The Verdict from IGN: "The Witch and the Hundred Knight has a concept that I dig: an action RPG layered high with the extra nuances the folks at NIS are known for. Sadly, very few of this puzzle’s many pieces are terribly well crafted, and they never truly fit together. There’s some fleeting enjoyment to be had in combat, but without any enjoyable characters, interesting skills, or effective RPG systems, the fun fades well before the credits roll."
SarahF says "Often after I’ve played a game, I’ll have a scout around online to find out more about the developers and see if there are any interesting facts I can throw in to spice up a review (not that they need it of course). The Witch and the Hundred Knight features a witch (surprise surprise) called Metallia."
Garrett from The Koalition writes:
Nippon Ichi Software has a solid grasp on SRPG. With The Witch and the Hundred Knight, the Disgaea developers attempt to create a complex SRPG. What works in Disgaea doesn’t necessarily translate well with The Witch and The Hundred Knight ; however, this hack n' slash has its share of addicting moments.
PlayDevil has posted an in depth review of the new action RPG game for PS3, "The Witch and the Hundred Knight" developed by the famous Japanese dev Nippon Ichi!
More:
"You take control of the Hundred Knight, a creature summoned from the nether by the swamp witch Metallia. The reclusive witch has never left her swamp, but now desires to see the world outside. Rather than going on vacation, however, Metallia has commandeered the Hundred Knight’s services to spread her swamp throughout the land. You, as the legendary but tiny warrior, are the only one capable of destroying the hidden pillars that prevent the swamp’s spread"
5.8 from IGN is a 8.5 for me. Day one!
I am planning to get this anyway. IGN and Gamespot reviews can't be trusted, so they don't matter to me.
I haven't played it yet but NISA games usually get low scores but I still love 'em which is why I got mine preordered.
well it is what it is
This game isn't for everyone...well literally ALL games are not for everyone but this one is for a small cult following and I feel I am one of them. I may or may not like it, but I will still give this game a try with an open mind. Also, because if you're a Disgaea fan it doesn't mean you'll find this game enjoyable. It's after all an entirely different game.
I play the Hyperdimension Neptunia games and they score low on mainstream critics like GameSpot, IGN. The games are terrible, but they have a charm that makes them enjoyable for some of us. Same goes for the Atelier Arland and Dusk series.
There is a review that scored this a 7.8 which is here
