Gamer culture has been more progressive about the depiction of LGBT chracters

Lucien Soulban has started an interesting discussion when he stated that gamers were not ready for an LGBT protagonist. He may have underestimates how progressive gaming culture has been regarding the depiction of LGBT characters. That statement may appear out of place until a gamer looks back at how progressive video games have been regarding the portrayal of LGBT characters.

Lucien Soulban was wrong that gamers are not ready for a gay hero. Given how progressive our culture has been compare to Hollywood, I see no problem introducing a gay video game hero.

As long as it's handled well then I welcome it. I don't want gay characters just for the sake of having gay characters. If it makes sense for the game, and if it benefits the story, or there's something to add to the game instead of just saying "yeah this is Jack and he's gay".

Although I couldn't really see a situation where a gay relationship could further a plot?

Then again, I'm no writer but I do think it's still too early.

Well, I am not sure it necessarily needs to further the plot. It should simply be treated as an option for what would otherwise just be they typical man and woman sort of relationship in games that choose to go that route.
It just needs to be normalized at this point. Not pushed away by those who don't wish to see it, nor thrown in the faces of all in the name of "progress".
Treat it no different than you would your typical relationship and only touch on the differences if and when it makes sense in context of the story. Simple enough, really.
