Nearly 30 Exclusives Still To Come For Wii U In 2014

With Mario Kart 8's recent release a couple of weeks ago, a lot of people are picking up a Wii U console along with the game and if you're one such person, you might be wondering, what other exclusive games will be coming out this year for Nintendo's first HD system? Well there's nearly 30 true exclusives set to come to the console by the end of the year and nearly 30 more that are console exclusive.

Even though the third-party front is lacking; that's pretty darn awesome. I guess it really is going to be the next Gamecube; which isn't a bad thing because that thing had some amazing games.

randomass1713592d ago

That there sure is a lot of games... glad I got my Wii U when I did.

vishmarx3592d ago

@randomass171

youd be better off with a smartphone if youre 'glad' at this

randomass1713592d ago (Edited 3592d ago )

Why did you put quotes around glad as if I said that about the list and not my console? Anyway, my mother has a smartphone, on which she asked me to find some good games for her since I'm the most game-savvy person in my family. We found literally one game she liked that wasn't buggy as crap and it was a Jurassic Park sim/Farmville clone.

Thanks for the list though. I'll be sure to check these out and see which ones I'd like to get on Wii U. By the way, it looks like you forgot to add the two Oddworld remakes and AVGN Adventures. I think a few Kickstarter games may be missing from here as well.

guitarded773592d ago

Honestly, I'm probably just getting SSB before the years end. But that's why I have a Wii U... for Nintendo exclusives.

I didn't really care for Bayonetta, so if I do get it, it will be when it hits the $20 mark. I never dug Dynasty Warriors, so Hyrule Legends is a skip. Captain Toad and 90's Arcade Racer have me interested though. I'll wait and see what they turn out like.

As long as I get my Zelda in 2015, I won't complain. I have plenty of other games across platforms to play.

Gamer19823592d ago

Amazing list? Are you serious?? Most of them games wont sell over 100k worldwide.. In fact probably 3 of them will.. Compared to Sony and MS exclusives which will sell over a million. Theres about 4-5 games in that whole list that will sell over 100k... You can have exclusives but when its shovelware do we as gamers really care?? The Wii had a crap ton of small non 1st party exclusives too but I think we should look back and see how great they were..

ExiledBlitz3592d ago

My 2014 must haves on Wii U are:

Bayonetta 2
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Hyrule Warriors
Super Smash Bros
A Hat in Time
Guacamelee
Q.U.B.E.
Wooden Sen’SeY

And Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD if they haven't abandoned it. I really hope they haven't. I haven't had a chance to play it yet and my 360 just red ringed so I'm kind of banking on that Wii U port.

gamesaga3592d ago

@randomass171: Thanks for the feedback. AVGN was not included because it does not have an actual release date thus far (as far as I know). It would be in the list of Nintendo/console exclusives I believe, since it's coming to 3DS & PC as well, at least according to GameFAQs.

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee - New 'n' Tasty and Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD are both multi-platform releases I believe, so they wouldn't be included on this list. New 'n' Tasty appears to be a timed exclusive on PlayStation systems while Stranger's Wrath HD has been a thus far Sony exclusive/console exclusive (for the HD version), though a Wii U version is in the works supposedly.

I'll have to look into the Kickstarter ones and see if any of them have planned release dates for this year. Of course Kickstarter being what it is, it does not mean that they will actually be released this year (or at all), depending on how the funding goes.

seraphym883592d ago

As of right now, most of these games are just names to me, and most others. Furthermore, both PS4 and XB1, while having more 3rd party support, have upcoming games lists FILLED with little indie games. Why hate on Nintendo because they are getting a lot of exclusive indies? Personally, i can say i have over 10 indie games on my Wii U, so im SURE ill end up getting some of these.

Xof3592d ago

It's a big list, but I'd hardly call it amazing. I see 2 games I'm excited about, and 2 more I'm vaguely interested in.

Maybe it just looks amazing in comparison to the paltry offerings on the other new consoles?

vishmarx3592d ago (Edited 3592d ago )

@xof
its bloody sarcasm for gods sake,
no wonder i got so many agrees(those that i wasnt supposed to,being nintedo news.)
the list is terrible.filled with bs titles that no one even knows about.
only 3 games are known to people ,out of these
30 exclusives doesnt mean squat if you have to pay $300 for this shit.
you can find thousands of similar games on a phone

i dont understand how wii u fans can stand not getting stuff like witcher, dragon age mgs,far cry,
how can you stand the fact that the only games worth playing on it are the few ones that nintendo makes themselves,eh

I was just on gamestop checking out games coming to ps4/xbox one and i was so disappointed how little we are getting this fall

next gen experience really starts at 2015

Dunban673592d ago

Wow - using this criteria the Ps4 and xb1 have hundreds of exclusives every month and don t even think about mobile gaming ...... Thousands of exclusives- why wright an article about a console w 30 exclusives if there are several consoles w 100 s ?

gamesaga3592d ago

Because some people might want to know what games they can only get on one specific system? And what consoles get hundreds of exclusives in one month? I highly doubt that. And what criteria are you talking about? Exclusive means it is planned to only be released on that system (though sometimes we do see exclusives changed, Resident Evil 4 being a good example of this). It's not a term we created, but rather the industry itself did.

Dunban673592d ago

In my experience reading game sites like N4G and others, when people say "exclusive". They are talking about Exclusive retail releases - list like this are mostly exclusive Indy titles - the title of the article is misleading -

I own a Wii u and only a Wii u ( re home console) , putting Mario Kart or Smash bros in the same category as a $3 eshop game is a little disingenuous

gamesaga3592d ago

Fair enough, I see your point with that, though I don't necessarily agree with your opinion of what exclusive means. But that's okay, you're entitled to your opinion and I am as well. I would prefer there to be more retail releases as well, but unfortunately a lot of publishers are holding back just about everything until next year as we've seen with E3 and before that with all of the delays.

And while it's true not many indie games well sell the same kind of volume of a Mario Kart or the like, there are many indie games that have their fans and followings and some would say are just as fun as "AAA titles." But again those are just opinions.

Perhaps you don't like indie games, I don't know, but some do and the list is not intended to be geared towards one specific type of person, but rather to include every thing and show what games are scheduled to be released on Wii U only (or Wii U & PC only for console exclusives) by the end of the year. Any other interpretation of the list is up to the individual and nothing more is implied by the list itself. If there were zero indie games exclusive to Wii U still to be released this year, then they would not be included. If there zero retail exclusives still to be released this year, then they would not be included. A list is just that, a list. I never said any one game on the list is better than any of the others. But if your opinion is that some are better than others, well that's fine and you're free to express said opinion.

TL;DR: Opinions are opinions, not facts. If you don't like the games on the list, that's fine. Not every game can please every person. Just don't seemingly imply that a listing of games is meant to consider two different games as being equals. Because a lot of the time the only thing they have in common is that they are both games.

Dunban673592d ago

Well said - I do buy Indy games - not a ton but I do buy and play them - Many of the Indy games on the list I know little or nothing about so far so I'll hold judgement on them - I do enjoy reading up on new Indy games as they are released

IMO the Indy s are becoming one of the strong points for the wiiu but I think they typically provide a dif type of gameplay on a dif scale - even though Child of Light was by Ubisoft, it was a great eshop game and totally dif experience than ACIV- I liked both -

I ve seen some people say Indy games are " 3 rd party " games and technically they are but typically mention of a console having or not having 3rd party support Does not include most Indy games IMO

Shovel Knight looks cool, gonna look into it

LOL_WUT3592d ago

Yea it looks great I'll be checking it out too ;)

Grilla3592d ago

I'll be getting Captain Toad. Hyrule Warriors - I'll wait for reviews, has to be better then Dynasty Warriors. Not sure about Super Smash, never been a fan of fighting games. Local multiplayer sounds like it might be fun.

Does anyone know if Super Smash is split screen in multiplayer. I hate split screen.

mydyingparadiselost3592d ago

It's not, you fight with all the characters on screen, no spilt screen. Check out the Smash Bros tournament on YouTube if you want to actually see it.

kodiak404_3592d ago

"Does anyone know if Super Smash is split screen in multiplayer. I hate split screen."

Are you saying you've never experienced a single super smash bros game?! =O The things I would do to experience a smash bros on the n64 or gamecube for the first time all over again.

Grilla3592d ago

Seriously, I've never played Super Smash, even though I owned both the N64 and the Gamecube.

@SheriffCrazy @kodiak404_

I guess its time to give it a try.

SheriffCrazy3592d ago

WHAT! Never experienced Smash Bros! Where have you been. This has got to be a joke. If not your in for an amazing treat. I remember the first time I played Smash for the N64 like 14 years ago (has it been longer?) It was great!

Mikito113592d ago

To answer your question, no it doesn't use split screen, check out the latest footage on youtube to see how it plays if you never tried it before :)

Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule warrior!

MSBAUSTX3592d ago

That list is cool but maybe ONE Indie game appeals to me per year. Captain toad, Smash, Bayonetta, Hyrule Warriors, X, Yoshis wooly world, And Zelda U are the only titles i am interested in. That is actually a lot of games, but i like shooters and more adult third person action games like, lost planet, dead space, GTA, and Tomb Raider. Without titles like those, more than just Bayonetta, I will always be forced to purchase an XB1 or PS4 to play games like that. I am a Nintendo fan first, but it would be nice if they could keep up the third party titles i got to enjoy when this system launched like the CODs, Zombii U, Batman, and Assassins Creed. I want more of a reason own only my Wii U. But like i said i will always support them, just stating my wishes.

thehobbyist3592d ago

If you're looking for any interesting indies this year, Hyper Light Drifter and Shovel Knight seem to be the best Wii U will have to offer.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

gold_drake7d ago

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on
