Microsoft really miscalculated here. Believing the Xbox 1 with its weaker specs and kinnect was of greater value than the PS4. $100 greater value in fact. It seems they have realized rather quickly that is not the case. Even i did not forsee a price drop this early.

However the disadvantage of being the more expensive console from the onset means that your competitor can also cut price to stay ahead. Solution for MS here needs to be swallow pride and take out kinnect. Developers still aren't lining up to do anything great on it so at this point they just need to cut their losses and accept that they aren't going to be selling a 450 machine to casuals when they are far cheaper options available.

I clearly stated that there was a demand, just not one keeping up with supply - thus, it's clear that I wasn't talking about every gamer on the planet plus one not being interested in buying a console for $500; just the average gamer, considering that Ps4 has sold almost twice as many units and it will still be some time before Xbone overtakes Wii U.

Want to explain why the PS Camera is selling out? From what your saying no one wants a camera bundled in with there system. Well guess what, you pay full price for a PS4 and a PS Camera and it works out to be the same cost as buying a XB1. The PS camera only has like, a 15% attach rate. Kinect had about 25% attach rate. Still points to a major decrease in camera interest, when gamers are actually given a choice.

Microsoft is one of the biggest businesses in the world. They sport some of the most financially speaking- endlessly deep pockets ever known. They may be cutting the price and making LESS profit than they wanted, but they aren't hurting for cash in the first place... SONY, however, not so lucky. According to Microsoft's shareholders, MS stock value would go up if they get rid of Xbox and bing. Xbox is not doing very good compared to the competition and tbey keep spending millions to try and sell more consoles. Millions on Titanfall's exclusive deal. Millions marketing the game they paid exclusivity for, and it looks like it didn't help much, otherwise this pricecut+Titanfall wouldn't exist.

If you think Microsoft's stock value is going up because of Xbox, you are dead wrong. One thing I am sure of, the shareholders know that stock value would be much higher if Xbox didn't exist.

Now they are doing with Sony what Microsoft's shareholders want to do with Xbox, get rid of what's not doing good and on Microsoft's side it's Xbox and Bing they want to get rid of. Apple TV gave them 1bn in revenue last year and they are now treating it more serious and taking things further with it. I do not own any Apple products btw, I do not dislike them either but I do my extensive research whenever I purchase something.

You don't understand how this type of business works. Losing money on the console has been happening for decades. Putting your hardware in as many people's hands as possible means you have better chances on selling more software. Software is what Nintendo have been focusing on since the beginning of time, and they sell more software by miles. If people start buying the XB1, sure MS will lose more money on it but they will make it back with LIVE subscriptions and more Software sales.

People who bitch about controllers and games controls just can't adapt like people from my generation or experience. Yes, I am aware of that, but it doesn't matter anyway, because there is still the second issue I pointed out... Mind you , these are only my 2 main reasons - there are other reasons like the UI, the online service, the features/social aspects, etc.

The bottom line is that PS simply doesn't offer anything I want. Between Xbox, PC and my Gamefly account, I have everything I want, and if I didn't have those, I still wouldn't want a PS. Even back when the original PS launched and their wasn't any xbox to compare it to, I was never a fan of it.

The PS has nothing for me, and don't even start with exclusives. The only platform where I actually look forward to exclusives, is PC.

Obviously some of you guys are NOT investors at all. The average Microsoft investor does not really care if each individual Xbox makes money or not. If an investor even remotely CARES about Microsoft's Xbox division; they mostly care about the MARKET SHARE the Xbox division has, or how much market share IT IS PROJECTED TO HAVE. if sony were to cut 50 dollars off teh ps4 they would never be able to keep up with the demand. as for the stock pics those mean nothing in the hole picture, ms is doing fine in plenty of there other products but the xbone is not doing as well as they hoped, it's doing alright and they will say it's doing great but you don't cut price on a product that is making you money. so this proves that the xbone is running it to consumer interest problems. now sony is struggling with a lot of there other products but the ps4 is exceeding the sales expectations by a lot. i highly doubt that sony will follow suit and drop the price because it's selling and selling well and at a price consumer will pay. thus making them the most profit. ms is in trouble with the xbone you should not cut price with in four to five months.

Edit below, we don't know that. They might have the system just around the $450 point without the pack -in game. Even if they are loosing money, it is the way it has been for console makers. It is like the razor blade business in which you get the razors out for cheap and even a loss in order to entice customers to buy razor blades, in gaming terms this means controllers, games, Xbox Live subscription, etc. In a competitive industry like gaming, if you don't act quick and counter your competitors, you will be left4dead like Atari, Sega, NEC in the past.

I'm well aware of the perils of being an early adopter as I've bought every Playstation and the first two Xboxes on day one.

A price cut 4 months in though, is a bit of a slap in the face, and shows a lack of confidence in your product.

I buy day one, because I dont want to wait, what is normally 6 months minimum to a year to save a little money. But no one expects a price cut so soon and no one can say this is coming from anywhere other than a position of weakness.

Yes, the original asking price for the XB1 IS too high. High enough, at least, to prohibit the mass market adoption of the console: while initial sales were very good, the rate of purchase has since dropped off significantly. Couple that with the consistently higher sales of the PS4, and the XB1 was bound to be seen as too expensive to remain at $500. There's a perceived- and actual, if I'm being honest- lack of value at that price, especially when bundled with a controversial accessory and compared against a cheaper but more powerful competitor.

It's also true that an official price cut is a bad sign. This would be the fastest price cut ever for a console, home or handheld, and it doesn't speak well of the confidence Microsoft has in the product. Obviously, it's good for consumers in that it costs them less to acquire to console, but it's a bad sign for Microsoft(and the investors some people seem to think will be happy with being dominated, when they were told they would be the ones doing the dominating). Without a doubt, they don't want to cut the price this early if they don't have to. Thinking logically, if the XB1 were doing as well as they'd like, there would be no NEED to implement a price cut.

Still $100 to much. With cheaper RAM and GPU should be able to undercut price of PS4. If MS is so determined to make sure everyone has a Kinect than they can throw it in for free. Many not willing to spend extra money for a needless accessory they don't want.
