Yakuza Ishin's PS4 Release Wasn't Initially Planned

Yakuza Ishin seems to be one of the most popular PS4 games in Japan at the moment, but during the launch countdown event aired yesterday night Producer Masayoshi Yokoyama mentioned something fairly interesting.

I read that as "PS4 Western Release Wasn't initially planned" and I got excited for a second.

Abriael3708d ago

I'm not sure how you managed to read that into it ^_^;

NewMonday3708d ago

I will hate Sony if they don't push SEGA to publish this game in the west.

Yui_Suzumiya3708d ago

That's what I also saw.. shucks!

FamilyGuy3708d ago

It'll come, it just might take some time.

It's nice to see with this game, an even Injustice: Gods Among Us at the U.S. launch, that making upgraded ports really is a fast process when it comes to PS4 games. It only takes a couple months and we get a higher quality version. Just further proof of the ridiculous low dev/optimization time needed for PS4 games.

We're going to see a lot of PC games come to PS4 because of this too, there's already a lot coming in fact.

RPG_Lover3708d ago

I am nervous.

Does not paint a good picture. I just hope this game sold. I want more.

FamilyGuy3708d ago

Ever heard of pre-orders?

I know you're just trolling but we'll see how well it sold in Japan by next week, unless Sony decides to make an early announcement about it.

RPG_Lover3708d ago

I own a PS4. Not everything is trolling if you don't agree with it dude. http://www.playstationlifes...

Is this sony site trolling?

come on grow up.

Goro3708d ago

I'm hoping a western release is planned.

CharlesSwann3708d ago

Same type of game, and I mean very similar, came out during PS3 launch and it never got localized. Hopefully the better sales will make it happen this time.

Aleithian3708d ago

So can we buy this game on the Japanese PSN Store? Sure, it would be in Japanese, but for those of us who speak/are learning Japanese, could we get this? 'Cause...seems that so long as we can access the store, we should be able to use a Western credit card or even paypal to get this.

How Ghost of Tsushima's Success Could Pave the Way for Yakuza Ishin & Kenzan in the West

Western releases of Yakuza Ishin and Kenzan could finally be happening thanks to the overwhelming success of Ghost of Tsushima.

"Sato: Even long before Ghost of Tsushima, I did want to release “samurai” games like Kenzan and Ishin in the West. Unfortunately, after Yakuza 0, we were very busy with remastering the numbering Yakuza titles for the PS4, so we missed the opportunity to work on some of these other games."

The remasters strike again. Easy cash is like a brick wall to new releases.

veicht1116d ago (Edited 1116d ago )

I don't know that said logic is applicable here... Kenzan and Ishin would not be "new releases" in a meaningful way imo. They released in 2008 and 2014 respectively. Yeah, they never released in the west, but they would effectively be remasters themselves. Additionally, while remastering the numbered games instead of remastering ishin and kenzan, they put out yakuza 6, fist of the north star, judgement, and yakuza like a dragon (all new).

Tankbusta401117d ago

Ishin was simply amazing...I played it through using Salty Yen's videos

boing11117d ago (Edited 1117d ago )

I don't think any of the mentioned games have such mainstream appeal like GoT. GoT worked, because it was made by a western developer.

2moda5gamer1117d ago

Perhaps not, but GoT as a new IP killed it - and bringing that era of Japan to the west in an already successful franchise should work now. Yakuza has a drastically larger following compared to 8 years ago when these games originally released.
There's gonna be a lot of fans who wanna get into this spin on the combat and minigames.

For some reason, Sega doesn't think games about ancient Japan would sell in America.

TheColbertinator1506d ago

Yakuza Black Panther and Ishin were in my wishlist for a long time. Sega should have had more faith in those games

Terry_B1506d ago

Do the writers from thegamer.com know..anything at all?

no plans for these two games, yakuza destroyed with turn based combat. WTF? too much success for Yakuza?

PhoenixUp1690d ago

Hate when Japanese series treats western audiences like second class citizens

King_Noctis1690d ago

Why not? Afraid those games might sell more than they do in Japan?
