Kamiya "Lived" at Platinum's Office for Part of the Wonderful 101's Development

"According to a recent tweet from Hideki Kamiya, the director behind The Wonderful 101, Kamiya “lived” at Platinum’s office for about 4 months of the game’s development. Kamiya said that he slept overnight in a sleeping bag after working all day — quite a bit of dedication for a developer trying to get his game out" -- Nintendo Enthusiast.

Too bad Nintendo didn't give to TW101 the credit that it deserved.

randomass1713592d ago (Edited 3592d ago )

Didn't they give it its own Nintendo Direct?

edit: True, not a lot of people bought it which is very unfortunate. Though to be fair, not a lot of Platinum's games sold a lot up until Metal Gear Rising.

Metallox3592d ago

Not many people bought it...

Concertoine3592d ago (Edited 3592d ago )

Yeah but that direct cost Nintendo nothing to make. They needed to put it in magazines, make commercials, etc.

Not that it would've helped too much, this is an extremely odd game. It looks like a kid's game but is rated T, it looks accessible but is very complex... it really was sort of doomed from the start.

If the year was 1988 and this was a NES game i could see it resulting in a TV spin off, tons of merch and a few sequels. But today is not 1988.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3592d ago

It got it's own Direct.
It included in Mario Kart 8 Europe and Japan promotion
It included in Super Smash Bros. currently Wonder-Red as a Trophy but doesn't deconfirm him playable.

deafdani3592d ago

Please. You know that the amount of coverage, marketing and hype this game received from Nintendo absolutely pales in comparison to what other games got, like Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Wind Waker HD, Mario 3D World and now Mario Kart 8.

And before you call me out as a hater, know this: The Wonderful 101 is my favorite game, EVER.

That's exactly why it makes me sad to see that Nintendo didn't give W101 the attention it deserved. Maybe it could've gotten better sales if they put it a bit more in the spotlight.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory3592d ago

@deafdani

Uh it called established franchise vs new

Regardless Kamiya wants to make a sequel not only that a spinoff as well for 3DS.

They game was a success. It was never suppose to sell million. Nintendo doesn't work like that. Nintendo doesn't expect every title to sell huge. What they expect is to put smile on people faces and give them quality titles.

Concertoine3592d ago

The game was a success?! It was the most expensive title Platinum has ever developed and also their worst selling ever. It has only recently broke 200k... that is HORRIBLE.

ritsuka6663592d ago

Agree. Nintendo don't market this game too much.

wonderfulmonkeyman3592d ago

Nintendo?
Please.
Nintendo should have advertised it more, tis true, but that's not the root cause of its troubles.
It's the gaming public that didn't give it the credit it deserved.
So many core gamers skipped it just because of its art style and the fact that it came out on the wii u.
It's a crying damned shame that there are so many shallow gamers out there who would dismiss such an excellent action title for such ridiculous reasons...

That's what i call dedication.

I love Kamiya. Easily one of the most passionate and outspoken devs in the business. Some say this dude is hit or miss, but he's never mad a bad game imo. All of his games are super entertaining and feature addicting gameplay.

randomass1713592d ago

The only thing I want to know is how he seems to know everyone's mom...

Imalwaysright3592d ago (Edited 3592d ago )

He is easily one of the most talented devs. RE2, Okami, DMC, Viewtiful Joe, Bayonetta... This guy is a legend in the industry.

wonderfulmonkeyman3592d ago (Edited 3592d ago )

Agreed. I still own and love bay 1 and Vanquish, and I'm still playing and loving tw101.
I wish he'd do a vanquish sequel for wii u, actually.XD

Dunban673592d ago

I bet MSFT markets the game he is doing for them a heck of a lot more and much better than Nintendo marketed W101

They really did a poor job as they made little effort and spent little money pushing the game
