Destiny’s Public Beta Stress Test Just Crashed Xbox Live’s Party System

Bungie told it's players to come out between 2-4 PM PST on Saturday and show its servers the true meaning of war. Now, Xbox's party and friends system has broke, and it looks like we've succeeded.

To be fair, its not like PSN just straight up broke for a whole month. They shut down psn due to the privacy intrusion it had from the hackers. Im glad they shut it down to fix the problem so it never happens again. It would be a different story if we were paying for mandatory online play back then but it was still free at that point. The full game will still not be on MS servers. Thats only something that XBOX exclusive games get to use. Every 3rd party game will use their own servers.

edit. Nope im wrong. MS made their azure servers open to every developer but its their choice to use them. But i doubt a developer sitting behind a publisher like activision will have the need to use them. I wouldnt be suprised if MS charges each developer to use their servers.

@caprademon i have, fps is a no no on ps4. Have you ever seen a fps that isnt bf or cod succeed on ps? That controller and responsiveness is horrid for shooters. Imo so f n clunky. I just tried to play with friends and my exp was horrible. I wouldnt buy destiny if it wasnt for xone soooooo to each his own. Fps on a ps lmfao. Thats cute.

It was a Bungie software error man. I was able to talk and play just fine during the said times with people. I was just unable to invite people through Destiny's friends splash screen. Quit FUDing around.

The chat system on Xbone has been broken since the Beta started. I have voices coming out of the my headphone, out of the TV, out of the Kinect. They DONT however work when you unsnap the party from the screen. It's utterly broken at the moment.

Party chat is glitched for Destiny beta. In order for it to work you have to do exactly what I say.....
1: Start Party chat with friends in the party.
2: Press the guide button on the controller and highlight Destiny Beta.
3: Press the menu button, and scroll down to QUIT Destiny Beta.
4: Launch Destiny Beta

If you do this, party chat will work. Otherwise it will glitch and the only way to hear party members will be to have it Snapped. Hope this helps, been doing it since the Beta launched on Xbox

Yeah I understand, I had discovered the glitch the morning the beta released for Xbox one. Searched online, and their was already a forum regarding the glitch and explaining a workaround. Anyhow, I agree! It better be fixed for launch hahaha.

if you're using gamechat, its set to play through your speakers and headphones, a simple change of your settings would fix it. also, start your parties before you open destiny and youll be fine. if you open destiny first, go to the home screen, press start on the destiny box, and press quit. when you re-open the game, unsnap the party right away. it'll fix that problem. thats a problem with destiny though, not the party system

These are Bungie/Activision issues. Bungie even addressed these issues as their own in the FAQ section for the Destiny Beta on Xbox One.

The party system is running on xbl servers even if the game is running on activision servers for the beta. This whole xbl vs psn thing is kinda old news now. Psn on ps4 has been very stable for me. There's issues every once and a while, but there's issues every once in a while on xbl. Since launch party chat on ps4 has worked every time I've used it. In like 2009 sure, xbl kicked psn's ass, although psn was free. But now there both very stable like 99 percent of the time.

Party chat is far different from the actual game. There were no hiccups in the game.

Xbox Help on Twitter said there were log in issues. In fact, if you go and look at that Twitter feed, you'll see Live on XB1 has had many more issues than PSN on PS4.

A lot of cheering from the PlayStation faithful over this one; Well, good for you.

The key element that you all are missing, blinded by your joy, is the fact that the XBL network itself did not crash, it was just the "Friends/Party" aspect of the service.

You could still play online games, including Destiny, and use all of the other online apps and services.

Now admittedly, not being able to talk to your friends and join their game, is frustrating and can cause your gaming experience to less enjoyable.

The good news is, it will be fixed :)

well this is starting to tick me off. while you can play online fine no party system, few weeks ago we couldn't sign in. what is going with microsoft servers this gen you would think after so many years of xbox live they would have it down. someone is getting fired for sure, while i doubt the beta had anything to do with it.

that beta needs lots of work theres times when my team has all the points and the game says they captured all points we are being overrunned. or when the other team has all the points and says we have all the points or they have two points and still says they have all points. I've also noticed some people are starting a match with their power all ready charged up. some issues with the titan smash sometimes player take no damage from hit. titan super punch not much stronger than a regular melee

What happened is a lot of fanboys got together to upvote and agree each other into ignorance. Of course everyone is online agreeing because anytime Xbox does anything wrong its the end of the world. Anytime Ps does it. Its just part of the plan and they are doing it because they are for the gamers. I have both consoles and I can tell you PSN still has a long way to go. PS4 IS A MORE POWERFUL CONSOLE. Just like XBL has better chat and dedicated servers. Here come the disagrees. :)

You do have alot more people on xbox live than psn so this is no surprise.Plus destiny is gonna be huge on the xbox systems compared to the playstation systems.I would say there are about 5 million people playing the beta.I know titanfall had over 2 million for their beta on xbox live and everything went smooth.Also you have to think since the X1 hit $399 its doubled in sales more people jumping online now

I bought my Xbox one the week it came out and the party chat system has barely worked at all. Half the time your party joins and can't talk or can talk but you cant. I'm not certain how you can mess up the awesome system you had on the Xbox360 but mission accomplished. At least Skype works well. They seriously do need to fix the horrendous chat though. It is terrible.

You might wanna check your NAT settings in the network settings. If they are set to strict or moderate instead of open it will definitely hinder your ability to chat with a lot of people on Xbox live, including in your party. Just a thought, may or may not work.

Makes me glad they did the stress test. I would call it a success since it broke things. Even on PS4 the Destiny servers crumbled after 15 minutes (PSN didn't go down by anymeans, just Destiny)
