Can Neil Druckmann Make The Last of Us Movie Not Suck?

It has been reported that a The Last of Us movie will be in production. The best news to come out of the announcement is that Naughty Dog’s own Neil Druckmann will pen the script.

it might surprise you guys writing and directing movies is a completely different ball game than writing and directing a game.

you can have the best script, does not mean very much if the director cant successfully take whats on page into live action.

gameplay fills in the gap for allot of weak story elements in video games.

tLoU game was already scripted like a movie, so he wouldn't need to do much work.

the only issue is that the story in the game is long with many people and turning points in the characterization, full parts would need to be cut short or completely off. the ideal situation is to make a TV mini series but I don't see that happening.

I would struggle to pick something to cut from the story, I feel that every character played a part in influencing the lives of Joel and Ellie and the story wouldn't be the same without them.

"tLoU game was already scripted like a movie, so he wouldn't need to do much work."

you cannot be this naive....

NewMonday3696d ago

can you tell me in what way exactly? or is that just a personal attack?

KendrickLamar3696d ago

I don't want them to make a movie based on this game.
Maybe an Uncharted movie, but please, heavens no, not a movie off of this masterpiece, I have an incredibly strong feeling it will be bad (but that's just my opinion, please respect it).

I loved TLOU, it made me cry and have strong emotions for video game characters, I feel like I won't have that same feeling with the movie.

MrSwankSinatra3696d ago

Honestly they should have just made a TV series based on TLoU, because you can't fit a game as long as the last of us into a 1 to 2 hour movie, just isn't happening.

Raf1k13696d ago

I agree but it's likely not going to be a copy paste job of the game story into movie. It'll end up being more like a re-telling of the story in live action.

mochachino3696d ago

Totally agree.

The best TV shows are infinitely better than most of the best movies IMO. There's just so much more room to develop the plot and characters.

CharlesSwann3696d ago

The game is very close to a movie already. Imagine it would be an easy make having a blue print like that.

JohnApocalypse3696d ago

Why not have the people who made it work on the movie? Frank Miller was heavily involved with the Sin City movie and people like that

ThichQuangDuck3696d ago

Ready Player One will be doing the same. It is really quite often the only way I want another medium adapted into film whether it be book, game or graphic novels. The original author has to be involved in moving it to another medium because they know the source material.

OrangePowerz3696d ago (Edited 3696d ago )

While the game is cinematic, there are some problems. A movie is only 2 hours long and games often have a lot more narative in them and not all is cutscenes. Games have more explanations and background and side stories because they are not limited to those 2 hours and can have extra story via audio logs or notes that can be read.

They are also great because people have their own experiences when they play them. I finished the levels in TLoU differently compared to my friends and in the end that makes it more personal.

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast77d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs74d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast74d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs73d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast73d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer77d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing6977d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs74d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing6974d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.

The Last Of Us Online Devs Celebrate Their Experience With The Canceled Game

The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.

Chocoburger121d ago

All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.

What a waste of time and money, what a shame.

seanpitt2377d ago

I can't wait for season 2 so they can kill Joel off in the first 2 episodes!! Then it will be just Abby and Ellies revenge plot!

Something is telling me that this won't happen though because it wouldn't make sense, oh wait

Linzoid121d ago

Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.

TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…

anast121d ago

This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
