64 player Battlefield 4 was worth it alone for the new consoles.

I first played BF3 on 360 and then a year or so later on PC and then 4 as well and IMO the player count for conquest and rush make the experience so much better, so if someone really enjoys BF then it is well worth the upgrade.

Forza 5 is definitely worth upgrading for if you are a racing fan. Other than that, there are really no must have next gen games that aren't available on other platforms.

Second Son, Killzone and Ryse are all visually awesome, but I would have trouble telling someone to update just to play them.

There are some next gen exclusives I love, such as Killer Instinct, Resogun, Powerstar Golf, Kinect Sports Rivals but I don't think they are system sellers.

Most of the best games currently available for next gen are on multiple systems. Tombraider, Child of Light, Rayman, Titanfall, Max Curse of Brotherhood etc.

That being said, I haven't turned on my 360 or PS3 since I upgraded so there is plenty to do. X1 UI/UX is especially very cool. And the games will come eventually!

Even forza is kinda last gen looking, don't get me wrong I enjoy it.

LAWSON723645d ago (Edited 3645d ago )

Visually it looks good just not mind blowing (cars look incredible with the very good reflections). However the addition of the new rumble triggers and drivatars is truly amazing and IMO should be a standard for racing games.

The game is very much refined when it comes to gameplay but lacks content and trys to milk its buyers with DLC and more DLC. Even key features that were great for the social side of the game are lacking and IMO this is just BS. The game seems rushed and has less things then its predecessor and that is inexcusable. I love the game but at this point I pretty much have quite the dislike for turn 10, a dev that was once among my favorite

The visual upgrade to 8th gen is not that great yet...I mean I noticed it right away when jumping to ps2 from ps one and ps3 from 2.With Gen 8 we actually have to do side by side comparisons with gen 7 just to locate the difference in graphic fidelity

I am finding it hard to justify my PS4 purchase right now. I have only had it for just over a month.
I bought it for NBA 2014 and play that quite a bit. But I hardly play infamous Second Son. I also this week got Tomb Raider on the cheap and Killzone at a bargain basement £12!
Problem is I played Tomb Raider to death on my 360. Finished it 100%. Not that bothered now.
The biggest problem I have is that my PS4 does not recognise my HDMI Splitter which means I have to unplug all of my other consoles from my tv just to play it. As a result when I have a minute to play games I go for the quick option of my WiiU and or my 3DS.
I am playing Etrian Odyssey Untold on my 3DS this week. PS4 is starting to gather dust. Trust me that is unheard of in my household.

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan19d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave19d ago (Edited 19d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name43d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno43d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno43d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure43d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
