VRFocus - Altergaze, a mobile virtual reality (VR) headset for use with smartphones, has passed its Kickstarter funding goal of £25,000 GBP. Designer Liviu Berechet Antoni passed the goal with just over 3 days left of the campaign, ending on 1st May 2014. At the time of writing a total of 359 backers have pledged their support towards the project, helping start the manufacturing of the 3D-printed device by building a small production line.
A brand new virtual reality (VR) experience, Orbulus, has launched on mobile devices. Developed by VRCraftworks, the software is available now and supports most 3D content viewers, such as Durovis Dive, Altergaze and is also suggested to be designed for future compatibility with the forthcoming Gear VR from Samsung.
Here comes the headaches. Jokes aside can't wait to see what the future holds for VR obviously a lot of companies now are jumping on board this VR freight train unlike the past. I remember good old VR days past in the enclosed circle, looking stupid('! ')
Today’s Evolve in Brighton conference saw virtual reality (VR) take centre stage as a highlight of the event just as it has with a number of international videogame industry show this year. Along with a talk from nDreams’ Patrick O’Luanaigh earlier in the day, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s (SCEE) David Ranyard, London Studio Director, spoke about the strengths of VR and the potential future of the PlayStation 4′s Project Morpheus.
I bet it would be pretty emotional when you're getting chased by a [insert: zombie, monster, etc] in Virtual Reality lol. Immersion is the key that makes all the deference. Personally, I can't wait to see the day when you can have VR experiences in movie theaters. (they already are in talks about this, it shouldn't be too far off, relatively speaking)
Really excited for VR, hopefully we'll hear more soon. Although when Sony comes out with PM I really hope they work with retailers to have a demo station set up in some places like Best Buy, Gamestop. They really need to let people try them out, its somthing you have to experience, I don't think its somthing that most will buy on a whim via word of mouth.
VRFocus - Virtual reality (VR) meetups are finally starting to spread out across the UK. While the south east already has a number of different events being hosted in London and Brighton, the first south west event has finally been revealed. The SouthWest VR Meetup, run by Opposable Games' Dan Page, takes place on Tuesday 29th July 2014 at Big Chill Bar, 15 Small St, Bristol, Avon, BS1 1DE. A range of guests are lined up for the inaugural event, including one from Oculus Rift VR headset maker Oculus VR. Not only that, but the Oculus Rift's second development kit (DK2) will also be in attendance.
This looks promising.
