Which Uncharted is the Best in the Series?

OnlySP: We introduce a new video series today called, OnlySP Chat, where our video editor, Adam McDermont will discuss gaming topics. Today's topic, Which Uncharted is the Best in the Series?

Batnut003682d ago

I'm going to go with Uncharted 2 on this one.

Convas3682d ago

No contest. Uncharted 2 all the way.

Nitrowolf23682d ago

Agreed.

The first one was great, but two really amped it up in terms of everything.

3 however, though i did enjoy it a lot , I thought the pacing was all wrong and felt that each scenario after one another had to one up itself in whatever way possible. It was a great game in the end, but 2 really did hit the spot.

Palitera3682d ago

@Nitro
Exactly my thoughts on this. The biggest problem is the pace, no doubt. Too much tedious climbing.

The multiplayer was great, though.

XisThatKid3682d ago

2 for Single player but 3 for multi

Evilsnuggle3682d ago

Uncharted 2 has the best online multiplayer of all-times

Hicken3682d ago

Maybe, but not by much, perhaps.

Gotta say, it was definitely one of my favorite multiplayers of last generation. Although I did like some parts of UC3's multiplayer better(like how dynamic the stages could be), Uncharted 2 was simply a total package of awesome.

linkenski3682d ago (Edited 3682d ago )

I meant to disagree. 3 has the worst writing by far, and especially the ending is just UC2 ripoff. You get to the big eldorado-like place and then it starts to crumble and you have to escape.

The whole story about Drake and his motivations was needless IMO and awfully executed. You went through one blockbuster action sequence after the next, then right after that a crewmate -- Sully, Elena, Chloe or whatever -- stops up and asks something like "Why do you keep doing this!?" and then everything just moves on afterwards as if nothing changed... and it's the same thing everytime and it comes out of nowhere.

Elena: "Drake I've been on these runs with you for two games without ever doubting you... Now I've suddently decided I want a forced moral plot that doesn't fit in the game, so... why do you keep looking for adventure? You're getting reckless"

Drake: "I don't know Elena. It's just what I do because I have the passion for it"

Elena: "Okay..."

*wild car-chase sequence follows up*

Uncharted 2, and it's not really a contest. What made 2 better than the others was not only the gameplay, but the multiplayer, the story (I didn't particularly care for Uncharted 3 mentioning Nathan was a fake Drake and just ignoring that bombshell the rest of the game), and the new game plus options that allowed more flexibility with what weapons you wanted to go into the campaign with that was a feature inexplicably removed from Uncharted 3. The pacing of Uncharted 2 was also much better than the other titles. Almost perfect pacing in that game, where Uncharted 3 is a bit of a chore to replay knowing some sections (Nate as a kid in the museum, for an example) are such a slow crawl. I felt the puzzles were much better in Uncharted 2 as well. Having said all that, I love all the Uncharted games, much as I love the Mass Effect franchise.

JsonHenry3682d ago

My vote goes to 2 as well. I didn't care enough about part 3 to even finish it.

-Superman-3682d ago

Just because Uncharted 3 was not that big improvement from Uncharted 2 to 3, than 1 to 2 dosent mean Uncharted 2 is better.

Uncharted 3 has better online, awesome co-op, and desert setting is more interesting.

frostypants3682d ago

Uncharted 2 had better set pieces and better writing. Also, what's with the suit-drones early in Uncharted 3? It's like they ran out of budget for other enemy models.

Batnut003682d ago

I didn't even say anything about Uncharted3, I just said UC2 to me the best in the series.

assdan3682d ago

I think it's pretty unanimous that people agree it's uncharted 2. I'd say 3 is second and 1 is the "worst." Uncharted 1 is still an amazing game, but 2 and 3 are masterpieces.

Lol at the end of the video. That's probably how my entire recording sessions would have gone had I tried this. I'd have to say Uncharted 3 was my favorite in the series. The combat, I think, was better and I enjoyed the locations traveled to a bit more. Couldn't stand Uncharted 1 aside from the story, game's AI was so unforgiving.

Chitown712913682d ago

3 was my favorite too bro. Not sure why people didnt feel like it was better than 2, but I did. But different opinions I guess lol

linkenski3682d ago

I think from a story-analysis pov, 3 is objectively worse in how it is written. It just feels forced and has a lot of cheap moments.

Chitown712913682d ago

@Linkenski I disagree. Personally I feel like more curveballs were threw in the story and it made fora more engaging story for me personally .(SPOILER) But the part where Sully supposedly dies had me so infuriated when I first play it lol. The locales are more mesmerizing and mind blowing as well. The desert and ocean scenes in 3D is amazing

Visiblemarc3682d ago

Yep! 3 *is* the best.

Never understood why people love to hate on it, while holding up 2 as perfect.

The entire series is great though, 1 is dated, but if you look past it's weaker graphics and unrefined mechanics, it's also awesome.

AdamMVP3682d ago

That 8 minute video took me about an hour to shoot with all the interruptions and flubbed lines, haha.

Blackleg-sanji3682d ago

Hmm thats hard but i have to say 2 hands down

creeping judas3682d ago

2 for the story line, 3 for the graphics and additional content. 1 for introducing us to something a little bit different in the adventure game genre.

The Inconsistent Harmony: 5 Examples of Ludonarrative Dissonance in Video Games

VGChartz's Issa Maki: "I finally have a proper designation akin to what I've always referred to internally as 'the line that must be crossed' or 'The Line', for short – ludonarrative dissonance – the separation from a video game's story in relation to its gameplay. Why isn't PETA all up in Mario's grill for jumping on turtles and killing fish, or charging Samus Aran with the extinction of the Metroid species? Ever notice how fire has that habit of making bosses in Resident Evil stronger? Read on my friend, for I endeavor to imbue you with the ability to engage in basic queries concerning the concept."

It's about retirement...oh wait

UNCHARTED2FANATIC898d ago (Edited 898d ago )

I cant even say what the point was its easily the worst story in the series. The online was a whole lot of fun though but overall doesn't come even close to 2

porkChop898d ago (Edited 898d ago )

It was a step back for sure. Personally, I thought even the MP was way better in U2. Solid game, glad I played it. I just think they didn't push as hard as they did with U2.

UNCHARTED2FANATIC893d ago

Yes both the online and story was better in 2 no doubt

Flewid638898d ago

The "young Drake" portion was pretty top notch, story-wise. But yeah, everything outside of that I felt was inferior.

DanielEndurance898d ago

Villains were all over the place in this… one second they wanted Drake dead, the next they needed him, then they want him dead again, then they coulda killed him, but poisoned his friend instead, then coulda shot him again, but had brunch with him, then needed him alive, then coulda mowed him down, but decided to kill him by fire and let him escape… Uncharted 2 was way better. 😅😅

slowgamer898d ago

=D Sounds crazy. I don't remember any of that. Played it on ps3 and I remember thinking that why was this game so bashed compared to second one. I liked it.

Chocoburger897d ago (Edited 897d ago )

Another thing that annoyed me about UC3 events was the agent Talbot teleporting around Turkey. It just felt off to me, and made no sense.

Also, for about one third of the game, you go on a wild goose chase to rescue Sully, who wasn't even there to be rescued, and you end up back where you started again. There was simply no pay off for all the events you go through, so it fell flat in that regard as if they couldn't figure out how to make the game longer, so they decided to side-track you to do something with no pay off, hoping you wouldn't notice due to all the incredible action set pieces they made.

Overall though, even with its flaws, I still enjoy the game.

TheEnigma313898d ago

This was actually my least favorite in the series. Didn't have that same impact that part 2 set.

Flewid638898d ago

Uncharted 2 is the pinnacle of the series (to me).

Granted, 4 had the best story in my opinion, but 2 was the overall best game.
