Driveclub: You Can Still Get Platinum Trophy with PS Plus Edition; Upgrade Price Announced Soon

The fact that the PlayStation Plus Edition of Driveclub won’t allow you to complete the single player Tour mode made many wonder Sony Computer Entertainment walked back on its promise made last year of allowing players to earn the platinum trophy without purchasing the full version, Apparently they didn't, while the option to upgrade will still be made available, and the price will be announced soon.

So, still has an upgrade price and platinum .... guess we can all stop bitching about how sony giving us a major portion of one of their biggest AAA games FOR FREE at launch is a "slap in the face."

Abriael3642d ago

Eh, people always find a lot of excuses to feel "slapped in the face." It makes for a very attractive headline, in the worst possible meaning.

PeaSFor3642d ago

some hit bait bloggers will still find a way to bitch and moan about something futile and be sensationalistic about it.

GribbleGrunger3642d ago

I wish PS4 owners would realise there isn't a backlog of AAA titles for Sony to draw on for PS+ at the moment. Developers are going to want to get back as much money as they can on their investments, so it's unlikely that we'll see even ONE AAA title within the first year. Perhaps Sony will eventually release Knack or Killzone, but even those titles aren't guaranteed. Until then, I'm quite content to be getting free Indie titles and the upcoming Driveclub, especially when I'm still getting free PS3 games and purchasing Vita titles just in case I finally get the money together to buy one.

Salooh3642d ago (Edited 3642d ago )

First AAA game is drive club which is coming in october . So from there we can expect More AAA's . We may even get 1 indy and 1 AAA too :P . My bet on november/december game is knack lol . I didn't buy it so wouldn't mind if it comes for free :P . If that didn't happen then it's ok with me , i can wait :P.

People just need to be patient. It's stupid to expect big games this early.

TheDarpaChief3642d ago

If it was microsoft in this position all of the defense force would have seen that article and the uploader banned for life.

Visiblemarc3642d ago

I think it's really just a matter of the way the msg is delivered.

I'm a huge Sony supporter, and usually a critic of ungratefulness, yet even I have had trouble reconciling the messaging from last year about this game, vs this year.

Last year by saying the game let you platinum with the Plus version, the implication was the Plus version was fairly complete. Now it sounds quite limited, despite the platinum still being on the table.

I think people are confusing the matter. What we're seeing here is a direct result of in-app-purchase fatigue. After the hype and the delays, people are now realizing that maybe this game will be filled with IAP. To me, and many, they are heavily tarnishing the racing genre, in particular.

So this "upgrade price"....

We all get he PS+ version free which whatever anyone thinks ITS STILL FREE. You can basically play that and if you feel it's good enough to invest in then upgrade....

What i was wondering is will the upgrade cost a full retail price of £60 or will it be discounted?

Is it possible to buy this game on its own as a physical full game copy?

Abriael3642d ago (Edited 3642d ago )

Bet you it'll be discounted. By how much, I have no idea, but my bet is on 30-40 bucks. Feel free to counter with yours.

nicksetzer13642d ago

I'd say 40-50, 30 is a bit too steep. But I agree, it's pretty clear they intend to cut the price some for PS+ users who upgrade.

Madderz3642d ago

I have no idea TBH!!

I would probably guess the same sort of price. 30-40.

However I would only pay that given the PS+ version leaves me wanting more!

gamer78043642d ago

Probably 50 to 55. I don't see it being lower than 50 at launch

Lucreto3642d ago

I believe there are microtransactions.

You can buy the full game or if you want a single car you can buy it or a single track.

Majin-vegeta3642d ago

There are no Microtransactions. They were referring to DLC which people blew out of proportion.

Lucreto3642d ago (Edited 3642d ago )

He also clarified what he meant with a previous vague statement on microtransactions, promising that there won’t be any “consumable” boost available for purchase in Driveclub.

From Dualshockers: "For the moment only three countries (Scotland, Norway and India) have been officially announced, but we don’t know if there will be more in the final game."

That's wrong. We know also Canada and Chile.
Canada you saw at Gamescom 2013 and Chile in the Audi R8-video in September 2013.

Abriael3642d ago

Thanks. I missed those, fixed.

Jonnyquest3213642d ago

Look guys while I do agree with you that certain people expect too much from PS+, that does not change the fact that the early information about DriveClub seemed to insinuate that the PS+ version would be only slightly worse off than the full version but this is simply not true.

If I say to you I'll give you a million dollars for free, of course you'd be ecstatic but then later if I give you only 500 thousand (still for free) you'd wonder where the other 500 thousand was. It's the same case here, while I'm pleased with the Driveclub being offered, it is not what I expected from reading all those early quotes

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut85102d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack102d ago (Edited 102d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander1972102d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff2183101d ago (Edited 101d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim102d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno102d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff2183101d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

Chocoburger102d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai102d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC102d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.

purple1011202d ago

i went to the article and theres only a couple racing games, cant find the button to move page on through all the adverts.

purple1011202d ago

ah its changed to a video now, strange, but il take it

Dfooster1201d ago

Dirt rally doesn't even make the list? Errm OK then.

Driveclub is over rated as well, with middle of the road handling and the 30fps killed it upon arrival for me.
