Sam Raimi Talks The Last of Us, Maisie Williams Could Star

From Cinelinx:

We've know that The Last of Us is being turned into a movie, with Sam Raimi guiding the film as a producer, but that's about all we know. Today at SDCC, Sam Raimi took the stage to talk about the upcoming film along with the game and screenwriter for it, Neil Druckmann. One of the more interesting tidbits is that Maisie Williams had been approached for a lead role.

Sam Raimi knows horror. I hope he can keep with the serious tone of the game.

Sam Raimi knows cheap b-grade comedy horror, not that that's a bad thing, I love the Evil Dead films, you'll know that if you was in my house

The Last Of Us is a SERIOUS story, emotion etc, something Sam Raimi doesn't do in his movies

I personally think this is horrible news, i'd rather it not got made than have Sam Raimi attached

InTheLab3559d ago

Yeah Rami does do emotions but he does them horribly bad. The Spider-Man films comes to mind with Toby McGuire turning on the water works every few moments.

Rami always has an annoying habit of casting friends and family in his movies and those friends and family are terrible actors that we love anyway. Hopefully he takes a hard look at who he chooses for Joel because Bruce Cambell is certainly not up for it and he really shouldn't be in the film at all.

Also, Rami destroyed The sword of Truth so many should question how good he is at adapting serious material.

did you know that Sam Raimi did american version of the grudge? that one was damn scary

WeAreLegion3559d ago

Raimi was just a producer on The Grudge...which was absolutely horrible.

@Hells

and Drag Me To Hell, that too was awesome. I am glad you too are a fan of the slapstick horror genre, and I concur with what you said. Good thing he's a producer (for now at least) and Druckmann is penning the script.

I like Sam Raimi's films and all, but for different reasons than I like The Last of Us. On the face of it, it might be a "Zombie" movie, but that's not the tone it achieves.

The good news is that it doesn't matter. The Producer doesn't set the tone of anything but the budget. As long as they get a good Director, the movie will be in good shape.

knifefight3559d ago

For reference, Maisie Williams is Arya in Game of Thrones.

Bill_Willson_CIA3558d ago

Oh no! She looks like The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Pillsbury13559d ago

I hope they have a good screenplay with a great plot to match the raw emotion the game evokes.

ajax173559d ago (Edited 3559d ago )

Screen Gems is the production company. That's not a good sign... they almost always make terrible movies. Too bad it isn't Sony Pictures Classics.

Hellsvacancy3559d ago

It's strange that Sonys Pictures isn't funding this, it's as if they know it's just a cash grab

ajax173558d ago

Screen Gems is owned by Sony. It's a division of Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group

Chloe Moretz as Ellie

Josh Brolin as Joel

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast80d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs77d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast77d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs76d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast76d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer80d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing6980d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs77d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing6977d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.

The Last Of Us Online Devs Celebrate Their Experience With The Canceled Game

The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.

Chocoburger125d ago

All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.

What a waste of time and money, what a shame.

seanpitt2381d ago

I can't wait for season 2 so they can kill Joel off in the first 2 episodes!! Then it will be just Abby and Ellies revenge plot!

Something is telling me that this won't happen though because it wouldn't make sense, oh wait

Linzoid125d ago

Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.

TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…

anast124d ago

This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
