Oculus’ Palmer Luckey calls 30 FPS a failure

Palmer Luckey has fighting words when it comes to performance goals for games on the Oculus Rift.

He's talking about VR and he is absolutely right: 30fps is not sufficient for VR. It's much much worse than playing a game on a traditional display at 30fps. The doubling of latency alone makes it a no-go.

I don't get headaches and I can still enjoy a game at 30fps just fine, but 60fps is definitely so much better. 60fps gives you more fluid visuals with better temporal resolution, along with much better controller response.

Most racing games on consoles have been 30 fps historically . It's a few franchises after f zero X that have been 60 fps .

And 30fps can be fine for a SP experience , dépends on the game and what it offers as a trade off .

Other than that , i agree that , it's a must for core fighting games .

so is it 60 fps per eye? seem's like it has to do dual output. Or maybe its just a dbl image, and not really rendering 2x, anyone know for sure?

Its not 60 per eye. You are thinking of active shutter 3d technology. The rift is different. One screen with two slightly different images side by side. The DK2 Rift runs at 75hz. The Consumer Version Rift is rumored at 90hz.

So what is this slight difference in image for each eye? Is it just a different output setting on each screen, or is it rendered different?

The slight difference is the image on the right or left is slightly off by a few degrees. Just like how your eyes see depth in real life. Follow me?
