The top 10 games from the first half of 2014

Chalgyr's Game Room writes:

The first half of 2014 blew by very quickly in the gaming industry (so fast that we were almost through the first seven months before I finished putting my thoughts together on the year's first six months!). While there are no doubt quite a few quality games coming out in the second half of 2014, I wanted to take a look back and talk about the top 10 releases so far (plus 5 that just missed and the biggest disappointment of 2014 so far). Some of these names are pretty familiar, but others? Perhaps not

DoctorJones3558d ago

A pretty good list, but Wolfenstein would be near the top of mine.

NeoGamer2323558d ago

Agreed. 20 hours of awesome single player goodness.

Protagonist3558d ago

Been Ignoring Wolfenstein since I`m not really a fan of FPS games with an exception of a few titles.

However it seems to get continuous praise.

Is Wolfenstein: The New Order a game to pick up for my PS3?, as I said I´m not a FPS fan but I really enjoyed the Killzone series.

DeadRabbits3558d ago (Edited 3558d ago )

Titanfall has to be the biggest disappointment, many people actually bought an xbone just to play it, now they have been left with an inferior console while the TLOU Remastered is about to launch and it raking in 10/10's

DoctorJones3558d ago (Edited 3558d ago )

The ps4 games have mostly been disappointing. The best game on ps4 released this year has been a remake of a game that came out last year on the ps3. That's the best the ps4 has offered so far.

Let's have some perspective.

LazyGoron3558d ago

I agree with your argument in principal. They indeed are remaking a "last year PS3" game so it is true that "last year's best game on PS3 is/will be the best PS4 game for now".

But let's have some perspective, we're talking about one of, if not "the", the highest rated games of all time and one of the best games of a 8+ year generation. This isn't a normal re-release or remake.

To say that the best game on PS3 last generation is coming to PS4 and this is in someway a "negative" thing is ignorant IMO.

It's like scoffing at Nintendo if they remade Legend of Zelda OoT for Wii U and saying: "Wii U library is disappointing, one of the best games is a N64 game" They're upgrading a greatest game of all time, arguably. Certainly not a bad thing.

How many games on the gamecube were better than OoT? How many, literally, how many games over the entire PS4 generation will top TLOU? If I was honest I'd say... 5? Maybe more if we're lucky? That's how hard it is to make a "game of a generation".

To expect PS4's library to contend, consistently, with titles like the TLOU is silly.

DoctorJones3558d ago

I don't disagree Lazy, it's one of the best games I've ever played, TLOU was one of those 'wake up' moments in gaming. I love TLOU. I just don't like DeadRabbits and his petty comments, or his ilk.

NeoGamer2323558d ago

Really your comment was just fanboy flamebait. So I will oblige...

Titanfall on inferior hardware is better than the people who pre-ordered a PS4 last year to play DriveClub... Imagine how embarrassing that is... Buying a console for a racing game and then seeing it delayed a year.

Or the people who ran out and bought the PS3 for The Last Guardian... Now, they will be told to buy a PS4 to play the game.

And TLOU... Yes, it is a great game... But re-mastered after a year? And they are giving the option of running at locked 30 fps instead of 60 fps because it doesn't hold 60 fps... So you are spending $50 to upgrade the game from 720p to 1080p and able to lock at 30 fps... lol... And it will get 10/10... Woohoo Play last Year's game with 30% better resolution... People laughed at Tomb Raider for doing that.

Games I played best from Top to bottom:
Mario Kart 8
Bravely Default
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze
Final Fantasy X HD (PS Vita)
Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars (3DS)
Yoshi's New Island

Need to get the already out 2014 releases
Demon Gaze, Kirby Triple Deluxe, Mario Golf World Tour and Dynasty Warriors Xtreme Legends 8 (PS Vita).

100%, locked 60fps and still look great all these years later, same with the expansion, definitely worth a look if people haven't played it yet, not the best games ever made but a good experience, hopefully a new infamous gets released

KwietStorm_BLM103d ago

Never was my favorite infamous, but it was definitely a graphics showcase early on PS4. Still plays well with the unlocked frame rate.

SDuck103d ago

Still remember getting hyped about this game nearing release. Funny because I never even got a PS4. Jumped from PS3 to PC so I never played it ahahaha

OmegaSoldati103d ago

Its a good game. But thats it. Congratulations you made the best choice. I dream to have a great PC one day.

Profchaos103d ago (Edited 103d ago )

Graphically It's a absolutely stunning game that still holds up today.

Didn't have all that much depth to it forcing you to play though twice for a platinum trophy a good and bad run it was a little disappointing how similar those were Delsin would be like I'm not doing that for you in a cutscene but the cutscene would play out and force you to do it anyway just as you would of in a good run

I did like the story however it got a lot of complaints back in the day people hated playing as Delsin instead of cole despite Coles story being wrapped up.

Overall though the map wasn't overly saturated with useless points of interest there was some collectibles and things to find but nothing compared to a Ubisoft game.

I think it was a good game if a little hollow I've played it through around 4 times now since it's so short.

Also it's DLC was great a full story expansion

I've played 15, and I wouldn't consider any of those underrated TBH. Some of them are pretty high rated.

banger88135d ago

That's amazing, Gamingbolt actually put all 15 games on the same page.

shinoff2183134d ago

I. Not seeing anything on that list underrated. I never played concrete genie, the ASTRO vr,and one other but I forgot the name already. Nothing on there was underrated at all imo.

persona4chie133d ago

There’s only 4 of those games I never played, and no most of those aren’t underrated.
