Sony Confirms PLANETSIDE 2 PS4 Will Be 1080P, Update Incoming

LUKE KARMALI: Sony has confirmed that PlanetSide 2 is set to run at 1080p with a "smooth" framerate on PS4, and promised hands-on time at E3.

The news comes from creative director Matt Higby, who made the comment during a PlanetSide 2 Twitch stream. He revealed the team is still optimising the MMO shooter for the new console, with bespoke UI and control mechanics all part of the process.

It does, i had lots of fun playing on my friends PC, it can get so damn hectic at times.

I would have liked 60fps to be the priority over 1080p though. I would gladly have taken 720p with less effects if it meant 60fps. I don't mind 30fps for most genres, but i really, really prefer to play FPS's in 60fps.

Ah well, im sure it will still be great, and i'll download it regardless.

30fps doesn't bother me as long as it's a solid 30. This game doesn't appear to be like CoD, where the characters are like heavily armed hummingbirds on crack, making 60fps seem more necessary. My main concern is how the frame rate holds up in big battles. I'd rather a lower resolution that stays smooth when the battles get truly huge.

It didn't perform very well on my laptop, so I'd like to see a solid framerate on the PS4 version.

I am excited however this is yet another one that seems as if its going to miss the boat. This really needed to be out in March or so. If it gets to Aug and destiny etc is around the corner it suddenly has much less impact.

For those who haven't played this, I think your going to like it a lot.

I played for Months as only the NC, haven't tried the other two, but I'm kind of attached to the NC now.

Huge Open Maps, Tons of people on, solid graphics, decent amount of guns & upgrades.

Also I NEVER bought anything or spent money in game. I earned everything and even starting out, The Normal guns they give you, are actually some of the best there are.

The game, day 1, is balanced because of that.

Wait until you guys experience an Alert that sends 400 vs 400 or something like that, you guys are going to poop yourselves with enjoyment.

More than likely not, it's a 2012 PC game so it's quite demanding for 2012 tech. Who knows though they may knock the specs down for the Ps4 release

If any game would deserve a pass for a slightly lower resolution due to the scope of the world, it's this one. Cool that they got it to 1080p though. I hope the frame rate holds up well in big battles.

Honestly, I would accept 720p if it means a smoother framerate. On my laptop the game was super choppy. I don't care to experience that again.

can someone remind me is this f2p, how is the grind for PC edition? also will it have PC crossplay? looking forward to this but didn't like DUST much, found the graphics kind of subpar

Grind is long. But this is the first F2P game I've seen where buying guns for a buck or two is actually worth it.

I don't think it has PC crossplay. Maybe after launch sometime.

There is no set FPS on PC. It all depends on the persons specs. I've played it at 1080p 60fps (for most of the time, experienced dips when there was tons going on) on PC though, it's a very nice looking game.

I usually hovered at 80-100fps @ 1080p back when I played.

It was smooth it was silky

Should of targeted 60 FPS, IMO it's essential for FPS games, hopefully it runs slightly higher than 30 FPS.

1) 1080p at 30fps
2) whatever rez at 60fps

It would either have to run at 30 or 60 because of monitors/TV's using the CRT standard.

Anything in between and you'd have tearing and useless frames that you'd never see.

Hence why G-Sync on PC is a huge deal now.

Actually no this is one of the few none pay to win games. Sure you can buy weapons with money. But even if you have a starting weapon and come up against someone with a purchased weapon does not mean he will win. I think the game is balanced pretty good. Plus I think everything can be unlocked in game instead of buying it.

Yup, or just check YouTube. Lots of great videos, of simply gameplay or more explanatory tutorial stuff. I watched a 2+ hour video of a multi platoon coordinated assault on Indar not too long ago, but there are also very entertaining vids of 2-3 man squads tearing it up on the ground and in the air.
