PS4 Firmware Update Details Right Around the Corner

Now they release bigger updates slower, people complaining they aren't updating enough.

Lol ps3 players didn't complain about too many updates infact they complained there wasn't enough!

The biggest issue ps3 players had with firmware updates on the ps3 was the slow release of new features as most updates took months and either were just stability updates or features nobody asked for like a photo album! lol

Now ps4 firmware updates are going the same way months between each update and mostly just stability updates lacking in features.

ya i remember reading all the complaints about all the fw updates. It didnt help that they brought small changes too.

The biggest problem with the PS3 updates, most of them were "fixes stability issues" or "improves system performance" only, without actual features on the user-end being added. Add (at the time) slow download speeds to not getting new features, and the updates became a chore with no noticeable payoff most of the time.

I think the biggest issue with PS3 updates was that your PS3 couldn't do anything while updating.

With the automatic downloads that PS4 has, smaller and more wouldn't be a bad thing.

Honestly, though, I like the big updates more as the change is more noticeable.

Because the ps 4 is lacking in so many features. It's stripped down , bares to the bone. The fact that I can't change my background let alone play a damn song pisses me off. So yeah I look forward to the updates hoping that sony doesn't fuck up it up take more shit away. Btw. The ps 3 took forever to update. That's why nobody wanted to update it.

If you find his comments annoying, you can literally see his username or avatar and skip right over his comment. He only has ONE per article. If it bothers you so much what someone does with their life on the internet, you care too much. They are sitting on high laurels cuz the PS4 Love/X1 Hate going on. There's no getting around the lack of features and broken current features though. The video saving needs to work 100% of the time, even in crappy unoptimized games that overuse the CPU like COD Ghosts where it works the least.

The mp3 player/media server support not being here still is beyond a crime. I've said it a million times, it's clear as to why we still don't have these 2 - they want more time to lock frustrated customers into Music/Video Unlimited subscriptions while there's no other choice.

That's one thing I'm upset with Yoshida about, I feel he was being dishonest when he first started responding to the mp3 player/media server outcry. He was acting as if he didn't realize so many people would be so hype for these things, yet Music/Video Unlimited were integrated flawlessly from day 1. So, it's not that hard to add it up, they borrowed an Xbox move and put mp3 playing and video watching behind a paywall.

Then to calm us down, every 6 months Yoshida pops his head out to say, "Don't worry, we are working hard on an mp3 app and media support." Then, there's never any news of progress on them, even though these are 2 of the easiest, quickest things to get done. Whatever, I just would rather play my PS3 because I want to, not resorting to it because I have to to stream a movie from my PC to the big TV.

How do you know how easy or quick it is to add support for MP3 etc? Admittedly it is my biggest gripe with PS4 at the moment regards missing features especially 3d blu ray and suspend feature but the first few years of PS3 everyone moaned that there were to many firmware updates. I would happy if we got an update quarterly as long as we knew what features will be included.

I agree with you on what Yoshida has been doing. It's annoying and pathetic. He can't think we are that stupid. I'm hoping for DLNA, custom audio playback, and customization of the home screen.

I'm no programmer and even I agree with Xtra here. MP3 playback has been done for 20 years now. It's nothing new and isn't that hard to implement. Even if it was, it was already in the PS3 so get it in the PS4. That's how I feel about it

I had that issue in release date because of many things to download then i found a solution for it but now i finish what i start downloading then go for something else if there is. When i play the download stop too . So gladly i'm over it lol ...

The suspend/resume I see coming some time later. Taking over a friend's game will not happen, at least as advertised in the reveal. It will be the 'in game cross-chat' of this generation.

I'd like features that were shown at the reveal too. In all honesty though, I don't think we will ever be able to "take over a friend's game". I don't even understand why they showed that off. I don't think it has anything to do with PSNow either. I could be wrong, but they seem very different. That and I'm sure there are a lot of legal things to get through I'm sure.... I just don't see it happening.

Suspend/resume isn't that big a deal to me. I thought it sounded cool at the reveal but I don't mind not having it. Gives me a chance to grab a beer and stuff

They already made huge updates for streaming. Personally i prefer something else that i use a lot not rarely like the suspend/resume feature. :P

When ps4 released i thought the sleep mode is the suspend/resume lol.

Nope. That is standby, like your TV for instance: a low power mode that can boot faster than cold boot.

Suspend/resume works like the Vita. When you put the console in standby, the game that's running, will be put in suspend mode. So when you turn on the console, you can go continue the game right where you left of. It's as if the game is on pause mode. The Vita already has this and it is just awesome.

Just pic up EXACTLY where you left of, and extremely fast. It's basically like iOS on iPhones/iPads if you still don't understand :)

One big criticism Sony got last generation was too many updates far too frequently. It became a running joke. This time they are clearly more reserved. Now some features are a must but I don't see the delay as a reason to claim Sony are resting on their laurels or have become arrogant. An update will come but thanks to the criticism they got from the last generation these will be larger but less frequent

I hope they fix the share button annoyances soon, I've been killed and bothered in BF4 because it takes so long for the PS4 to let me push square to save the damn 1 minute clip to my hard drive. Sometimes I have to push share then cancel, share, cancel over and over until finally I get the option to save.

I just want to push a button and have it save the last 1 minute without trouble. I do like the share factory and I've made over 20 minutes of compilations from the crazy and funny things in BF4 (even though EA and DICE still disgust me).

Yeah I have the same issues on Watch Dogs. After the first 15 minutes the share button glitches and cuts off. It sucks when I did something awesome and want to go grab it and it's not there. Infamous had some issues too with the share button but not as bad as Watch Dogs.

I hope the reason it's taking so long is because they have to re-work the os so they can introduce more features that were on the ps3. Because there current os has some major organization issues. I have downloaded almost every game that I have gotten so far and it's really cluttered and it looks laggy some times.

It may not seem like an issue to some but leave your PS4 off for a few weeks, come back to it and practically everything has an update. If you've logged in to grab a PSN game then your internet connection is scattered over 10 active downloads and you can't prioritise anything.

Have no fear though, they will release a system update soon that will 'Fix some problems that no one ever experiences'. yay

Im no better than anyone else but I actually thought the PS4 was a gaming device. If you want to listen to mp3...its 2014, dont you guys have an Ipod? I seen one guy complain about how while playing his ps3 he cant see his ps4 friends online. Who cares....you cant play with them anyway. Yes, I agree some new features would be nice on the ps4 but complaining about them or asking for them every other day isnt going to change anything. When the ps3 came out it was pretty bland. It took time to turn it into the beast it is. Give the ps4 some time...its coming. We must let it blow before the wind of change can exist.
