Why Am I Still Hearing That The Wii U Needs More Games?

MVGN writes: "Super Mario 3D World, The Wonderful 101, Game and Wario, Need For Speed Rivals, The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD, Rayman Legends, Zombi U, Assassin’s Creed III and IV, Batman: Arkham Origins, Call of Duty, New Super Mario U, New Super Luigi U, NintendoLand, Darksiders 2, Dues Ex, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze, Wii Fit U, Just Dance, Resident Evil, Injustice Gods Among Us, Lego City Undercover, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Splinter Cell, Pikmin 3 (have you had enough yet) and the COUNTLESS, quality eShop titles places Nintendo’s new system as a game machine with plenty of must have titles… But, just today, I still hear the moans about the system NOT having games. I simply do not get it."

Yea that's the typical argument. You don't like something or the landscape of something currently, you're a hater.

Hey you don't like Obama guess what? your a hater.

if you don't like chicken noodle soup, you're a hater.

if you don't like wearing pants, guess what? YOU'RE A HATER....

MultiConsoleGamer3634d ago

If you don't like what the Wii U has to offer you have poor taste in games.

3-4-53634d ago

Well technically, ALL the new consoles need more games. They are all still young, let them grow.

Marketing failure from Nintendo.

Summons753634d ago

that plus intelligence failure from haters since they are so blind to not actually do research. Why should nintendo hand wrap and deliver every bit of information when these haters won't even meet them halfway and have an open mind, do reasearch, play the Wiiu/games before talking smack about it.

Joe9133634d ago

Because it is Nintendo wants to sell consoles they need to get the word out with all the cool news coming out about the Xbox one and PS4 why would anyone go looking for news about Nintendo. Totally disagree with you it is not my job to talk myself into buying a Nintendo console it is Nintendo's job to sell it to me and if they can not I go and buy a console from another company that is how business works.

iplay1up23634d ago

That is exactly the problem. Nintendo direct is not getting info out to the masses. I also do not think a happy meal toy is the way to market to gamers, as that is going to be coming soon or its already out, I do not go to MC'Ds so I do not know.

I use my Wii U every day. There are a ton of games out for the system, and tons of exclusives out NOW.

Nintendo better market the heck out of MK8.

rivencleft3634d ago

I use my Wii U to play Wii games.. Seriously, been playing Mario Party 8 + 9 with my son, I have Wii U games like Super Mario 3D World, Super Mario Bros. U/Luigi U, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze but I seem to keep going back to regular Wii games. I agree with you wholeheartedly about Nintendo not getting the word out, they seem to have been keeping quiet about everything for some reason, games releasing, etc. I've pretty much had to research Wii U games in order to figure out what is out and what is coming out. It appears that Nintendo's biggest failure with Wii U is their marketing campaign is a little lacking, if they marketed their system and games better more people would definitely buy, especially those with children, hell my son watching tv the other day (5 years old)ran up to me and said, Hey dad Yoshi has a new island, so of course I was like what the hell are you talking about kid? Come to find out he just saw a commercial for Yoshi's New Island for 3DS and now he won't shut up about it, see, THAT'S a good marketing ploy, they should do that with all of their 1st party games, sad my son had to tell me about a new game before I found out myself.

"Why Am I Still Hearing That The Wii U Needs More Games?"

Mostly because you see this argument come from one of two groups.

The conditional argument: Most people who make this claim fall in this group and to put it simply, they don't want more games per se, but more games they like. There are a lot of reasons for this argument, though it's usually used because it's easier to agree with a vague statement than a precise one.

The uninformed / bad journalism argument: One of the biggest fallacies game journalists propagate is the notion that some games are so amazing that they can single handedly get consumers to purchase a system. So instead of getting well rounded articles about whether or not Mario Kart 8 will finally push consumers to buy a Wii U, we get articles like "Can MK 8 save the Wii U" and these articles usually talk about the single game and its impact on the industry. Another problem is when people do lists and the list is just a train wreck.

A perfect example of this is IGN's top 25 Vita games ( http://www.ign.com/articles... ) from a few months back. I won't get into a long explanation of whats wrong with this list, but it doesn't instill confidence in your system when Hotline Miami and Sound Shapes are among the 10 best things your system has to offer.

So due to articles that focus on a single game and awful best of lists, it's easy to forget what the system really has to offer. Especially since many people say the Vita still needs more games...

wheresmymonkey3634d ago

Agreed. It's in a very simialr boat to the wiiu really. A capable sysatem with plenty of interesting games and terrible PR.

wonderfulmonkeyman3634d ago

I don't own or know much about the vita's lineup, and even I can see the sense in it.
It's like I've been saying for ages now; not having games you like doesn't mean a system had no good games period. It just means you're likely not giving many of them a fair chance, if one can't find a single good game on any of the systems that are out.

Blues Cowboy3634d ago

Because it needs more system sellers. I own a Wii U and it's lovely - from TW101 to MH3U and ZombiU, but lots of fan favourites and niche powerhouses just can't make any sort of mainstream impression. Even SM3DW was poorly timed, badly marketed, didn't have a bundle and - this is the key - had a bland conservative name that was difficult to get excited about.

Mario Kart 8 is a system seller. New Zelda will be too. The Wii U just needs a couple of games like this to tip the balance, sell more consoles and introduce people to all the awesome niche stuff on that platform that otherwise is tough to market.

Don't get me started on MiiVerse, which is amazing but almost impossible to explain!

wheresmymonkey3634d ago

How many system sellers does the PS4 or Xbox One currently have. I can't name one. they have good games but nothing i would refer to as a killer ap.

there's nothing wrong with the name super mario 3d world. it shows that it's linked to a very successful 3ds game and also what is recognised as one of the greatest games ever made. super mario world on the SNES.

SageShinigami3634d ago

The PS4 has surpassed Wii U sales in a fraction of the time--whether or not it has a killer app is irrelevant.

That's not fair, I agree. But consoles sold don't lie. Seven million in less than half a year versus 6.3 in well over a year? That's why the Wii U needs a killer app.

Actually, that's not true. They need multiple to get as many people buying their console as possible. I don't want Wii U to die next year and I just got it at the end of 2013. >_<

Blues Cowboy3634d ago

"there's nothing wrong with the name super mario 3d world. it shows that it's linked to a very successful 3ds game and also what is recognised as one of the greatest games ever made. super mario world on the SNES."

Hate to be pedantic, but it doesn't really do that. It shows that it's linked to the 3DS game Super Mario 3D Land - even though it isn't. More to the point, it doesn't sound cool or even remotely interesting.

"Sunshine" and "Galaxy" set you up for fun and adventure. "3D" sets you up for... 3D? Feel like we've kinda passed that being a selling point.

NovusTerminus3634d ago (Edited 3634d ago )

The issue is the future proof side of the system, losing games like Arkham Knight, Dragon Age, Destiny skipped it, Watch_Dogs is late and might not have the invasion feature to it. Dark Souls 2 skipped it, MGS and FF are as well, and more will be.

I know the debate "you don't by Nintendo for 3rd party games" and while that might be true, it does make the other systems look a tad more appealing since multiplatform games are then out of your reach.

Maybe it doesn't need more games, just less sparse release dates. Which in Sony and MS's case is covered by the 3rd party. Giving gamers stuff between 1st party games

MonChiChi3634d ago (Edited 3634d ago )

Took the words outta my mouth.

lemoncake3634d ago

Which is why the wii u makes for a great second console, play these third party games on the x1 or ps4 then play some amazing exclusives on the relatively low cost wii u.

Venoxn4g3634d ago

you may be right, but yes, Wii U will be great as secondary console, but it will have many indie games (sure not everyone likes them, but I do a lot).. so PC & PS4 gonna be for multiplatform fix (yea and exclusives)

Agreed. Great for multiplayer.

If they do make a sequel, they should incorporate Bowser’s Fury’s game design into the mix. Think Bowser’s Fury’s overworld where you can find warp points to linear levels like Mario 3D World.
