To an extent, yes.
The series has Never been huge on having the most realistic or impressive graphical assets, but the art styles have almost always been something to look forward to.(Wind Waker took some getting used to by fans, but it grew on most of them after a while)
It's the gameplay, or rather, the changes to the gameplay that each iteration of the series brings to the fore, that keeps the series feeling entertaining despite its age, though.

No it doesn't, people buy it and websites give it 10's not matter what just because it's zelda. It could be a pile of crap on a disc and people will still give it a 10.

The game is way outdated, you still have to read the text while playing the game because Nintendo is stubborn as a mule and refuses to get with the times.

And it's always the same bullshit story, about a boy who is destined to go on this super important quest to save Zelda, and zelda and link are always flirting with the childhood friends bullshit because we all know what is truly important in life, but apparently they have to keep the game rated G. It just gets tiring you know, the same corny bullshit. I mean get over it people!

And link still has no personality, he's still the same mute errand boy doing everyone's shit, like a dog goes to fetch a stick. The main character of the game might as well be a dog, it would make no difference.

Just saying, it was a cool idea in the 80's, but you get tired of the same shit over and over.

Nintendo can't go out of business soon enough.

Having played only Skyward Sword and A Link Between Worlds so far, I believe that Zelda games share a formula and just about nothing else. New dungeons, new gameplay, new stories with lots of different characters and completely different art styles. Maybe I need to play more of them to get a sense of same-ness, but so far I think you are way off base. And wanting Nintendo to go out of business? Pfft, keep dreaming man. Those guys have more coin in the bank than you and I will make in our lifetimes. XD

wonderfulmonkeyman3557d ago

Nice try, but you're not getting a rise out of me with that troll post.XD

I don't think it really matters, it's the gameplay that counts but I can fully understand peoples frustration with the new Zelda art style when they thought it was going to be like the Wii U's tech demo.

colonel1793557d ago

The reason people get frustrated with the art style is because, I assume, a lot of them want,to see a realistic Zelda. After seeing games like Demon's Souls, I can understand why people would want it, and the game has a lot of potential having a realistic art style.

With that said, Zelda has always been about the gameplay, so that's more important to focus when making the game.

Wind Waker looked horrendous in my opinion, couldn't get past it's appearance. Twilight Princess was more in line with the Zelda game I was expecting when I bought a Gamecube.

-Foxtrot3557d ago

I think that's exaggerating it a bit...it wasn't horrendous. I know people didn't like it as much but I thought it was great.

As I said though I liked the gameplay in Wind Waker more. Travelling to islands by boat was fantastic.

colonel1793557d ago (Edited 3557d ago )

I actually think that the art style looked fantastic. Maybe what you didn't like was the character design. In my opinion, I didn't like Skyward Sword art style nor the design of many of the characters.

Zelda Wii U for me is amazing that it looks to borrow a lot of the Wind Waker art style.

@Foxtrot: Every time I was on the boat, I wondered how amazing it would've been to have that huge ocean as land and ride Epona to explore it. We might be getting just that for Zelda Wii U, so it's great.

Metallox3557d ago

It should matter for Nintendo, you know. Isn't it interesting that Skyward Sword couldn't top Twilight Princess sales despite the bigger installed base?

-Foxtrot3557d ago

I think it was mostly because (dare I actually say this and be screamed at).....wasn't actually a good Zelda game

It was a total step back for the franchise, this isn't just my "opinion" on it by the way it actually was. It wasn't as open, it restricted you, options were limited, freedom/choice etc

It was very repetitive, I think people got sucked into the hype with that one...especially reviewers saying it was good if not better then Twilight Princess.

Baka-akaB3557d ago

Yes , however well crafted and animated , i just dislike the Wind Waker style . There is always one artstyle someone might not be able to go past , despite a good gameplay . This is such one case with me

caseh3557d ago

Same, call me shallow but if it isn't aesthetically pleasing I simply won't bother.

Summons753557d ago

Nope I feel it actually helps each game feels fresh and its own game. Plus their are designs are always improving so it will be interesting to see what they have in store. ZeldaU looks like a happy balance between Oot and windwaker, like skyward sword much improved.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno72d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Matt from We Game Daily writes "The Legend of Zelda series has gone in a different direction. One which, try as I have, I just can’t get on board with. Here is why I think Zelda should return to its 3D roots."

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic103d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon103d ago (Edited 103d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast103d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul103d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.
