How Microsoft convinced Me to buy a Xbox One

"As a Playstation gamer, I went into the Microsoft E3 conference very skeptical.

Last year, Microsoft didn’t show me a reason to buy an Xbox One. They have been outsold by the Playstation 4 since Microsoft released the Xbox One. What they needed to do was drop price, which they already did, and give me some games that can only be played on Xbox One, and they mostly succeeded.They led off with games that will be released this year and only showed games the entire show. There was no talk of Kinect or entertainment apps this year, only games. This is exactly what the problem was with last year’s conference and they course corrected to what the gamers what, just the games. Call of Duty, Forza, Evolve, Dragon Age, Sunset Overdrive, Fable Legends, Project Spark, and Halo: Master Chief Collection, all coming to Xbox One this year either exclusively or with exclusive content."

I agree. While there was some cool stuff like sunset overdrive which looks really awesome and the halo anniversary looks great too along with halo 5, everything else I want is multiplat. There aren't any other interesting exclusives imo. Quantum break I'm still not sold on (dont know if there was new footage shown, didn't see the whole show) and never been a fan of crackdown so other than that I'm happy with where I'm at. Looking forward to what Sony has to bring.

It was all in the delivery. I know it lacked triple A new IP's, but their conference was delivered very convincingly. Best conference (performance wise) in E3 history.

I thought Ori looked really intersting though.

Scalebound could be good also. And I'm sure crackdown fans will like the new crackdown. Same for Fable Legends.

What I'm liking so far is how good games are starting look now that they aren't cross gen. Cod looked about as good as Shadowfall does.

Sunset Over Drive is new, Quantum Break is new, Platinum Games is new, Crackdown as been gone for 4 years so that'll feel new, Phantom Dust has been gone forever so that's new. Plus some of those indies are new.

I was buying all the consoles to begin with, and the XBO is the only one I don't have right now.

Their E3 conference was a good showing, but IMO it was really for everyone who's already an Xbox 360 fan. It's nice to see that they're serious about games, but for 2014 there are only 2 games I really want (Sunset, and Master Chief), and maybe 2 more that I would think about getting (Forza, and Project Spark).

What they proved to me is that I need an XBO around 2015, when those 4 games are already out, with games like Quantum Break, Scalebound, Halo 5, Crackdown, and Gears on the way.

If there's a good deal on the XBO this holiday it's mine, otherwise I can wait until 2015, because most of the games I want to play for 2014 are multiplat, and my PC and PS4 are more than enough to get me through them.

That doesn't take away from the fact that MS had a great show. It wasn't mindblowing, but it was still a really good showing.

They have no choice but to show games, and more games even if they are just CGI teasers.

They know that no one care's about Kinect, nor the TV TV TV, Cable, the power of the cloud, "10% more power" etc and tried to avoid all their "vision of the future" BS.

They played it safe and did not show any confidence.

I think this year MS E3 conference was much better than E3 2013 which was an absolute disaster so anything compared to last year would have been better.

Positive thing is that they showed games and that's exactly what you need BUT, what I noticed that they showed a number of third party software and not a lot of exclusives. Who knows what Sony are going to show tonight but I don't think that MS has put a show that will put Sony in a difficult position.

A good thing is that they didn't talk about TV or Kinect. They talked about games and THAT Is what is needed for the good of the industry and gamers of course.

I admit the show was non stop games. Half the show was games coming out this year. Phantom Dust is what makes me want to buy an X1. That was the highlight of the show for me.

Most of those were either known about already or everyone knew they were coming eventually. There was very little new stuff to be seen, and CGI doesn't have nearly the same impact as gameplay or even in-engine cutscenes.

Remember, some of those games were shown early supposedly to make room for exciting new stuff.

Your list consists of 5 Halo games, a CG trailer for Phantom Dust (which means you're hyping something you have no info on). A CG trailer for Scalebound (which means you're hyping something you have no info on), a piece of DLC, and a CG trailer for Crackdown (which means you're hyping something you have no info on).

Project Spark doesn't even register cuz it's a UGC "game."

They didn't show anything of substance in terms of exclusives outside of Sunset Overdrive.

Phantom Dust, Scalebound, and Crackdown could all be phenomenal games but as of right now, zero gameplay.

You guys should be experienced enough not to get hyped over a CG trailer.

Personally i was hoping for a few Megaton announcements. It let me down a few times like opening up with the yearly CoD sprinkled with timed exclusive dlc. Followed by 4 multiplats!!! And like others have said too much cgi. I gotta give them props though, Phil said games and we got? Games. No Tv bs. No excuses or PR bumbling. The man kept his word. All in all it was a pretty decent show in my honest opinion.

I'm kinda shocked because The Master Chief collection seems like the highlight for most people. The HD collection was the highlight... Like i said it was NOT a bad show, and i'm definitely considering an Xbone now but it isn't a must-have for me yet.

You raise a good point, but better graphics, better resolution, better frame rate and dedicated servers for a smoother online experience makes it a worthwhile purchase for fans, especially as the games are great. I'm sure many will love to replay Halo 2's multiplayer with a fresh lick of paint.

Why would you order a console when you can just go buy it. I would never order a console online, unless that was the only way to get it. It was a strong showing, not exceptional, but strong. I think MSFT did it's job this E3, because they managed to have a show without much Halo 5, no Quantum Break, and no Gears. Plus 3 solid exclusives coming in September, October, and November. That Halo Collection is EXCEPTIONAL for $60.

Looking at your flip-flopping and excuses, I'm always left wondering what your excuse will be tomorrow. Amazon's best-seller and wish-lists have been consistent and representative of the current gulf in sales between the two consoles for months. Nothing has really changed there.

This was a pretty underwhelming conference, especially when you were continually going on about DX12, cloud and talk of MS "going NUCLEAR" with games, games, games that would ensure their "win". Honestly, what happened to that? Bet you didn't expect 90% of the games to be multiplatform, did you? If they took out all the multiplats, their conference would've been close to 30 minutes long.

The Master Chief Collection is superb value though.

The thing is, if we were all blind delusional fanboys, we'd all be calling Microsoft's conference trash. But it simply wasn't.

It was a GOOD conference that leaned far, far too heavily on multiplatform titles and was nothing like it was hyped up to be. Still, it shows that they are heading in a good direction - not a strong enough of a showing to push them past PS4 at any rate, but they'll do just fine since they are putting the majority of their cards on Halo.

That fear is the reality you refuse to believe. The conference was ok at best and thats still being nice. I called it long ago when I made the joke about Halo socks and shows. Recooked Halo games and one Platinum game is all they have to offer after backing out on everyone who bought the original Xbox One with the Kinect for 500 dollars. There is no fear. You are being defensive of what was an underwhelming conference that people are admitting they thought it was. It was NOTHING like the people on here and across the internet were saying it was going to be, especially those listening to Phil Spencer's PR spiel. Like we all know, MS talks the talk, but they did not walk the walk here, to match their voice.

The vast majority was multiplatform. The direct competition will have those games and they will run and look better. The exclusive games they showed we already knew about, and aside from the little gameplay we saw, the rest was CGI, and likely not arriving until 2016.

The Conker stuff was a flaccid tease.

Just admit that it was an underwhelming conference based on what it was hyped up to be with all the talk of MEGATONS, DX12, cloud etc. It was a 7/10 in my books. Would've been higher with less multiplats, more NEW exclusives, more gameplay and more than one semi-megaton.

They did a good job, what they didn't do is sell me and didn't perform as expected. If Sony or Nintendo has a similar conference i will say the same thing, but frankly, I can't see them having a worse conference than MS.

Solid conference, but nothing groundbreaking. Idk about you guys, but I just want new IPs. Microsoft's usual dose of Halo, Fable, and Forza was unsurprisingly strong, which is fine for those who are fans. Games like Sunset Overdrive and Quantum Break are what we want, though. And Scalebound looks like a great new IP, but third-party exclusives tend not to stay exclusive so I'm not exactly rushing out to buy one just yet. The good thing is: Microsoft is on the right track. I mean, at least they aren't showing Kinect games and paying Usher to dance around on stage anymore...

I watched the Microsoft E3 show and I read that article above. I must be in the minority when I say that I wasn't all that impressed.

I am intrigued about Halo series being in one platform/game and Sunset Overdrive but the rest didn't really wow me (referring to MS Exclusives).

Not enough to run out and buy a Xbox. I will wait and see if those games really live up to the hype being displayed first.

Too much CGI Trailers, still cloud stuff that forces you to have a good internet connection (Crackdown). Too much cartoon games. Sunset Overdrive is just a cheap copy of InFamous with recycled Tony Hawk grinding animations.

And the biggest outrage for me was Platinum Games. How dare they to just so brutally obvious copy DmC. Mixing up Dante (new + old) and Nero and call it their own idea. Even for that Scalebound should receive no reviews at all. They should be sued for copyright infringement. First stealing the gameplay via Bayonetta, now stealing even the main characters with Scalebound.

Besides that I have to say, that from the perspective of features and usability Xbox One is better than PS4. In terms of games and raw power, Sony is unbeaten. But it is going to be a close battle in the upcoming years, even though Sony took the lead for now, Microsoft and Xbox are heading in the right direction.

First mistake was saying witcher has exclusive content, Witcher 3 has no exclusive content to any console. The devs said they don't do that.

MS did not convince me to buy an Xbox One, but they didn't deter me at the same time. Phil promised there would be games and there were games, but just disappointing as we had either heard of them or there were timed exclusive multplats

MS definitely had a good conference but I guess all the hype and rumours that they didn't leave up to poured cold water on it

Microsoft had a bad self image last time they were here. They did talk about games last e3 but the DRM fiasco overshadowed it.

Microsoft's e3 started weeks ago with all the new policies and some of the reversals.

They said this e3 would only be about games and that is what it's about. Everybody been bombarded with rumors, leaks and wish list till today. Expectations are always too high because of those.

what the Xbox is today is because of management changes, competition and having the right guy at the helms. Its a much better box all around than its competitor. It has games in the pipeline and gets updates like no other.

Meh, didn't see any exclusives that interest me other than the Halo remakes. I'll prob pick one up eventually, but that will be in at least a year or two, when the price goes down.

I think the reason why they showed mostly multi-plats is because they ain't got a lot of 1st party games coming out this year (I'm not being biased). I expect them to show more 1st party games next year

In my opinion, the only exclusive game that MS showed and looks remotely interesting is Scalebound and that was just pure CG. Other than that , the show was extremely routine; in other words, there was almost nothing that we did not expect at the show. I wish my mind could be at least a little bit less intact after watching Sony's show

Solid E3 which was clearly all about games, however there was a lot of 3rd party games being showed.

Which is cool but I don't really care about exclusive DLC or none of that nonesense.

Overall I liked the look of Crackdown 3 but that will be a 2015 title sadly, Sunset Overdrive and obviously the chief master collection!

Can't wait for Sony's and Nintendo now !

It was a good conference but the games that i was interested in where the multiplats lol. the only exclusives i was interested in were scale bound and sunset over drive.

CGI and multiplatform demos aren't enough to convince me to buy an Xbox One. I thought the press conference was below average to mediocre, just like the current lineup of Xbox One games.

This guy is easily swayed if the presentation I just watched was enough for him to commit to a (failing) $400 console! NOTHING in that presentation said "Must Own!" to me...all I saw were tons of 3rd party games that will look better and play better on the competing console.

Microsoft didnt have to convince me of anything. I loved the games they showed and many that wasnt. Now sony needs to convince me to keep my ps4 since I dont play it and only game I wanted for may not come to N.A. which is deep down.

So far Ive only bought one game for the ps4 and imo infamous ss isn't worth it for me if I can't bring myself to even finish it.

Like I've stated before. I wouldn't buy a console until 6 months to a year after the release of the console. My nephew bought a Xbox One, now regrets it and my son doesn't play his PS4. But the games will be release shortly and consoles will have some good games for both systems.

Microsoft had a great conference. I was mostly excited for the games but a couple I wasn't interested in but that's normal. The Master Chief Collection I'm really looking forward to, I can finally play Halo from the beginning and play multiplayer which I'm really looking forward too. I was hoping Microsoft would maybe announce some sort of partnership with Steam to bring some of their Xbox games to Steam.

Not one of those games seems interesting to me. Crackdown's orb hunting was fun but the rest of the game was repetitive and boring. More Halo, more Forza, yawn.

I have the urge to buy one because of the Halo collection including Halo 2 and 3, the two games I had the best online multiplayer experience with. IMO, you really can't go wrong with whatever you pick between One and PS4. I'm just going to get the one all my friends agree on and buy the other later.

If the games shown at Microsoft's E3 Press Conference appeal to the extent where the author is willing to purchase an Xbox One then I'm happy for him/her. This is exactly the purpose of these exclusive games and demonstrates the importance for a system to have good quality exclusive titles. Hope the author gets the most out of the purchase.

Is it me or is this site very Anti-Xbox. So MS didnt knock it out the park like most of us expected. But overall it was good.
