Honestly being the seasoned gamer that I am, I am not all that interested in the VR tech. I remember back in the late 80's early 90's it was a big thing, but playing games for that long period of time while wearing a head piece such as the oculus could bring some headaches. Unless it is comfortable for a long time whats up. See what happens, good job on the post.

I've used that latest Oculus DK2, Project Morpheus and even a few other VR augments like the Omni, and it really seems like a tech that works well in short bursts. 20-60 minutes rather than 40 hours of a typical AAA game.

Exactly what I think. Unless they can make it into something like the Google Glass. I wouldn't be using it for a 'gaming session'. Sure, its great for exploring a beautiful game in 3D but, thats just about it.

I have yet to try out any VR tech, but I'm pretty anxious to do so. I like the idea of VR, but without some sort of hands on test it's going to be hard for me to shell out the $300+.

Personally, I've never tried the Oculus. Every reviewer makes it seem so brilliant. Still, how the heck can someone use it for hours?

This is a good question and I always answer the same. Sure VR is fantastic, but at this point it's only a novelty. I don't see VR becoming the focal point of people's living rooms anytime in this generation. That being said, I can't wait to get my hands on one. :)

I really hope all the success in the world for all the vr tech, we need a shake up in the games industry and this will be it if it works.

I mean first you would have to define a success and that is different depending on who you are asking.

The most likely genres where VR will work is racing, flying, space operas because of the fixed character position and peripherals. For anything that allows free movement of the character it's less practical because nobody will put one of those 360 degrees things in their home where you need to actually walk and sitting on a couch playing a first or third person shooter with a controller and VR isn't that great since it disconnects the player from what VR tries to achieve. For racing games, flight sims or space operas it's easy to keep the player in that world when they use a wheel or a joystick combined with the VR.

Will it be a success? In Facebook updates and advertising yes. In games...not so much. Candy crush will be a hit I suppose. Facebook. How you ruin everything.

You don't like the fact that they are hiring more people, researching better/newer options, cheaper hardware, and first party games? I guess we have different tastes.

Have facebook even announced what their going to do with it?
I'm concerned as much as the next person on what they might do, but at this stage the tech is still being developed and the more money getting poured into it, the better chance of better tech, hopefully at a better price.

As long as the tech is there, there will be people wanting to make the software, and that doesn't have to be Facebook alone making that.
