You obviously didn't play PES 2013, was far better than FIFA 13. FIFA 14 on the other hand, was really good.

what are you even talking about ? I've always prefered PES . But in 2013 they ruined the game by messing with content that was already there , and their slow and innefficient patching .

2014 ? They got worse at patching and released a buggy game with even less content .

Fifa is what it is , still flawed , but it's mostly improving instead of devolving .

And regardless , they were , and are hemorrhaging fans with their missteps , lies and poor marketing . So what's the first thing they do instead of showing the game to renew everyone's faith , or maybe try ?

A teaser of a trailer , then the so called trailer is a travesty and mainly another teaser , for yet another promised trailer .

They are not in a place and position to pull those shenanigans .

@Exari, agreed - PES214 was not as good as I was expecting, I didn't even buy PES because the Demo was so poor, stuttering and slow. The only reason I own PES2014 is because it was on PS+ a few months back, still doesn't get much use. Felt really clunky and as if everyone was playing in mud

This year I went with Fifa because the PES demo was so poor, I wasn't risking anything hoping it would improve with the final build. Fifa though hasn't changed much in the last few years. And there's plenty of things that annoy me about it - mainly the passing, it can't decide if I want to do a strong pass to someone, or play a pass the the player further away - and it always does the one I don't want.

ea also shuts down servers to some of their older games and so has sony. sony shut down socom 4, resistance games and even gt5.

While it's their choice to do that I hate when servers go offline. I whish every game would support dedicated servers so that community would exist after the game stopped being supported.

it is to show that this isn't immune to just konami whom so many want to pick on now that what happened to kojima and their new focus into mobile gaming.

And if fifa 17 this year is using the Frostbite 3 engine and showing gameplay improvements making use of the engines benefits (including the referees and goalkeepers, and other realism improvements such as the managers coming out into their box rallying the team on, the fourth referee, net realism, better particle effects in rain, snow or foggy conditions etc) then PES could be on the back burner again.

So, Konami does suck, but let's not pretend shutting down the servers for an out of date yearly sports series is some kind of new evil they thought up all on their own while setting pictures of Hideo Kojima on fire and cackling on a throne of skulls. 2K used to (and they still might for other games) shut down the servers for their MLB games a year after release back when Konami was still kneeling at the altar of Kojima. THQ used to kill the servers for their wrestling games after a few years too.

What I don't understand is how many times did the company need to say they were no longer doing Triple-A games before you guys realized they were no longer doing triple A games?

Lol the shock of Metal Gear Solid 3 being turned into some casino game in this is beyond humorous. Not only was the writing all over the wall the company literally itself was making statements stating very clearly that they had no intentions of supporting high-end expensive games any longer. Kojima is no longer at the company the company is favoring mobile and many other areas how much more things need to happen before people realize what's actually going on?

I believe the company's statements were literally as literal as you possibly could be if people are still in shock over something that was confirmed several months ago by the company itself.

@Ris- even as a huge Metal Gear Solid fan still completely understand that this company cannot afford to continue to make those games and stay in business and it's probably correct for them to bow out of such high end game making if it's going to risk them the entire company.

Well I thought they might at least try to continue with real Metal Gear games since it sells well but I'm glad I was wrong. It's retarded that they do a casino game with MGS3 but I sure as hell prefer that over them making a sequel or a reboot. It's my favorite series but I just want it to be the end.

I still don't completely understand what made you ever think that was going to happen? Metal Gear Solid 5 I stated was literally my game of the year last year it was an amazing title but it did not move enough units to justify a sequel even near the same cost or development time.

Something selling well does not mean the company made a return the only way you know that is if you could see how much they spent on the game in the first place and I believe 5 to 7 million units is not that good when you're factoring the game was available on 5 platforms.

The only retarded thing I found is that no one wants to actually do the hard math and numbers to factor in that those games do not make enough money to continue to support the company.

It's one of my favorite series tp but at least I'm grounded in reality and I'm able to discern the difference between what I personally like and simple business.

simple business tells us that this company could not continue to create games at such a cost because Metal Gear Solid 5 was not moving Assassin's Creed numbers.

Me liking the series is completely irrelevant to the hard real facts surrounding the company.

When regarding business I never post my personal opinions or feelings about a game on whether I like it or not or anything like that because it's biased and irrelevant to the point being made and I'm saying this to one of my all-time favorite series too.

All they're doing is pachislot and mobile games, why wont any of you get that through your skulls? I assume PES is only continuing due to a sports game not having the monumental cost and risk involved. People seem to think AAA games are a golden ticket for japanese devs and publishers when thats super far from the truth, they have other more consistent and risk free avenues for income. Konami isnt going anywhere just dont expect their name on any game boxes.

MG might be my all time favorite video game IP's, but one must be able to discern from what one personally likes and business. Many on here LOVE posting with so much emotion, they fail to realize that isn't what funds games.

MGSV imho was the best game to release last year, on many platforms, crazy amount of detail and replayablity, yet couldn't out sell a normal Assassins Creed on 3 platforms, yet MGSV was on 5...

That is extremely telling about the situation the publisher is faced with. They likely made enough to cover their loans on the development, but not enough to actually produce another one.....on LESS platforms. That I fully 100% understand based on that I'm not thinking of this as some die hard fanboy, I thinking of this as objectively as I can and as unbiased as I can.

I don't see a reason for them truly to ever make another one without a lower budget and a huge overhaul.

They're making a killing with those crazy pachinko casino machine things in Japan. They're NOT shooting themselves in the foot, they're increasing profits. They couldn't remain competitive (and/or it's too expensive) in critical markets with traditional gaming, so they make these ski-ball slash pin-ball slash kiddy ball pit slash slot machine things for unhinged japanese people that love to chain smoke. They use their game IP ownerships on these things, too, and the japanese are eating it up.

I feel like in terms of the public's perception of them, they have shot their foot off. They have turned into one of the most hated gaming companies today. Sure, creating more profits is fine and all, but look what is happening because of their aggressive pursuit of more money. they are shutting down servers for games that aren't even that old, and throwing their legacy under the bus. I'm not too familiar with what's happening at konami, but with the cancellation of P.T and breaking Kojima productions down, i feel like they hit some financial problems and are now over correcting. It's just a shame, that's all.

That isn't happening "because" that is happening because it is actually what they need to do to get more money in the first place.

Versus what? Going out of business? Would it be "kool" for them to just go out of business just to sound "boss" ? This is a move they must take to even remain a company and I can't say I honestly disagree with them. If its not working , they might as well figure it out now. MOST companies didn't get to do that, they simply went under and it was too late.

At least doing this we get a fighting chance that their IPs can be come profitable again someday. Who knows, they might outsource Kojima or another team to handle some of their IPs or they might sell them outright if this transition is permanent.

Who knows. As a person that owns a small business and aids other small businesses, I honestly can't disagree with the moves they are making right now. Even as a hardcore MG fan, I put those feelings aside and try to look at the bigger picture.

They do other less risking ventures that give them larger returns.

None of the other projects they got going is going to cost them like 80 million so I'm sure they will be fine. If anything, they would "shoot themselves in the foot" by continuing what they were doing.

They are like Kleptic said, increasing profits based on they don't have this high overhead that AAA gaming cost them. If they can't continue this, they are right to change plans to keep the company afloat, not go FULL YOLO and keep making AAA games.

If you want to understand it, look up Japanese gaming, look up Capcom last gen at the moves they made, look up Konami's, look up the rumored price of MGSV's development, look at it sales.

If you really, really want to get why this is happening, start actually reading up on what is going on. How can you question why they are doing this, yet not research whats going on at the company?

Gaming is not about being liked. Sure, some hate that they got rid of Kojima, took his name off the box etc, but at the end of the day, they are leaving gaming. They could care less as how will that translate into lost money in a industry they are slowly bowing out of?

Sucks sure, but not sure its relevant to them as a business. If MGSVI was to release under Kojima and Konami was to publish, pretty sure 99% would not care THAT much about how Konami was during MGSV. MOST are not buying games based on this.

I sure know I don't buy games based on a publisher or any drama surrounding them.

Still not a fan of Konami but if not many playing PES 2015 then why not shut it done. Sony did the same with The Show every year. I still have The Show 2015 and most nights there's less than 20 people online now. It cost money to run the servers. I mean most people would usually move on to the next game by now.
