New 'The Division' info: Gameplay hours, next-gen city, co-op, military and more

It's been about a month since we last heard more information on what The Division will be bringing to the Xbox One and PS4 when it hits later this year, but with new info released by Ubisoft Massive, we've got a load of new details to drop.

The development team talked about how much military involvement they have had and did mention the fact that they had team members go through actual survival training.

This game seems so incredible, both visually and in gameplay. With the nature of the game being a post-apocalyptic world, where you have to fend for yourselves and find supplies and weaponry, does that mean that all houses and buildings can be entered by the player? Also, is there an economy in the game? Could I set up a shop and sell all of the items I found?

What I am picturing is seeing a house or building across a long expanse of land and looking around, wondering if I'm the only one there and if it is safe to try to go into that house and find supplies. Or, am I going to be in there and be ambushed or see someone else doing the same thing? It sets up a awesome scenario, which leaves the player able to explore every building, try to find anything they're looking for and also use it as a base or shelter. Also, to explore vast expanses of landscape, to maybe find a friend or ten to go along with you. A game I've been dreaming about since I started gaming, as a child, back in the mid-to-late 70s.

It just sounds so awesome, I can't wait to play it.

This is by far my most anticipated next-gen (multi-platform) game.

mochachino3704d ago

Multiplatform games tend to be the best games in a gen IMO. Provided the multiplats are equal, exclusives are good for deciding what platform to purchase but mutliplats offer the most great experiences.

And before people yell PC, a lot of multiplats are console exclusive like Red Dead or long-timed exclusive like GTA5 so you'd need console as well anyways.

Joe9133703d ago (Edited 3703d ago )

@mochachino the best game of last year and possibly of last gen was TLOU story wise as well as visually and that was not a multiplatform my friends and I play very few multiplatforms cause to me they do not use the power of the ps3 like exclusive Sony games to me imo nothing looks as good as TLOU, Uncharted 2, 3, or GOW3 not being a fanboy but not very many multiplats can stand against those games but some can Red Dead,BAC, GTA5

OT: Can not wait to play this with friends that E3 demo had me so hyped the second screen features sound cool with ppl being able to join the game as a drone using a tablet man can't wait to explore this world seems like last gen was the gen of the fps this is going to be the gen of the open worlds lol.

Shakengandulf3704d ago

Yeah.. That summed up my thoughts exactly.
Actually for anyone thats played "The last of us".. Picture ya self going into one of those houses only to be met with a real player, defending himself and loot, deciding to back off or to press on and hope it pays off.
This game is going to be incredible.

Careful, my friend. You don't want to set yourself up for disappointment if the game doesn't meet your expectations. Many people over-hype their anticipated games and are left feeling short-changed if the game didn't meet their every vision.

With that said, I also am looking forward to this game, Watch Dogs, and Destiny. It is very hard to keep the excitement contained :)

theXtReMe13703d ago

I agree. My expectations aren't skyhigh, I was just kind of venting my wishes for the game. Have they said if all buildings or most of them are going to be enterable? I would imagine that a game like this, that has you scavenging for supplies, would allow players to enter most buildings, if not through the front door then finding a way in either through force or a window or something.

At least that's my hope for this game. I just see so many opportunities within the description they have given us, for this title. Mine is just one of many that I hope happen throughout the course of the game. If even only that one thing happens, I would be a happy camper and be playing the game for hundreds, if not thousands, of hours. Because that one mechanic would set millions of gamers up for endless possibilities and so many brilliant encounters with either NPC's or other human beings, scavenging for the same supplies. Just amazing if they can pull something like that off.

Just talking about it is making me want this game more and more. It is truly becoming my most wanted title of this or next year, whenever it releases.

Check out this link for an interview with the developers:

http://www.gamefreaks.co.nz...

"Will it be possible to enter buildings?

Yes, and it will play a major role in the game. As you have seen in the demo for example, agents of The Division enter a police station, where they find gear. In this open-world game, we want to give the player as much opportunity as possible to explore and live their own adventure. In this brand, we are creating a whole new universe in an original setting that will be great fun to discover."

He says it plays a 'major role' in the game so that seems to me that we'll be able to enter quite a few buildings and really explore the world. I wouldn't think we'd be able to go into every building though. Would be nice if we could though.

This is one of those games that you can show your friends, and be like this is why you need next-gen. Friend goes buys system and the division.

I cant wait to see what they show at E3 in a few months.

nastynapkin3704d ago

I wounder if there's a jump button.. I hope not... jumping is stupid in most shooters.. but not halo

URtheWalrus3704d ago

Sorry this is off subject, but I just thought it was funny that you say jumping is stupid and have a profile pic of LeBron! Lol

dcj05243704d ago

Not if they allow mobility. Like jumping on cars, over ledges, onto buildings.

shmeedy246853704d ago

I think this game will be a massive contender for Game of the year either this year or next year, depending when it's released. It looks stunning and I'm really looking forward to this game, Ubisoft have a great track record with games!

KingDadXVI3704d ago

I am looking forward to this game. Hopefully they will take the time they need to polish the game.

@nastynapkin I don't know if it is jumping that is stupid it is more to do with how it looks in a third person shooter. Because the animation is always the same it ends up looking unnatural. I do agree that jumping in Halo SP and MP is a pretty important mechanic in that game.

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

shinoff2183377d ago

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

-Foxtrot376d ago

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno376d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic376d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman376d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon376d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
