Playstation's super hardcore strategy RPG: Natural Doctrine

Whether on PS4, PS3, or Vita, you're going to die. A lot.

"No one in your party can die, or it's game over" ??? That's super difficult for any strategy game. WTF. The frustration.

In one of the first dungeons, you can open a door, and behind it is a monster that one-hit kills your party.

Bye-bye, half an hour of progress! (The battles usually take at least that long.)

...Yeah it can get kinda frustrating at times.

i feel like since demon's soul a lot of developers just making games hard only to appeal to certain gamers

most, if not all games during SNES era was made hard to make them longer.

most RPG during PS1 era have little to no handholding you have to actually read the text and guess where to go next instead of a nice convenient little dot in the map to help you.

so if I have to guess it's not since demon's soul era, it's since the beginning of video games history..

man playing games back then felt much more rewarding lol.

I totally agree. RPGs today are too focused on action instead of focusing on the hunt for treasure, weapons, armor, and completing quests. That's why most of the RPGs that came out over the last few years suck.

A few gems have emerged from the pile of poop though;

Dragon's Dogma, Skyrim, Kingdom Of Amalur, Demon Souls, both Dark Souls. There are others, but these are the most noted.

Indeed games today hold your hand too much, but back in the day there was 1 game that you played and never stopped playing till you reached the end, so you knew where to go next. Now you play 2,3,4,5 games during a month and games are much bigger ( in some case ) if you didn't get a dot to know where to go once in a while you would get lost, as I did when I stopped playing Dark Souls II to play Diablo RoS with my buddies for 3 months hehe. It was a bad move I know but I managed and finally found that I could open the gate to the shrine of winter...

I know i been a gamer for 25 years, also its not hand holding if you can still deliver 100 plus hours of content while showing gamers where to go next. My idea of fun isn't to be lost for hours just to prolong a game
