Destiny might be this year's finest game

"We played the Destiny Alpha for the past few days, and we decided that our experience it’s worth sharing with you. Here you have a few thoughts from GotGame’s team"

WeAreLegion3594d ago

Well, since Arkham Knight was pushed into 2015, I imagine Destiny will scoop up all the GOTY awards.

christian hour3594d ago

If I hadn't played the alpha I would have laughed at this statement. The more I'd seen relased officially from bungie the more it seemed like Halo.

After playing the Alpha for a few hours over the weekend, I can safely say this is one of my most anticipated games for the year and one of the most unique experiences I've had with an FPS in a long long time, I'd completely gone off the genre in recent years.

GarrusVakarian3594d ago (Edited 3594d ago )

The amount of people ive seen say that they thought the game looked pretty meh up until playing the alpha for themselves is amazing. It's 108'd so many peoples opinions of the game.

I pretty much already knew i was going to like it due to it being a sci-fi shooter, but i didn't think i would enjoy it as much as i did. It's not MMO enough to put me off (im not a fan of MMO's), but it's not just another FPS either. It's the best of both worlds.

I said i would wait until the beta releases until i decide whether or not to keep my pre-order on, but im keeping it on after playing the alpha. I can't wait to explore some of the other areas and other planets with friends. Knowing that the alpha had less than 10% of the content of the final game is crazy!

Mega243594d ago (Edited 3594d ago )

I moved away from the fps scene like 2 years ago, then bought BF4 because I couldn't resist.... Biggest mistake lol, been playing WoW for 6 years, and thought I should move on from MMO's... then bungie throws the perfect combination of FPS/MMO'ish gameplay. I really loved the alpha, getting ready for the beta, love the exploration aspect I spent a full day just exploring!

Arkardo3594d ago

I concurr totally.

I wasn't excited about this game, I've never been a fan of halo not my type of game, I get bored in 10 minutes with Borderlands and I swear I tried.

When I get my Alpha code and taste the game for first time I can say for sure it blow me away.

The exploration it's so beautiful and fun, suspenseful, kind of hard for people not used to FPS, gameplay feels just right on, the inmersión and communication with other people.

I see so much hidden potential in this game that is terrifying.

christian hour3594d ago (Edited 3594d ago )

I've prepared a middle finger for all my friends who want to dive in to the crucible upon release (big COD/BF heads). No thanks guys, I'm off to explore the planets, have fun playing halo PVP like you have been for the last 12 or so years :P

Not to say the crucible isn't fun or entertaining, jsut personally I can't play much PVP in games anymore, co-operation and exploration do a lot more for me at the end of the day. Thats why I still play minecraft on pc or 360 as often as I can :)

Another thign that blew me away was, for a cross-gen game, its the first next gen game i've played that has had real time shadows on almost everything, and nearly everythign reflects in water, other players and npcs etc. Fantastic sound design too with the proximity chat!

I really hope they add an option for proximity chat outside of fireteams, so many times i've run in to other players in the wild and followed em around helping out, but because proximity chat is isolated to fireteams, and joining a fireteam means reloading the level, it felt like they really missed out on something there.

And sure there will be annoying kids ruining that for everyone, adn thats a good reason to have it turned off, but at least give us the option to turn it on/off and make it easy to mute players. This, for me, would make the game a much bigger social experience and a lot more enjoyable.

I still remember some of the post game chats I've had with people i was matched up against in halo 2 on XBL back in the day, would love to sit down and chat with other destiny players in the wild

Dolf0453594d ago

Bungie really do have something special on their hands here. I played the alpha more than I would some full game releases and fun withdrawal is starting to kick in now that it's been cut off! And that was with under 10% content. The map in the alpha had 3 lonely icons, the map of Venus in the most recent vid released by Bungie has many many MANY more.

UnHoly_One3594d ago

I keep hearing people say this, but I had the opposite reaction.

I was excited about the game, but then I played the Alpha and thought it was one of the most boring and bland games I've ever played.

It completely turned me off on the game, and now I'm just going to pass on it completely, unless a bunch of my friends get it and talk me into it for co-op.

ginsunuva3594d ago

"Unique experiences"

This is 100% Halo slapped onto Borderlands with Mass Effect characters.
I feel like I've played this game many times before. So derived, soulless, and unoriginal.

christian hour3594d ago (Edited 3594d ago )

@ginsunuva

you do realise that everything is the sum of its influences or environment? People, animals, bacteria, music, movies, books, video games you name it, anything "new" is a mix of what came before it and ultimately influenced it.

Mass effect. borderlands and halo are all games that were a mish mash of influential games that came before it. The sooner you realise this the sooner you'll stop dismissing games for being too much like X game crossed with X game, and start to enjoy it for what it is, the better time you'll have with games as a whole. Theres such a thing as a blatant rip off, and then theres such things as being heavily influenced, and they're extremely far apart.

I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the Destiny alpha, but to each their own, I'm sure you'll have plenty of good games coming your way to fill the gap, happy gaming brother :)

KAEM73594d ago

Could be... Destiny for sure has a good window to grab some massive sales as well.

XiSasukeUchiha3594d ago

Same here the feeling is strong with this one!

Drithe3594d ago

I am gonna skip the beta testing. I don't think I can wait another 2 months for the game to come out and not play it. Gonna take me a few months to get over the awesomeness of the alpha version.

christian hour3594d ago

I woke up this morning, realised the alpha was no longer open, then didnt want to get out of bed haha.

I was gonna skip the beta to avoid the blues the alpha has left me with but my friend is getting the beta so it will be very tempting (my console is his primary, his console is my primary ;) ) Digital Game sharing is the best thing ever btw. I have 28 ps4 games and counting now thanks to that :)

Mr-Dude3594d ago

Yep, doing this also with my buddy!

I started the Alpha this morning (had a day off) but then... Servers disconnected :-(

MMO's are not my thing, but Destiny knows how to perfect blend the MMO and FPS genre together.
I can't wait till the beta!

christian hour3594d ago

A lot can change in 8 hours... I just pre-ordered it... I'm going in to the beta knowing full well it will break my heart. Pfft, humans are a pathetic bunch.

Jeff2573594d ago

I loved my time with the Alpha. I will also be in the beta because I want to make sure Bungie has the data they need to make sure the full release is working well. Granted I will have to go through wanting to play more and unable to between the time the beta ends and the game releases but it will be worth it. I also think that this will be the must have game for the holiday season and will also gain the majority of the GOTY awards.

Visualift3594d ago

Outside of some X1/PS4 exclusives this is really the only game with mass appeal across both platforms this fall. It should lockup GOTY for certain. The Alpha has been amazing.

Clown_Syndr0me3594d ago

I think it will be the best new IP for sure. Whether or not it will be the best/most popular game only time will tell.

Destiny Made Over $160 Million In Microtransaction Revenue In Less Than 2 Years

Destiny has made over $160 million in MTX revenue, and these numbers only account the data from late 2017 to early 2019.

Sgt_Slaughter326d ago

That's extremely low for microtransactions, especially for a game that's essentially designed around it

LucasRuinedChildhood326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

This was back when the game wasn't free to play.

The figures are from November 2017 to February 2019 (1 year and 4 months).

Based on that projection, the MTX revenue for Destiny 2 likely would have been closer to ~$240m for 2 years.

Not sure if premium expansions are included in that figure either although ... I'd hope that they are though and that most of the revenue was for actual content like Forsaken.

People spend way too much money on cosmetics.

Rude-ro326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

Seasons($10 and just got bumped to $12) and dungeon keys($10 each, two a year) are through the eververse(micro transaction) store.
So for those two years, in order to play a season, you would pay through micro transactions.

Sonic1881326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

Bungie Marathon will be worse since it's designed around it as well

Kurt Russell325d ago

It makes me sad to agree... but at the same time I am looking forward to giving it a go. Destiny 2 is so far in, I find it difficult to figure out what I am meant to do first.

buffig326d ago

I think FIFA alone makes over $1bn a year from mtx

anast326d ago

FIFA promotes a worldwide sport. It should make more money than destiny.

CantThinkOfAUsername326d ago (Edited 326d ago )

Let's compare something similar. Apex Legends and its ridiculous $18/$40 skins make EA a billion each year.

z2g326d ago

For as much as ppl complain how much they hate microtransactions, they sure don’t act like it. No wonder they aren’t going anywhere.

spicelicka326d ago

By "people" you're referring to millions and millions of people. Obviously the ones complaining aren't necessarily the same as the ones spending all that money.

There's millions that purchase MTX and there's nothing we can do about it

I've been thinking about playing through D1 again before it goes away...

CobraKai477d ago

That’s the sad reality of a game like this. I bought it, invested lots of money, and it can go away at anytime. I still think this was more fun than 2.

jeromeface476d ago

prob because 2 is a grindfest slog

spoonard473d ago

That's the bummer of 'games as a service'.
