CTF and matchmaking update (PC & Xbox One)

Titanfall :

"What Happened to CTF?

Last week we made some changes to the Titanfall playlists on PC and since then many members of the community have expressed their disappointment with our decision. Capture the Flag has been a specific point of contention considering we had just made a significant change to how the mode worked (Titans cannot carry flags after the last patch). If you’re just catching up, we made the decision to remove these modes because hardly anyone was playing them and matches were nearly impossible to find."

Wow, I love the transparency Respawn has been exhibiting, and the flexibility they've been able to exhibit. I also like the added insight into the inter workings of MS azure service.

I'm not surprise that the uproar over the removal of CTF was greater than the number of people actually affected by it. Pitchforks and gaming go hand in hand these days. Less that 1% of the PC population was attempting to play that mode? That make for a matchmaking nightmare. I'm glad to see that they are bringing it back, while exploring ways to improve the matchmaking process for all.

Agreed. But... all this talk about the user experience. It would be nice not timing out while in a private lobby.

@Skizelli

I thought I was the only one! Ever since the last patch, I have been getting booted out of private lobbies.

Lawboy23623d ago

This change actually made me hate the mode"..and I was pissed I couldn't figure out why I kept dropping the flag....I was so pissed...they screwed this patch

Skizelli3623d ago

Being able to steal and capture a flag while piloting a Titan was a HORRIBLE idea. Where's the teamwork in that? I for one am glad they came to their senses.

Lawboy23623d ago

It took skill and timing and it was fair because titans drop at ard the same time it made the game mode fun now ppl can just guard the flag wither titans it's not fun anymore ....I'd have 3-4 captures everytime...but now it's just silly I can capture with the pilot but it might as well be COD or BF 4 CTF....what's the point of having titans in the game mode if u can't use them

Skizelli3623d ago

Skill and timing? LOL. No. Just.. no. I played the mode enough to know that is far from the truth. It was a constant bombardment of Titans trying to take the flag. Nothing more. There was absolutely no skill or timing involved whatsoever.

Notice how you keep saying "I" or "I'd", which precisely proves my point. There was no teamwork whatsoever. With the way it is now, you're forced to make it on foot or hitch a ride with a friendly Titan. More teamwork is involved.

A cookie for anyone who actually managed to go through that entire wall of text.

Regardless, they can talk up matchmaking and waffle on about it all they want but it still shouldn't replace a server browser imho. The whole CTF removal drama is proof of that.. with a server browser people would be able to play CTF and if it really isn't popular, then you'd probably end up making some new gaming buddies seeing as you'll be playing with the same people regularly. That's my biggest gripe with matchmaking, it lacks that community feel you could get from being able to browse and favourite servers..I've made a fair few friends over the years just from regularly playing on the same servers over different games. Matchmaking also is a poor system for longevity, there are so many PC games out there that are 10+ years old that still have people playing them, I wonder if that would still be the case if they were using matchmaking instead of server browsers.

So people were bitching because they removed playlists no one was playing anyway?

The campaign against Titanfall is pathetic.

Although the late 2000s Turok wasn't my favorite, I would love a new entry. Open world survival with shotguns and dinosaurs. Not sure how we'd get the fusion cannon, but that would be pretty sweet too.

MadLad593d ago

Lol

All of these games are pretty much universally praised. Outside of Timeshift I literally own all of these.

XIII, The Darkness 2, Far Cry: Blood Dragon, Timesplitters: future perfect, Bulletstorm are awesome games

An ode to Titanfall: The last twitch shooter I'll probably ever enjoy

Windows Central: "Titanfall 1 is being sunset, taken off storefronts by EA. While the servers remain live for now, one has to wonder just how much time it has left. I look back and pay tribute to the last "twitch"-styled shooter I ever truly loved."

Physical media. Unfortunately the way games are going these days game servers will eventually be shut down and you can stare at the menu and wish you could play the game again.

littletad874d ago

This is why reading is so important. Nothing to do with digital or physical media. The game, which is online only, is being delisted because of DDOS and other hacker attacks. The case got so bad that only six players in the world log on. For PC. Rather than fix it, they continued to sell the game, broken as it is, and only now just decided to call it quits. But please, go on thinking what you will.

Ethereal872d ago

I'm aware of the DDOS attacks and that this case is not typical. This game would eventually have it's servers shutdown regardless of the current situation so that is a moot point. My comment was in a general sense and that there are instances in which games can be preserved physically when official support ends.

Let's recap your first sentence. I said, "the way GAMES are going these days" indicating a broader stroke than just this game. I agree, reading IS important. I was simply stating the obvious downsides of the digital marketplaces and online only trends in games these days. I could even make the argument that the online only offering which has allowed hacker manipulation has impacted the preservation of this great game. My comment is valid in the general sense and thank you for your permission to continue to think what I will.
