"Nintendo made the little plumber Mario into the most iconic face in video games. We all know him, and we’ve all played a Mario game before. But with nearly 30 years of classic games to feature the portly mascot I’ve decided that now is the time to discuss the top Mario games ever made. With over 100 titles to star the Italian maestro, I’ve instantly narrowed the results down to titles to have the Mario name in the title. That means that titles such as Smash Bros are out, whilst franchises such as Mario Kart, Mario Party and the various Mario Sports titles are okay. Silly list is silly...

1. SMB 3
2. SM 64
3. Super Mario World
4. Super Mario Galaxy
5. Super Mario Bros

How is yoshis island on this list? Over time this has clearly been the "first" of the yoshi series. In that regard, IMO, this doesn't qualify it as a Mario game.

Galaxy is certainly one of the best Mario games out there. Of course, the first should go first because they others don't exist unless it does.

Sorry. Yes, Galaxy is one of my favorites. My second sentence was too vague. By "the first" I meant Super Mario Bros. because the series wouldn't be what it is without it.

^^ LazyGoron... They specifically state that any game with the world "Mario" in the title is applicable - Since it is Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island - that make's it okay

Then the mario sports games, paint, party, kart, paper, rpg etc are all applicable? Not arguing your point but clearly when people think of "Mario" games they immediately turn to the 2D and 3D main games.

You don't even play as Mario in SMW2. I feel you should be controlling Mario for the game to be on the list.

Super mario world, mario 64 and SMB 3 are the best, in any order. NOne are better than those.
