10 Greatest Talkative Gaming Villains

WC writes: Things were much easier for heroes back in the day. Video game villains of years gone by would show up fleetingly in the introduction, normally to kidnap the nearest damsel, and then swagger back to their Secret Lair until the final showdown. Today’s evil-doers, on the other hand, just can’t help themselves — they provide a constant commentary on the protagonist’s progress, dispensing taunts and insults like your earpiece is their personal Twitter feed.

Sometimes this can be downright annoying, but there are villains whose barbs are so biting, their put-downs so perfectly delivered, that it’s an absolute pleasure to be goaded by them. Along the way they give us insights into their point of view and remind us of just why they should be hated, feared or throttled at the earliest opportunity.

Here are ten of the greatest examples of villains who just couldn’t keep their mouths shut.

Just looking at that Shodan picture makes me want to play System Shock 2 again. For the twentieth time.

Sideras3592d ago

Do it! It's not like it's getting old, I mean it feels fresher than most crap we get today.

Still dreaming of a System Shock 3 reveal, just a black screen with Shodans voice and a title reveal, aah, that would be enough.

'Still dreaming of a System Shock 3 reveal'

Oh if only. I know Bioshock was the spiritual successor to the System Shock games, and it's been a great franchise, but like you I'm wishing for a sequel to the SS games.

With the tech they have now they could make it absolutely amazing.

Let's keep those fingers crossed aye.

Personally i would've had Saren/Sovereign from ME 1 on the list, but still a cool read.

porkChop3592d ago

Saren definitely deserves a spot on the list. He had an element of humanity to him. You could understand why he was doing the things he was, and even sympathize with him. And his voice acting was top notch with some really great lines.

This list could be better...

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia7d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie6d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

Profchaos6d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie6d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh6d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.

Didn't the creator write it? It also made a fortune based on the budget so from a business standpoint it is a massive success.
