Oculus Dev Kit Sells Out One Week Before GDC Presentation

VRFocus - The original development kit for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) headset is now sold out. Users trying to pick up a dev kit from the official Oculus VR website will see a message stating: ‘UNITS ARE CURRENTLY OUT OF STOCK’. This suspension of sale had been warned by the company last month and occurs just under a week before it gives a Game Developers Conference (GDC) presentation about the hardware.

Those things look rediculous. Ill get sonys superior vr headset when It comes out.

Clover9043695d ago

Lol, NeoTribe is working hard to lose his last bubble.

Really? I like the way the Rift looks. Sony's head mounted displays so far have looked very goofy and uncomfortable to me.

Don't bother with either. VR is another gimmick that will die out shortly.

I'm guessing you'll be of the small % of people who's equilibrium will be thrown, resulting in dizzy motion sickness?

for the rest of us, this will be much much more defining then just a fad. the coming vr is the jump in tech everyone's been waiting for. this is the literal start of the coming holodeck.

even with this first step, imagine yourself say in a starship, out the middle of space, hovering over the planet your about to enter, and you can look all around you and see your hands, feet and cockpit.

if you can handle it, it'll light up the hairs on your body sending shockwaves of excitement through you :D

it's almost at a perfected state, and this will change be so huge it will change the way we consume media. imagine being in a movie, as a character that the actors play up to and interact with!!

your standing beside the HULK and can look up at him !! your riding in the cockpit of one of those huge 4 legged fighting machines in Dice's Battlefront, and you can look up, around and down upon the battle !! really you have no idea, the potential for this tech is near limitless..

you'll see ;)

No not at all. I just dont want to look like a flaming douche with one of the things strapped too my face.

starchild3695d ago

Believe me, you look like more of a douche worrying so much about how you look while playing games.

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7348d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt349d ago (Edited 349d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal349d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow349d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal349d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt348d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.

Although I never owned an oculus, I played the demo for this at an electronics store. Pretty impressive in an early goings of VR title.
