Alex St-Amour from 3GEM writes: 'The 2D platformer, one of gaming’s stalwart franchises in the late 80s and early 90s, has made a comeback in recent years thanks to efforts of small independent developers as well as mega-corporations like Nintendo and SEGA putting their best feet forward as they scroll from left to right. For this week’s Top 10, we decided to highlight the best of the genre that many of us cut our gaming teeth on.'
Times are changing, and these games would have never been made in today's climate.
Every single time someone uses this phrase whether it's music, movies, books, comics, video games, etc it's always the same claim.
The ubiquitous "they" won't allow it to be made. And every decade these claims are made the claimant completely ignores all the "offensive" material that is published when the claim is made.
In ten years, you can write a new article about how you can't make games like Helldivers 2, Resident Evil VIII, Mortal Kombat I, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2 etc etc etc any more.
Dead Island: "The early PC version of the zombie game swapped the playable character Purna’s Gender Wars skill with a prototype name, which shouldn’t be mentioned directly. The skill name made fun of both Purna as a character and feminists."
"Feminist Whore" lmao
ill add one more to the list.
drakengard 1.
its ridiculous tho, especially since they'd still be able to find their place in alot of places in the world. except america of course ha. and maybe Australia.
ppl are so sensitive these days. ha. but it is what it is.
They're not offensive.
And we need another Fat Princess. Fantastic little game!
Some people just have no sense of humour if this sort of thing offends them. They need to lighten up and stop taking themselves so seriously.
Ubisoft barely have a leg to stand on lately, so do they need to crack open the vaults and return platforming royalty to glory for some goodwill?
We need Rayman 4, they could make a great platformer game if they wanted. With the open hub levels and the like.
Better than relying on Rabbids and Assassins Creed all the time
Yes..but I am sure it won't be the Rayman game fans want. Not from the company that is Ubisoft today.
Ancel is retired from games. His hoodlum/rabbid team are doing their own thing. It would not be the same if Ubisoft did.
Experience points, skill trees to fill up, level gating, endless menial tasks and side quests, constantly scrounging for resources. Always having to upgrade your gear. A.KA. "The Ubisoft effect".
No thanks, don't ruin Rayman's legacy.
With the inclusion of the original game and a set of new mechanics that slot in naturally, Bit.Trip Rerunner is a stellar example of a remake.
Rayman legends must be in top 5 and it's for sure better platformer than limbo.
no SM3 ? no Sonic 2 ? missing like 20 other great games. weak list.
how can super mario bros 3 not be on the list? also I would not call Limbo a platformer, it is a puzzle game.
Laughable...........
Donkey Kong Country 2 deserves it. Super Mario World is good, but I'd put SMB3 or Yoshi's Island above it. And Yet It Moves is also incredible. It never seems to make these lists though. Also, why that Kirby?
