Signs Of The Times - Crytek's Lead R&D Graphics Engineer Moves To id Software, Will Work On New Doom

Crytek has been facing major economic issues and since its staff has not been receiving payments these past months, a lot of it decided to move to other companies. The latest departure is one that surprised us - to say the least - as Tiago Sousa, Lead R&D Graphics Engineer at Crytek who worked on Far Cry and all Crysis games (including all variations of CRYENGINE) has left the company.

Crytek is screwed offically, and Good luck at ID !

ritsuka6663562d ago

What a idiot comment... pff.

Snookies123562d ago

I hope Crytek doesn't go under... I mean, I'm not a big fan of them but it would suck to see them disappear.

On a happier note, Doom sounds like it's going to be amazing... Just pure old-school fun, which is exactly what I was hoping for.

Eonjay3562d ago

So... yeah; Crytek is dead.

johndoe112113562d ago

Yeah, I think that's it for crytek. Crysis 1 will always be one of my favorite PC games. Sorry it had to turn out this way.

Str8Chaos743562d ago

Yep, Crysis is one of my my favorite games also. It's really too bad what has happened to Crytek, so much potential to turn it around. What a waste.

Codey473562d ago

If Crytek die.... the PC platform will lose the most dedicated PC developers.

Tbph, they're the only major dev that actually care about the platform.

-Foxtrot3562d ago

They haven't been dedicated to the PC for years...

Str8Chaos743562d ago

I think that was what contributed to their downfall.

NarooN3562d ago

That's nonsense. Crysis 2 was clearly designed from the ground up to be a console-centric game, hence the constricted level design, move to another boring New York City backdrop (or as Crytek put it, "urban jungle", *rolls eyes*), Call of Duty-style multiplayer, amongst other things.

There are quite a few devs who care about PC as a platform. Stop talking nonsense.

Golden_Mud3562d ago

major dev ? CD Project Red is one of those that are major devs of the PC platform .

Vladplaya3562d ago

Riiiiight, Crysis 2 had no decent PC options till what months later? Crytek been shitting on PC since forever, which is probably one of the reasons why they are gonna go down.

@Codey47

Tbph you're nothing but a console troll that knows little to nothing about PC gaming. The word "Valve" proves your whole post wrong pretty easily.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa130d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno130d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast129d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial129d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!

Hunt: Showdown is getting one of the rarest things a game can get: an engine upgrade

"It is gonna be a long technical road" to update Hunt's version of CryEngine.

MadLad411d ago

Great game.
Smaller, but healthy, player base. At least on PC. Very tense game.

bunt-custardly411d ago

If anyone can upgrade the engine then Crytek can. Good news anyway. Hunt looks pretty awesome anyway, but with UE5 a thing now Cryengine beginning to look dated perhaps?

Eonjay410d ago

It was bound to happen. Let's hope that they can update their engine. As good as UE5 looks, we need multiple engines out there. This will prevent all games from looking too samey.

Looking at DF the last three Graphics of the year have been:

Insomniac engine
Red Engine
Decima Engine

I love seeing different engines flex their muscles.

Concertoine410d ago

I do too, but having a dependable and common engine would go a long way toward fixing development cost and time.
