts got involved.

-Foxtrot3549d ago

Yeah but Casey, you know being the guy who created the franchise, could of grown a back bone and at least of tried to stop EA wanting the changes

Naga3549d ago (Edited 3549d ago )

I mostly agree. I know it would have been asking a lot, but I would have liked to have seen him stake his career on the creative integrity of the franchise. The fact that he wasn't willing to make that stand earns him a healthy amount of the blame for the debacle.

But with that said, I'm just trying to point out the big elEphAnt in the room and question how excited about this news we really ought to be.

Pandamobile3549d ago

Foxtrot clearly does not know what it's like to work under EA.

OrangePowerz3549d ago

@Fox

How do we know he didn't try? If he tries too hard he will be fired as easy as that since he is an employee and has to do what he gets told by whoever is in charge.

Godmars2903548d ago

No, have to disagree about "ruined" with EA. From what I've seen of play-throughs of ME1, though I own it on PC, it could have been a decent sci-fi title with thriller aspects, but the "mystery" is spoon-fed to you. And ME2, which I've both played and still own, was worse. Was all about character presentation, certain role-play situations, but otherwise it had no story.

EA likely made a worse mess by pushing release dates, but not by much.

@OrangePowerz:
"How do we know he didn't try?"

Considering what we got, you should even need to ask.

"could of grown a back bone and at least of tried to stop EA wanting the changes."

That's silly. Do you really expect that a single man can oppose to the interests of a huge corporation like EA is?

Humanoid Studios Announced by BioWare's Casey Hudson

Former BioWare General Manager & VP Casey Hudson has announced Humanoid Studios, a new game developer aiming to "[build] something special."

Lore1030d ago

Wonder if they will set the bar for new age RPG’s as he did before

neutralgamer19921030d ago (Edited 1030d ago )

Proper RPG's like old bioware Sony should sign his studio they need some RPG studios

phoenixwing1030d ago

Honestly since I can't find a ps5 and have a gaming pc it would annoy me but it would be a good move by Sony to get an exclusive from them

neutralgamer19921030d ago

Just wait man we will get one. And when we do we will get a much better experience because system keeps getting updates and more games will be available to play

1030d ago
neutralgamer19921030d ago

I don't know they just got out from under EA, they can co-publish the game or sign a partnership agreement with the console maker. I don't see them selling themselves right away at least

oof461030d ago

“Sony should buy them.” Gets upvoted

“MS should buy them.” Gets downvoted and scolded.

N4G still N4G’ing.

barom1029d ago (Edited 1029d ago )

"Sony should SIGN [them]", fixed it for you.

But nice try.

A Message From Laura Miele, Chief Studios Officer, Electronic Arts

Bioware blog: "We strive for all of our studios to be places where talented creative people come to do career-defining work. A dimension of this ambition is that sometimes those people want to try something different. Casey Hudson, GM, BioWare and Mark Darrah, Executive Producer, Dragon Age are two of those people and they have decided to move on from BioWare."

It's been sinking for awhile. As much as I didn't mind andromeda and inquisition there was no doubt that they were sub par compared to past games from the developer.

Imalwaysright1237d ago

Subpar is an extremely nice word to compare "Bioware's" latest games to what the real Bioware used to make.

Godmars2901238d ago

"Sinking"?

Is that what they call ships already on the bottom of he ocean nowadays?

AngainorG7X1238d ago

I am really sad that Casey left again. I mean wtf

Christopher1238d ago

I'm honestly not. I think he's the main weak link in many of their issues since the ME3 ending.

neutralgamer19921238d ago

So much of the OG talent of bioware has left I know the studio is called bioware but it's mostly new developers there. I just want EA gives them time and resources to work on big AAA games

RaidenBlack1238d ago

Archetype Entertainment is the new BioWare which the fans have grown to love.

LordoftheCritics1237d ago

Mass Effect was Casey's baby.

Sad times.

Double_O_Revan1238d ago

I have so little faith in Bioware at this point that I don't even think they'll be able to handle the Mass Effect Remaster properly. It is beyond sad what happened to that studio.

BioWare: Anthem Has a Big Critical Path Story; We'll See if Our Next Games Are Multiplayer, Too

BioWare said that Anthem will have a 'big' critical path story, though it will have less finality than what Dragon Age or Mass Effect fans might be used to since it will be updated over time. When talking about their next games, they didn't rule out the chance they'd be multiplayer-centric, too.

I hope so! I'm afraid you might be able to fast-track through the story too quickly.

rainslacker1897d ago

The fact they barely even told anyone about it, except to say it exists, doesn't really instill me with confidence. Mass Effect had a critical path story, and that was a bigger focus on the trailers, and you knew it was there. This, all we really see is that its some sort of Destiny clone.

Their intention seems obvious, because the marketing exists. If I'm wrong, then maybe I'll check it out.

chrisx1898d ago (Edited 1898d ago )

the bioware I knew and loved is long gone. pity.

Cybermario1898d ago

please keep making offline games too xD

chris2351898d ago

i will be there with my open wallet when you lost this generic online nonsense
