At a Glance: Red Barrels

Red Barrels is an independent game studio based in Montreal and focused on creating unforgettable single-player games. OUTLAST, the studio's first title, is a true survival-horror experience that aims to show that the most terrifying monsters of all come from the human mind. OUTLAST is currently available for digital download on PC and PS4, and the title's first DLC, OUTLAST: Whistleblower, will be available starting on May 6 on both platforms.

OUTLAST: Whistleblower follows the story of Waylon Park, the software engineer under contract with the Murkoff Corporation who emails journalists around the world - including Miles Upshur - at the beginning of Outlast.

Players meet Waylon a few weeks into his time at Mount Massive, during which he has been unable to even contact his wife and son thanks to strict security protocols. Having developed a deep-seated distrust of the profit-motivated scientists and doctors leading dangerous and irresponsible experiments on their patients, Waylon ends up setting events in motion that lead to the unmasking of Mount Massive's rotten core.

Whistleblower starts the story that led to OUTLAST, and stretches past the events of the first game to show the true final chapter in the story of Mount Massive Asylum.

Day 11 | Red Barrels

Outlast was pretty scary, nailed the atmosphere

XiYakushijuAkeginuXi3574d ago

Yeah the atmosphere was amazing. I especially loved the part when you enter the sewage and the water is all bloody

rdgneoz33574d ago

It can also be hilarious. As in your gf sitting beside you, who does not do well with horror movies or games, is a joy to watch :P

randomass1713571d ago

My cousin and his friends play the game in our basement with all the lights off at night. They say it's quite a thrill ride. I'm squeamish so I don't think I could ever play this game lol. Looks like a lot of fun though.

BiggCMan3574d ago

Definitely an amazing atmosphere in the game, something really hard to pull off with horror games.

Aussie_Spectre3574d ago

Outlast was seriously one of the best Horror games I've ever played, nailed the story and mystery of Mount Massive and had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, well done indeed Red Barrels

love watching people play this

Emilio_Estevez3574d ago

I think I'm more of a watcher than a player on this one as well.

coolbeans3574d ago (Edited 3574d ago )

I'm more of a watcher of those who're watching other people play Outlast. Btw, I give you a *Certified FresH* badge on your new curtains, Emilio. They really bring the house to life in a new way.

I haven't gone through all of Whistleblower yet, but I thought the main game was a solid horror game. There are some annoying issues I have with the design, but it's built around such a great concept.

Emilio_Estevez3574d ago

Idk what you are talking about with drapes cb, b/c I'm creepin' while watching?

Idk why, but I really like watching some games more than playing them. ESO comes to mind as well.

randomass1713571d ago

I'm more of a watcher as well, but probably for different reasons. I'm too scared to play this game. XD

Review - The Epyx Collection: Handheld (Switch) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "I’m not going to say that The Epyx Collection: Handheld is an easy recommendation, but it’s a fantastic opportunity for retro gaming enthusiasts to experience a few hidden gems which had previously only been available on a very obscure, but very underrated portable system. You may think this collection is a waste of time because nobody (aside from me and half a dozen other weirdos) owned a Lynx back in the day, but games like Gates of Zendocon and Blue Lightning are still amazing, more than 35 years later. Absolute classics aren’t the only games that deserve a second chance and preservation on modern systems. Obscure titles you had never even heard of before also deserve some love, and this collection delivers on this aspect."

People need to stop dismissing indies.

Indies have been great over the years.

I'll say late May for Sony. It was rumored it'll be next month as well.
