Im sure if I played System Shock 2 that would be up there too

morganfell3702d ago (Edited 3702d ago )

I did play System Shock 1 and 2 and I have to say for me personally it sits above anything else on the list.

System Shock 2 with the Rebirth, SHTUP, and Deepfrier graphics and sound mods make the game even better.

I still have not found a title that has struck me in the same manner as a few movies. For me, again this is a personal evaluation, Bladerunner sits at the top of my SF list. It addresses three basic human questions.

Where do I come from?
Where am I going?
How long do I have?

And on some levels it does look deep at another fourth question as well. What happens when I meet my god? For me the best SF titles are those that ask human questions and make me ponder our existence. On rare occasion they have come close, just not to the degree of Bladerunner, and in some respects the original Ghost in the Shell.

Even Super Metroid? I have never seen a top game of all time where SS is above SM

morganfell3702d ago (Edited 3702d ago )

Well those lists are opinions. And I have played Super Metroid many times. But if you look at my statement, you will see tow things that I clearly remark upon.

1 - It is a personal choice. I never said, as lists tend to do, this was a choice that applies to everyone.

2 - I look for games in making my personal list that provoke me to think about life, my life, about the state of humanity. It isn't just about entertainment for me on a fun level but also a mental as well as visceral plane.

I actually whole-heartedly agree with the picks in the Article. That's gotta be a first.

You know, I think it is...

silkylove3702d ago

I'm glad Super Metroid made it. Think they should've double-dipped and added Metroid Prime to the list as well. Also wouldn't mind a nod to Dead Space. It's sci-fi as much as survival horror. Some of the Final Fantasies could also qualify. Or some of the Wing Commander or Rogue Squadron games.

kythlyn3701d ago

I nearly mention a few Final Fantasy titles in my section of the list! Glad you commented.

Super Metroid was an epic game, specially for his 16-bit era....his atmosphere, his music, the gameplay. Its a pity that the last 2D Metroid was Metroid Fusion, I would love to see another one, or a Super Metroid remake for 3DS!!!

Deus Ex, Borderlands, Mass Effect, the first Dead Space (the rest blows)

I never got around to mass effect - I’m skeptical that it would hold up if I were to try it now

Furesis20h ago

I would say it does. The combat is a bit shit for todays standards but everything else is great.

Steam's highest-rated game is now less than a dollar in the Spring Sale

Jack writes: "Yet again browsing the latest offers in the Steam Spring Sale has led us to track down the very best. In terms of price to quality, we don’t think that it gets much better than this. Portal 2 is now less than a dollar, and if you haven’t got it already, now is the time to pick it up."

TheEroica36d ago

Portal deserves to be one of steams highest rated games... It's almost tetris levels of perfect game design.

TheEnigma31336d ago

It's a great game, but highly overrated. But for $1, it's an amazon deal.

Valve should bring their games to ps5

Kados35d ago (Edited 35d ago )

Gotta love Steam. Just got Portal 2 for .97 cents CAD. Should have been $1.29, selected the bundle with Portal 1 and 2, which gets a 25% discount, already have Portal 1, so it removes the cost of that, and still applies the full 25% bundle discount to Portal 2. 90% + 25% discount.

Friendlygamer35d ago

That's sweet, I've been thinking about building a modest pc to play some oldies
