Blizzard On Diablo 3 PS4: We Don't Consider Straight Ports, Game Will Feel Like It Was Made For PS4

Alex Mayberry revealed that the PS4 version of the game won't be a straight port and that they plan to make changes that will make it "feel like it was made for that platform."

Agreed! To hell with the whole parity BS.

thrust3675d ago

Is there a release date yet?

I like this trend, and I hope this continues throughout this generation!

I always hated last generation's excuse to deliver similar experiences on both platforms. Seriously? Who benefits from something like that?

"We want you to look at both games and say 'I can't tell the difference'"

That's great, and I'm sure developers would love for that to be the norm, but if making the same title on separate platforms look identical means lowering the standards or graphical capabilities of the more powerful unit, then that's ludicrous.

It's simple. Make your game perform the best for each respective platform. But, of course, money talks... and as the generation that was born just before "The Great Recession", the 7th generation spoke mostly in dollars. Meaning - why would they put the effort in to make the best title when making both platforms meet the lowest common denominator would work "just as well".

It sucks, but that was the economy we had to deal with back then; something that is still slowly recovering 7 years later.

Yeah those with weaker systems shouldn't have the right to hold stronger systems back. Developers should develop games according to the strengths of each platform.

I'm really looking forward to Diablo 3. Played the demo on PS3 and loved it. I have been waiting for the PS4 version of Diablo.

I was incredibly skeptical when Diablo 3 came to consoles. But Ill be damned if it wasnt more enjoyable than the pc version. It didnt feel like a port whatsoever. And the Roll/Evade was much needed addition from the PC game.

CorndogBurglar3675d ago

I felt the same way. The console improved the PC version in every single possible way.

How often do you see that? A PC game get ported to console and end up being better?

Thehyph3675d ago

Right there with ya.

Loved playing it on ps3, and I'll probably go for the ps4 version, too.

I do hope the item drops get modified though. Getting a legendary item like every ten minutes really damaged the end game replayability

SteamPowered3675d ago (Edited 3675d ago )

Oops, double post.

WeAreLegion3675d ago

Good to hear. I love couch co-op!

I'm sure it will be a decent game considering how long it's taken them to release it. 2+ years old game from pc

I'm going to skip it because I don't want a penny of my money going towards Activision.

Activision Blizzard only cares about the profits from their games, not the game quality or audience itself. The only reason it's getting this much time and polish is A. some type of deal worked out with sony B. the MASSIVE growing install base on the PS4.

This game couldn't even satisfy longtime fans longer than a month. Then they kicked off the director and replaced him with someone who wasn't a hotheaded idiot.

Hope this company crashes and burns to the point where they lay off everyone other than Kotick who sits on all their money.

Giving money to EA and Activision is like asking to get kicked in the balls.

neocores3675d ago

The game has changed alot with the recent patches and updates and the new expasion pack. Stop Hating on a game thats improving everyday.

RollinThunder3675d ago (Edited 3675d ago )

While I agree Jay Wilson wrecked the direction of D3 and ruined launch; I also believe the game has turned around a good deal. I have no doubt it was a humbling experience. I'm not a huge fan of Activision or the new Blizz( where's my 90s Blizz? Even early to mid 2000's) But i've still got a bit of faith in their ability to polish games based on outstanding IPs.

That being said, I'll take this AND Torchlight 3 pls pls pls ARPG heaven. Let's throw in a Bastion sequel while we're at it :)

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.

thorstein78d ago

I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.

All those games had to release without bugs.

shinoff218378d ago

Comebacks shouldnt be a thing in videogames. Just saying.

Diablo III - Still a Huge Draw in the Face of Diablo IV

Diablo III still works on modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and remains hugely playable a decade after initial release.

Palitera387d ago

Are you comparing a continuously improved 10+ years old masterpiece with the... beta of an unreleased game?

kevco33386d ago

Heh, yeah. There's no comparison in here! Its a commentary on how III is still very playable over a decade later.
